I have no problems using a touchpad. In fact when I do have a mouse attached I forget it even exists and neglect it. I actually get really high scores on the mini-games. Although there are some other things I have issues with, like Bullet Hell genre games. But that's another matter.

If by massive shortcut you mean plumetting a thousand feet onto a rail that takes you way to the end of the level then yes. Also Chao are epic as can be. I love the little Hero chao when they say Hi to Sonic. So cute~ My greatest dream was to get an army of Chaos Chao sadly I procrastinate too...

Well on one of the cannons there's another entrance area on the south side of it. It's the cannon that uh... shoots you over to the left putting you into a loop.
