Kanto...

Spoiler:

As in many other regions, pokémon training is at it's climax. Almost every kid wants to travel the region and build a pokémon team at some point in their life. Since studies have shown that people learn so much from this journey that they become more able and versed citizens and human beings, parents are encouraged to let their kids go as soon as they turn 10. One pokémon professor from each region is trusted with the mission to hand out the mandatory pokédex and starter pokémon to the new trainers. In Kanto, that professor is Oak from Pallet Town.

The problem with this inflation in young trainers is that many never reach the highest goal, which is to compete in the Pokémon League at Indigo Plateau. The one who wins there is crowned the Pokémon Master of the year. Many of these 10 year olds take years to finish their journey and beat all 8 gym leaders of Kanto. Only then do they gain entrance to the League competition. Many give up on the way.

To cure this, the gym leaders of Kanto have devised a new competition, together with professor Oak. It's called Master Quest and it doesn't involve rookie trainers... Instead, they call for experienced trainers from around the world to come to Kanto and catch Kanto pokémon and try to beat all the 8 gym leaders as fast as they can. The point is to encourage rookie trainers to fight harder! The contestants will get lots of prize money, even if they don't win... so it's worth sending in an application!

The rules are that they have to have at least some badges from either Hoenn, Sinnoh or Unova, but they cannot have become a Pokémon Master there yet. They have to bring only 2 pokémon from their home region to Kanto. The rest of the arsenal of pokémon that they want to use against the gym leaders and in the Indigo League, they have to capture and raise from scratch in Kanto.

Are you stubborn enough to win?

images

Complications are, however, difficult to avoid... There are people who think that this extensive pokémon training means exploiting the poor pokémon by taking their freedom away and forcing them to fight. These people call themselves Team Shiro, or the Shironians and to get a message through to the general crowd, they will try to thwart the progress of the Master Quest contestants when these kids least expect it. They seem to have double moral standards, because they are using pokémon of their own to battle trainers now and then, trying to steal or "set free" the trainers' pokémon.

You should be on the lookout for the Shironians, as they will surely show themselves sooner or later. And not necessarily in a friendly way. Chances are, there is more to this competition than what meets the eye...

Rules...

- Normal PC/RP rules applies here.

- Discuss things Out Of Character (OOC) this thread, post In Character (IC) in the main thread when it comes up.

- Use correct spelling and grammar (as good as you can) in your posts.

- I am the Game Master (GM) and I will play many characters that I won't make Sign Ups (SUs) for. Professor Oak, for example, as well as one of his assistants who is determined to find out more about Team Shiro...

- Post a SU in this thread if you want to play, and wait for me to accept you. Reservations last for 24 hours.

- This will definitely not be a "chaptered" RP :3 I'm going to assume that you know the roads and cities in Kanto (if not, there are maps). If anything is different from normal, I will tell you when anybody gets there. Make posts where you're traveling and interacting as in any RP.

- Professor Oak recommends that you engage the gyms in the usual order, although it's not written in stone. This is mainly because the later gyms have stronger leaders.

- If you want to capture a specific wild Kanto pokémon, I can tell you where it can be found. You can also ask me to post a list of available pokémon in your current area. Mostly I will let you find the wild pokémon that were there in the 1st and 2nd gen games. Which means Johto pokémon as well ;)

- Rating is T because this turned out to be darker than I first planned xD

- Be PATIENT. I won't have time to be online every day, but I'll try to be. Patience is just as important as activity. The line is fine~

- If you want to catch a new pokémon, end your post with the pokéball shaking or something like that. I will decide if the capture is successful or not, depending on how good your post and the battle or events that led up to the capture was.

- - - - - - -

About 'em levels...

There will be no real levels. Wild pokémon are considered to be around level 15, which will manifest itself by it knowing all the moves it should know at level 15. It can then learn all other moves it should learn by leveling up, by you writing about it "suddenly" learning a new move in battle or when training with you. But these moves can ONLY BE LEARNED IN ORDER. And not too often... I will raise a finger at you if you make your pokémon grow too quickly.

HM/Tutor/Egg moves can also be learned, but then you will have to train your pokémon. That means that you have to either write about finding a "tutor" (an NPC) that teaches your pokémon that move, or you have to write about training with your pokémon until they have learned it. These moves takes much longer time to learn than leveling-up-moves.

