Gate I: Davepetasprite^2 & Klippy vs The Manticore
The Ambassador and the Joker stepped backward as the first gate began to open. They were cut off from their allies by the magical barriers that divided the arena. If they couldn't defeat this beast together, they would perish together.
The roaring from beyond the iron bars ceased, and heavy footfalls began. Soon a strange feline emerged from the darkness, glaring at the two combatants that would soon become its prey. It was larger than both Faeries combined by far. It had the body and head of a lion, the tail of a scorpion and the wings of a bat. It was a manticore of legend, and its strength was devastating.
The Ambassador held tight to her two daggers, and the Joker raised his bow and aimed it at the beast.
Gate II: Ice Goddess & Golgari vs The Basilisk
Lilith glared at the Basilisk, returning the stare of the creature that had become infamous for it. How poetic that she'd be fighting this serpent in order to gain entry to this new sanctuary. It reminded her of Eden.
She raised her hand to the sky and called down the fury of the heavens. Lightning ripped through the air and struck the Basilisk's impenetrable hide. Despite whatever she may have become, she was still the first daughter of the world. Both heaven and hell would bow to her, and the realms between would belong to her. This creature was not going to interfere with that.
Beside her, the Ace was holding a hand to his heart, before following Lilith's lightning with a blast of frigid air. The two combatants alternated between spells of all varieties, knowing very well that to approach the serpent would be suicide. Every so often they managed to avoid one of the Basilisk's blows, but the creature still managed to hit them both numerous times. Its venomous being left them both in a compromised state.
Lilith growled. This mortal frame wasn't going to hold up against this beast for much longer. And as she realized that they didn't seem to be coming much closer to taking the serpent down, she understood what came next.
This may have been her end for the second time in this conflict against Haven, but she would be back.
Gate III: Milotic & JohnnyMustang vs The Calydonian Boar
The great swine charged, slashing at the Necromancer with its deadly fangs. The Calydonian Boar was the weakest of the monsters when it came to offense, but its danger came in its endurance. It may not have been able to overpower its enemies, but it could outlast them.
The Necromancer held tight to his staff and cast a curse on the beast, dealing residual damage to it. What better way to fight a creature with such endurance than to weaken it with enduring effects?
The Wraith, one the other hand, lashed out at the beast with his sword. The blade was naught much more than a toothpick to the swine's great hide, however, and did little to help the Undead duo. Still, the Wraith slashed at it again before deciding to change tact by attempting to drain the heat from the boar's warm body, before shooting it full of electricity.
The Necromancer added to this charge with his own Tesla spell, before greeting the legendary monster with the Cold Touch of Death.
Static and cold weren't going to save them, however. The boar swiped at them with its tusks, mercilessly targeting the Necromancer before loosing a high-pitched squeal that sent both combatants reeling. With neither of their attacks doing much of anything to the beast, and the relentless assault of those weathered tusks, the Necromancer soon found himself bleeding out in the dirt.
He collapsed, looking at the arena surrounding him as the life drained from his eyes. He saw his unlikely beloved slashing at the great Manticore, but the beast was simply too strong. It grabbed her, took her into the air and simply devoured her. She and her comrade never stood a chance. His final sight, however, was that of his old companion, Baldassare. The man had served him, and now had the gall to trap him in this pitiful game of death! He was the one with the power over the forces of mortality, not that vile creature of Undeath that stood grinning at him with those inhuman fangs!
He was going to have his revenge, even if he failed to do so in this life. He was the greatest Necromancer in the world, after all.
Battle I: Syndrome vs JaDe.X105
Kharis bared her fangs, staring down her prey. The Lamp Maker had no hope. Contrary to popular belief, vampires like Kharis do not fear the light, and when light was the only weapon her opponent held, there was nothing to fear at all.
Kharis lashed out, sticking to a pattern of two close-range attacks before using her magic to drain the life force from the man, bolstering her own energies. He attempted to counter by blinding her with a magic lantern, and then harming her with his Dangerous Light, but that proved even less effective than his physical attacks. Seemingly realizing this, he eventually gave into dealing a constant barrage of blows with his sword, but he could still barely damage his opponent.
It wasn't long before he fell to the power of the vampire.
Battle II: Ullion vs Nagi
A sad twist of fate left the Pawn practically helpless against the Banshee. If he had still been Lucifer, perhaps he would have made short work of his former underling, but now? He could barely touch the ethereal being.
But her Banshee Scream brought the feeling of death down upon the Pawn. She dealt heavy blows left and right, and soon left her foe's corpse mutilated on the ground, soaking in his own blood.
After the Fates had completed their duties, the two survivors walked away from the scarred battlefield as the creatures were herded back to their cages. Kharis and the Banshee had done it. The lovers had managed to make it out of the arena alive, and all of their enemies had been slain, but so had their allies.
Baldassare gave the two a polite smile as they approached. "It seems you're the best that Haven had to offer. Welcome to Arxium. I'm sure the queen would love to see you now."
Davepetasprite^2 is dead. She was the Ambassador.
Klippy is dead. He was the Joker.
Ice Goddess is dead. He was the Phantom Alpha and Lilith.
Golgari is dead. He was the Ace.
Milotic is dead. She was the Necromancer.
JohnnyMustang is dead. He was the Wraith.
Ullion is dead. He was a Pawn.
JaDe.X105 is dead. He was the Lamp Maker.
The Undead have won! The Lovers Syndrome & Nagi have won!
