The gold usually goes to other corporations and stuff, they are "just pawns in the chessboard" =P And after throwing mercury on the ground to identify the gold, they have to vaporize the mercury present in the gold. To do that, they heat up the pieces of silver(when gold is attacked by mercury, it transforms into silver), so the mercury is released in form of gas. The dudes breath that gas and bam mercury infection.