TMs are discs that hold energy that pokémon can absorb on touch when the TM is activated. The energy allows them to learn a new move. TMs will be found now and then on your journey... I will let you know when.

Let me refer to the pokémon anime for examples. Pikachu's Iron tail and Buizel's Ice Punch were Tutor moves and Ash had to train with them for them to learn the moves properly. On the contrary, Pikachu's Electro Ball just popped into its arsenal one day in Unova, since it's a leveling up move in the 5th gen.

When you feel like you want one of your pokémon to evolve... ask me first.

Name: Will Decker

Gender: Male

Age: 11

Region: Sinnoh

Appearance: Will is around 5'3" and is pretty skinny. He has short dirty blonde hair and green eyes. He wears a plain white T-shirt and jeans. He is pretty strong and has developing muscles. He carries around a small gray backpack and wears a belt for attaching pokeballs to. He also has a distinct scar going from under his eye to the side of his ear.

History: Will grew up in an extremely rich family. His family was snobby and greedy. However, Will was not like this and was generous and kind. When he was walking with his family, occasionally he would see beggars. Will would sneak them a big peice of bread that he stole from his private chef. His parents were against going on journeys, even though they let his older brother Derek go on one. Will insisted that he would go on one. Finally on his ninth birthday he received an Aipom. Aipom was Wills best freind and sometimes Will would go to the forest to train him. His parents disliked Aipom because he was a "dirty animal." One day, while Will was training with Aipom an angry wild Starly attacked him. By the time Aipom defeated the Starly, Will got a bad cut across his face that would later turn into a scar.
When Will turned 10 his parents didnt let him go on his journey because of that incident. He was furious. After they didnt let him go Will insisted that he would go the next year. Will trained with his Aipom really hard and trained himself really hard. Will became a well-oiled machine. He and his Aipom were both getting powerful.
Finally, Wills parents let him go on his journey when he turned 11 and Will had a great beggining. He and his Aipom beat the first two gyms within two weeks. Aipom even evolved into an Ambipom. Will also caught many pokemon. After he beat the third gym his starting team consisted of: Ambipom, Graveler, Ponyta, and Buizel.
He heard about the Master Quest in Kanto and thought that he had a decent chance because of how well he was doing in Sinnoh. So he went back home and begged his parents. Of course, they said no because Kanto wasnt "nice" like Sinnoh. This made Will extremely furious. So Will took some of his parents money and went back to his journey. He only got to the street corner, when his older brother Derek stopped him. Derek had 7 badges and told Will that if he beat him than he could go to Kanto. The battle was feirce but in the end, Will won and was allowed to go to Kanto to take on the Master Quest challenge.

Personality: Will is quiet but he isnt shy. He will try his best to be freinds with you, but usually only when you approach him first. He is a really competative battler , especially in the Master Quest. He is not courageous at all. He is extremely clumsy and "accident prone." He is very clever but he isnt intelligent. He loves his pokemon but is very strict with them. He trains his pokemon every day and he trains them extremely hard. After training he takes good care of them.

Pokemon:

Ambipom
Male
Ambipom is a crazy pokemon. He is extremely nice and helpful to others. He was given to Will on his ninth birthday. Ambipom is very courageous unlike his trainer. Will and Ambipom have a very close relationship. He trains very hard and loves to battle. Will treats Ambipom like a person. Ambipom hates pokeballs and likes to walk with Will.
Moves: Scratch, Tickle, Fury Swipes, Swift, Astonish, and Tail Whip

Buizel
Female
Buizel was found by Will in Jubilife city. Buizel has regular colors except she has one arm that is smaller than the other so she isnt very good at swimming. Buizel trains the hardest out of Wills pokemon but is still a little weak. She is shy and embarresed because of her arm. She is also not courageous. She looks up to Ambipom as an older brother.
Moves: Sonic Boom, Quick Attack, Pursuit, Aqua Jet, and Agility

Maybe trainer RPs aren't so bad after all. Reserve me for Hoenn

I'll finish my SU soon enough.

Name: Kate Brayve
Gender: Female
Age: 14
Region: Hoenn

Appearance:
Picture for reference:
Spoiler:

-Physical Appearance-

Kate is pure Caucasian, not a trace of any other color, which is just the way she likes it. Many people say this matches beautifully with her pitch-black hair, which is kept very long and scruffy at best, reaching down to her hips. She has a very slender build, but has some muscle in her when it is required. Since most of the time Kate just prefers to take it steady, avoiding fights with a clever choice of words over punches. Her eyes are a great brown, and can be mistaken for black from a distance.
Kate stands at 5 ft '10' cm and weighs, well, a little lighter than she should be. She doesn't eat too much, since she seems determined to keep herself the way she is: slender. Kate's hands are small, people say she inherited her mother's hands, small and elegant.

-Clothing-

Kate has a strange obsession with the Pokemon Dragonair. That is why most of her clothing is quite Dragonair-themed. She wears a king's blue pullover jumper marked all over with beautiful black patterns of the Pokemon Dragonair on the sleeves and back. Under it she wears a lighter, bright blue T-Shirt with similar patterns all over it. Both of these, in addition to a beautiful golden Dragonhead pendant she wears around her neck, and a Dragonair-themed handbag she keeps around her shoulder with all her items, were part of the dragonborn clothes line, they were limited addition so they were hard to get.
Her legwear is fairly simple: black trousers. Simple black, lighter than her hair, in addition to a simple brown belt that really doesn't do anything. Her shoes are pink and violet and are strapped with lace.

History:

-Birth and Childhood-

Kate was born in the region of Hoenn to a casual family in Mauville City. Her father was a bike salesman and her mother was an at-home mom who devoted her time to her two children: Kate and Andy. Andy was an adopted little brother that her mother had taken in from the orphanage when she was five. Kate grew up like any other girl, going to school, making friends. But really, she always dreamed of travelling to Kanto and seeing the elusive Dragonair: her favorite Pokemon. She had always been mystified by its complexity, yet its simplicity all in one. In order to meet and catch a Dragonair, she first had to become a trainer of course, and so this was her dream. Many people kept telling her that her dream was just way too simple, that once it was done she'd be at a loss of what to do. But nothing could discourage young Kate.

-Time as a trainer-

Kate finally got her chance to be a trainer at twelve. Her parents (especially her mother) had never let her go, for fear of the various dangerous Pokemon spread across Hoenn. It took two years, but Kate and her friend Joel managed to convince her mother to let her go. The two chose their starter Pokemon, Mudkip for Kate and Treecko for Joel, and set off to journey. The two journeyed together for the next year, both of them had been taking on the gym challenge. Kate thought if she got all the badges she could get to Kanto, how she was going to do this she had no idea, but Kate was never one to think ahead. Joel and Kate eventually split up, Kate went on to gather badges, and Joel decided to pursue the Pokemon Contest challenge instead. As with most, she journeyed through Hoenn for another year, only collection one extra Pokemon along the way (she wanted to save lots of spots up for Dragonairs)

-The opportunity of a lifetime-

By this time, Kate had already seized four gym badges, when a great opportunity presented itself: Master Quest. A great quest in Kanto, a sort of race for more experienced trainers to collect all the badges. Not only would she get a large amount of money just for trying, but she would also be able to finally catch Dragonair. It was a dream come true, and Kate was one of the first people to sign up. Her application was one of the best, and of the first batch of applications she was chosen along with someone else: Joel McBorr. Joel had somehow made it into the contest after winning four badges in Hoenn and even managing to compete in the Grand Tournament in Sinnoh, his application was sure to be accepted. Their friendship had now become a blazing rivalry, and of all the people competing, Kate was most anxious to beat him.

Personality:

-Good Qualities-

Kate is outgoing and jumpy in nature, she enjoys life and won't hesitate to take advantage of it recklessly. She only ever looks at the bright side and doesn't stay attached to the past, at least most of the time. She has no regrets with what she has done, whatever it may be. She is quite fun to be around and simply enjoys company. Whether it be from other trainers or from her own Pokemon. She also enjoys a good competition, and is no sore loser. Kate could never think of hurting a wild Pokemon, thinking it rather barbaric to simply attack a Pokemon because you want it. Instead, she prefers to catch only the Pokemon that like her initially, or get to know her better. Attacking wild Pokemon is not an option for her. So to gain experience, Kate often gets her Pokemon to fight each other, as a result, Marshtomp and Vibrava have developed a fierce rivalry.

