The writers can ultimately decide what happens, and they're choosing to go along this path due to money (most likely). Although if the route of stand alone seasons ends up earning more money, than it's likely that the writers can do a time skip to a period where Ash is an adult, and allow such a romance to form.

Hey Nola! We're matched up for the PCL finals so it'd be a good idea to schedule us a match! I've recently started a new job so my schedule is kinda wobbly. I'm unsure of what I will be working in the coming week but I can definitely do nights(after 10 PM Central). Just let me know what works for you and we'll get something worked out :)
