  • it should be fine i've been farther from it and had it work, I don't know why but it's been giving me a bit of trouble the past couple hours
Cool, I'm glad you're continuing with it on the Advance gen. What you said weeks ago was right, Emerald is just too awesome.
It'll be good, to have them both together, I suppose.
So are you ditching whatever you needed the FR OWs (and suspectedly the FR tiles) for?
It'd seem the Fire Red graphics in general are growing on you, hahaha :) I totally understand why you'd dislike the multiple grass tiles, though. That's why most people just use the RSE one, in FR hacks.
Anyway, I'm all intrigued to see your secret project thing D:
(I have serious problems with being patient. Well, no, but I still want to see it).
Can I ask if this change of mind was sudden, or..?
Yeah, sure. I'll PM you the link.
(it took a good two hours to make). There are some missing, as Emerald has more OWs than FR. I mean, NPC wise, there's 3, 4, maybe more, left over from the original Emerald OWs. I've also inserted walking sprites for the Mother, as FR didn't have them.
    Yeah, I'll PM.
Oh, right. Well, I for one would appreciate running shoes. (go for it, please :D)
On a randomly raised topic, will you be making use of Dive at all? I know there's no real need, but it could create some interesting map twists, or something.
I gotta say, those tiles are much better. The ones before were good, but.. yeah, they're really nice.
Also, does your Mom give you the Pokenav and Running Shoes in that screen, yes? (Waiting til after Brock was beaten was really frustrating, IMO).
Ah, you're right. I just used a tool I had to expand it (literally "drag>expand"), so I guess that's the default (as is what most other people assume is the true free space byte, as you know).
Thanks for the Hex Editor reference, btw. Search function world properly for me, plus I found a few other useful tools.
Anyway, how's restarting going? Have you caught up to where you'd previously been, or are you taking it easy?
Right, I'm going to look that up then, thanks :)
I found something interesting... You're aware I've expanded my Infinity ROM, yes? Well, when I opened it in the hex editor, struggling to find another way to edit the palettes, I scrolled to the middle, ie. the end of the original Emerald memory space. Sure enough, there were 00s followed by FFs- but the space after that (ie. the other half of the ROM, nothing but free space) comprised entirely of 00s. I'm not totally sure what that could mean..?
Ugh, I feel bad I said all that :S I really wasn't having a go at you, sorry. And I didn't think you were challenging my music knowledge, either, I just meant that generally.
Oh, that's good, then. But, (last time I'll ever mention FL, I swear:D) you don't need a keyboard for it- in fact, it could be easier without one. But FL does support MIDI keyboards, so... I dunno. If you ever need it as a last resort, then I stick to my word that it's handy. Even then, it's great for regular music making.
    NOW, done :D
Random, but what hex editor do you use? I wanted to edit the palettes for the battle backgrounds in Infinty, and for the life of me Transhexion's search function never finds the string of hex (and yes, I'd reversed the bytes correctely and whatnot). I would use hex workshop but my trial expired, and.. Well, I can't buy it. Do you know of any other good ones? I know, new Battle backgrounds aren't necessary but I'll need to palette edit via Hex eventually, so it's best I find one now.
I doubt that too, but the tutorial isn't necessarily there so any hacker can make Midi's, in my opinion. More to show people how it's done with FL Studio. It's alot easier to make MP3s with FL than it is to make Midi's. I learned how to do it by opening another midi and using the instruments from that, but even then changing the instrument is a matter of clicking a drop down box. So it's relatively easy to use, although of COURSE you'd need musical knowledge. Really, I don't think the tutorial was there as a "look, orginl music!!1! Tut here, make it urself!!1!". I wouldn't think it'd interest much people without basic musical knowledge, anyway.
Edit: And, just for the record, I've played piano for 9, maybe 10 years, and I've been making music (known as NRG/Donk style) for 3. I couldn't give you a definition of the word "key"- I mean, sure I understand keys (C Major -> relative minor -> A Minor, etc), but defining it?
I'm not having a go at you or anything, but you shouldn't rule someone out if they can't get too technical about something. :P
Well, where are you getting that from? Of course you can compose your own, that'd defeat the purpose of the program. You still input every note, select every instrument.. Whether or not you remix existing songs is entirely up to you, not the program.
But it probably just works on Windows. I have no knowledge of Macs at all, so I couldn't say positively.
Oh, right. That's cool, too. (sorry, could swear I replied to this, before you edited).
Anyway, I noticed you saying GarageBand was troublesome. I know someone already recommended FL Studio to you (as did I, in the past), but I'm backing it up. If you can use that on a Mac, definately do it. It's great for composing Midis, much easier to use than AnvilStudio. There's a tutorial here (I've been using FL for a good 2 years, so it wasn't much use to me, but if you haven't seen/used FL before then I thoroughly recommend it).
Anyway, I'm thinking of composing my own music for Infinity. I think I'm the musician for Pokemon Sienna (as of yesterday) and it's cool, I managed to Pokemonify one of Mozart's..Tunes? Pieces, it's pretty cool, classical music seems to work for Pokemon. The layout of a generic Pokemon song is pretty basic, too, so.. It's a matter of finding a decent melody, I guess, and know how to put it together.
If you want help on that front, let me know. I love music, hehe.
Yeah, that's what I meant. (I wasn't hinting that I wanted them, there, just so you know :D, just stating how bothersome it'd be overall). But thanks.
I'll share some HGSS tiles with you when I get round to them (I've only some Johto and Sinnoh ones done for Infinity, haven't gotten round to any of Kanto's yet).
By the way, for the music, are you going to be making any songs from scratch, or will you just change the keys of Fire Red tracks? (kind of irrelevant to anything, but I remember you saying you were musical).
It has to be said- you rock.
I restarted Infinity today, and, being as lazy as I am, I imported everything maps, palettes, blocks and tilesets. And, since that change to the ini... No corruption! This is really great. I'd actually started remembering where the beeps were appearing, but now I don't have to worry about it. Thanks :)
Lol, we had the same idea (regarding the Fire Red Kanto Pokemon sprites). That's what I'd planned for Infinity, but it'll take ages :/ I'm pretty much leaving the sprites for now, too, but I've already expanded the Rom, just so I don't goof up on the free space thing.
Kinda thought that myself XD. 'Twas fine while it lasted! :D
but anyway, while I did hear that off of Bulbapedia, I think there could be some truth to it (only my opinion, though, so don't eat me or anything). For one, there is the FRLG soundtrack. Then, there's the FRLG Gym Badges, as well as the Hoenn Gym badges, (can be found in unLZ). There's the item sprites in the bag, the whole Multiplayer/Union Room thing (as you mentioned), the same Trainer Tower system, etc. While it did leave plenty of FR stuff out, there's also a lot there. There's no real reason to have inserted the entire FRLG soundtrack- surely they wouldn't have even contemplated including Kanto, due to it's availability in FRLG. And, to go back earlier in our conversation, maps can easily be saved and inserted with A-Map, and with Nintendo's (what I imagine would be a) Super-A-Map, it'd take a matter of minutes to place all of those maps and scripts in. However, I know that the only reason for them to make 3rd Sisters like Platinum and Emerald is money, but I don't think they'd want to just copy-paste from Ruby, so even then they could have easily remapped the areas. Although, one (of plenty) contradictions is that Emerald has only RSE trainer sprites, while FRLG has its own, plus the RS trainer sprites. Also, there's the Kanto Pokemon sprites, as you said. I don't really know ^^'
Anyway, how's Saga going? Have you made much progress since y/our [/kinda] discovery? (I say "kinda" because you actually solved it... But I had a good inkling with the whole repointing thing, I guess :P) BUT saying that still makes me feel like a douc#e, so.. Yeah. But anyway, Saga?
    :D
    Well, a sound problem.....
    I also got this bugs.
When you write any new tileset, map... with A-Map, the default freespace will begin from offset ..... (I don't remember, it seems 600000) and this is the music area.
You can open ini file and change search function from other offsets...