-Bad Qualities-

Kate is outgoing, which means she never thinks ahead and is incredibly reckless. She has no sense of consequences, since she never thinks of the future and what might happen. She is too focused on the now. Also, she may not be a sore loser, but she is a sore winner. She won't go all 'In your face' but she may mull over her victory in private for days from then. She does this because she believes every victory to be a step closer to her dream, but really it can get on other people's nerves.

Kate is also rather finicky and picky. If made to wait in a certain place for longer than ten minutes, she starts to whine and gets annoyed. She is very impatient indeed. She is quite picky over everything: What she wears, what Pokemon she has, etc. She also has favorites for just about everything and everyone. For example, Joel is her favorite Contest Competitor and rival.

-Likes-

As mentioned before, Kate enjoys good company, which is why she absolutely despises travelling alone. She can get scared rather quickly then. So she keeps her Vibrava out of its Pokeball most of the time, to assist when there is nobody around. Plus it's useful because Vibrava can fly, helping to scout for what is ahead. She usually asks it to fly about and see if they are on the right track.

Kate, of course, absolutely loves the Pokemon Dragonair. It is a sort of obsession, and she has always dreamed of meeting one. And even further, catching and raising it. She is not interested in letting it evolve into Dragonite, because Dragonair is apparently 'Far more elegant and complex' than its evolutionary cousin.

-Dislikes-

None that matter.

Pokémon:

1
Spr_5b_329.png

- Species: Vibrava
- Gender: Male
- Personality/history: Kate found Vibrava in the desert as a Trapinch, it was only her second Pokemon, and being a Dragon type, is sort of a reminder of Dragonair. Vibrava is honest, loyal and obedient, he is often left out of his Pokeball to act as a scout and navigator for Kate. He is her favorite Pokemon on her team. However, when Vibrava gets excited, it's the crazy express for him. He is at loss of what to do then, and will often do irrational things that he would never normally do.
2
Spr_5b_259.png

- Species: Marshtomp
- Gender: Female
- Personality/history: Kate's starter Pokemon, Marshtomp is a cautious and non-battling type. However, she is sort of a bully, and loves to pick on weak Pokemon just to satisfy herself.

162.png

- Species: Furret
- Gender: Male
- Personality/history: Furret is Kate's first Pokemon in the Kanto region. She met it randomly when it started pecking at her feet in the tall grass. Furret is brave and reckless by nature, and often throws itself into tricky situations.

I hope it's good enough. I honestly could've done better but I'm really out of ideas and tired.

@ Tauros14 - The appearance part is pretty short, but it will make do. I had to read the personality part several times to try and get a good grip of what kind of person Will really is, but it's ok. Also, interesting Buizel!

You are ACCEPTED for Sinnoh, welcome to the RP.

@ Wymsical - how nice to see you here! Trainer RPs are what you make them be... or what the GM makes them be ;) Looking forward to your SU.

In the meantime, consider yourself RESERVED for one Hoenn spot.

@ Shawn - naturally <3 What region?

Reserve me for Unova please! I will do some of my SU now, and complete it later once I thought up of something for it...I'm a beginner at Roleplaying, so correct me if I am wrong or going too far. Updated, and finished my SU. Hope I'm not messing up anywhere. (I'm a newbie to be honest....I haven't started roleplaying yet at all...)

Name: Stephany Rain

Gender: Female

Age: 14

Region: Unova

Appearance: Stephany is a slender, yet quite short-for-her-age woman with a melancholic appearance. She has fairly long and messy hair that reaches down to her stomach, leaving a few long bangs that cover the area between her eyes. Her eyes are dark purple in color, has light skin, and has one beauty mark over the top right of her lip. She also has a strange mark that was passed down to her from her mother's side, which is a dark purple line descending from her right right as if it were a tear trail. Her facial expression is similar to a frown or sadness, yet it's only her normal everyday expression.
She wears a white-colored hooded jacket with black fur on the cuffs and hem, with black pants. Her white sneakers are similar to skateboarding shoes, with a big tongue and wide width that fits her comfort. Stephany wears her white winter hat everywhere, only taking it off for personal business such as the showers, swimming, etc. Her black string bag is slung over her left shoulder, the strings white in color. Stephany carries everything inside it.

