Gunk Shot is a huge boon to Greninja's move pool simply because in X/Y, Greninja didn't do well against Fairies like Gardevoir, Sylveon and Azumarill. With Gunk Shot becoming pretty much a standard move, Greninja can bypass them easily now. In X/Y, Hydro Pump was the best Greninja could do against them and pretty much every Fairy was able to shrug it off. Calcs:

Edit: Greninja also doesn't use Hydro Pump much nowadays because Low Kick is a more accurate option against Tyranitar and Heatran. Low Kick KOs Tyranitar and does similar damage to Hydro Pump vs. Heatran:

Why would you use Ice Beam on Chansey? It's incredibly wimpy coming off of 35 Special Attack, even on super effective targets:
