Okay I asked my boyfriend and got this:

Tide involves the changes how water behaves due in the polar magnetism effects from the earth and moon as the moon gets close to a certain area on earth lol its noticed as the rising and falling of water depth lol....there is a website that tells the history of Alabama: why we are called the crimson tide, how the million dollar band got its name, etc lol

I personally have never understood that either. But then you have Auburn tigers, but war eagle and it's like "wtf alabama football" haha. I mean, no one ever says "Alabama elephants" and they just say Crimson Tide so maybe a herd of elephants is called a tid-- no a herd of elephants is a herd of elephants...maybe I have to do some homework. lol
