Well they don't show Hinata much in combat, buy seeing as how the very creator of Naruto think she would make a better hero than Sakura must mean he sees her a braver, smarter, and stronger character...
Edit: never mind the only reason he prefers hinata is because she is an easier character to work with than Sakura...

Sakura is my least favorite out of the trio even though sasuke has done horrible things...but she has done some good things but then she messes things up >-<...

Well Hinata is braver when you think about it, she sacrificed herself for Naruto during the pain arc. I already told you why I like her, plus she isn't mean to naruto or plays with his feelings...but I'm not sure how ahead the anime is so maybe you don't know what I'm talking about...
