  • It's only countries on the Europe continent that get it on the 23rd. Australia is on the 18th like Japan and the US.
Since you changed the region to one that releases on the 18th, I guess that means you get to play it as soon as that date hits.
The issue is that the games are also up for pre-load which can then be played as soon as the release date hits, which still remains the 23rd for Europe.
XY ratings have been suggesting that the Kalos saga has been a flop in Japan, but I think SM will definitely be a flop for Western audiences since many Western fans don't like huge changes, plus this series I feel is an excuse to make Pokemon appeal to Japanese kids again because the writers have likely seen the terrible ratings for XY and said "right, we need to get the target audience watching again so we must copy our biggest rival Yo-Kai Watch and make Ash into a Keita/Nate clone, and that is having him in a Trainers School".
It's way too drastic of a change, especially with Alola being so different from other regions with the "no Gyms" concept. I could see the writers make Ash get older so he can participate in Island Trials, because a school setting is making me believe Pokemon is now trying to change up its image into a Yo-Kai Watch ripoff, and as I know the main character of Yo-Kai Watch (Keita/Nate) is a school student.

I do agree the SM series would have been better off with a new protagonist entirely if they were going to change the formula up so much. It's definitely going to suffer from the new school theme having bad execution, and Ash becoming a stupid noob again.
I might consider watching one episode of SM, but if the reviews don't agree with me or mention Ash becoming a complete noob again, I will likely avoid it. The fact he's going to school heightens the likelihood of him becoming stupid again. Unova's main example of his stupidity was the Elesa Gym Battle where he didn't have a backup plan after his Palpitoad got destroyed.

Apparently an NPC in the SM Demo says trainers have to be 11 to participate in Island Trials and the writers I'm assuming wanted to rewrite the purpose of the Trial Captains (Mallow, Kiawe, Lana and Sophocles) into being students just because they don't want to make Ash older just to do a certain quest.
I hated a lot of the recent XYZ episodes. Ash losing the league and letting go of two of his best Kalos Pokemon is clearly giving me the image of extreme bias from the writers, especially since I'm overly horrified of a potential complete reset for Ash in the Alola saga a.k.a. being a noob like in Unova.
