I think Spark is supposed to be a ramming electrical attack... that explains why it's physical. If you look at the game animation for it, it looks like a ram.

They are just the first in the evolution set. Their evolutions may be... "nastier", as you say.

Well... Tehcnicly you just supplied data that could support an answer, lol. Obviously, then, physical/special moves are not based on weather they are contact attacks or not. Still, they might classify special attacks as "Long Range" and physical attacks as "Close Range"?

I'm curious as to what they'll do with Earthquake and Rockslide. Since they are not "Direct" attacks, will they stay physical, or will they turn special? Turning them special would really change things... probably for the worse.

Too bad they didn't continue that tradition with Lugea and Ho-oh (I guess those count as legendary birds) .

No, it doesn't. But, it is enough difference to make me think that they wanted both Metagross and Dragonite to be the new pokemon in this place. But thats just my oppinion, if you think that Metagross isn't part of this group, then thats okay.

Its interesting, at first I'd considered Beldum to be the "legendairy like" (for lack of a better term) pokemon instead of Salamence. It seems that they broke the chain in Ruby/Sapphire anyway: RBY: Dratini lvl 30 -> Dragonair lvl 55 -> Dragonite GSC: Larvitar lvl 30 -> Pupitar lvl 55 ->...

I think it would be really cool if they made some of the pre-evolutions unobtanable in Di/Pe. Sneasel for example: I think it would make things more interesting if they made it so you had to trade a Sneasel from LG in order to get its evolution. Or you'd have to trade over a Mr. Mime in order...

Cloning posibilities really ruin this and the next generation of games... I was so happy when I found out that the cloning trick from GSC didn't work in Ru/Sa, but it seems they've found a way around it. Anyway, to keep on topic: I haven't come across any shiny pokemon lately. I'm not...