For those who prefer to look at her to get a better view, I did a rough sketch of what she looks like.
Spoiler:

History: She was born under a very hardworking family. Her father's side had very dedicated, hard workers that came from Hoenn to live the better life in Unova. Her mother's side made up the innocent, too forgiving family blood that carries on to her children. Born under a mixed household, she came out to be just like her father. At first, she was very shy and energetic, her parents spoiling her for a year or two. The attention she got ended when her sister was born, jealousy coming over her. After these years, she dedicated her elementary years trying to be the most intelligent out of her school. The work payed off, getting one of the highest scores and best grades with A+ everywhere. Even so, her sister was her opposite: sweet, short-tempered, chubby, forgiving, talkative, not-so-smart, gossipy, and too easy. These traits were just like her mother's, so her sister got all her mother's attention. While her father went to work, she grew outcast and started to make her father her favorite. Stephany would enjoy and savor every single moment her dad came home from work, her dad's attention completely on her. Her jealousy for her sister grew worse after her mother gave a pokemon to her sister, yet not Stephany, stating that "the money could only buy for one, and as the oldest, she would understand."

It was until she hit middle school that her personality changed, turning into a teen. She became even more shy, reserved, serious, and quiet. When she hit 11, her father gave Stephany her first pokemon ever: a male pawniard. Cherishing this birthday present, she dedicated her time and snuck it to school for company. Pawniard would soon become the closest thing she had, Stephany not having many friends due to her shyness. Later on, a tragedy struck that crushed her hope when she was 13. He father died from a mysterious illness. Depression hit her for the rest of the rest of that year, yet her pawniard helped cure that by showing her the path of the pokemon trainer. Hearing about master quest, she was able to build new hopes up and train to go meet Kanto for herself. It was while she was training that she found an abandoned Gothorita inside a box. A letter was inside, tempting her to read. Stephany soon discovered that the trainer had abandoned this precious pokemon, and she then decided to keep it for herself. Afterwards, she decided to start traveling on her own, leaving her sister and mother behind. Before she turned 14, she was able to defeat 3 gyms, her pokemon quite strong and her enjoyment for battles making her more picky. She is aiming for the Master Quest, not needing to ask for permission since by now, her loyalty and love for her sister and mother had, sadly, faded away.

Personality: Stephany is a very quiet, shy, serious, and reserved teen. She does not socialize well, and only speaks when spoken to. Despite of this, she is very intelligent and serious when it comes to completing duties and goals. Battles fond her, but won't battle a trainer unless asked to or given a chance. Habits she has include humming out of the blue, staring into space, thinking strange thoughts, and imagining strange outcomes. Her view of pokemon is of friendship and seeing them as comrades. She tends to hide her emotions, only revealing them to people very close to her. Stephany is rather of a tomboy, having a love for video games and having a hate for dresses and skirts. In tough situations, she is quite calm and is a good problem-solver. Prefers to work alone though, trying to avoid crowds and teams as much as possible. This can include walking a lonely street or not participating in events thanks to her shyness. When it comes to her friends, she is completely devoted to them, and is a hopeless romantic as well. Loyalty to her is very delicate. Once somebody breaks her friendship, honesty, loyalty, or important promise, she will start a grudge. She does not forgive easily, and enemies to her are useless, and thus avoids them at all costs. Rarely does she get angry, but when she does, she blocks the outside world and goes completely silent until she calms down. Stephany is a perfectionist, and detailed. Her explanations are very detailed, down to the smallest hint of smell or dust(such as if she were explaining where to go or how something looks like). Training is a must, and she always makes her pokemon more powerful than the gym leader, even if it takes weeks to do. The work pays off however, able to defeat the gym leaders with ease. Her patience is great, since the longest training for a gym, which was for the second gym leader, took a month to complete.

Pokemon:
Species: Pawniard
Gender: Male
Personality/History: Pawniard is very brave, quite cold, patient, and serious pokemon. He doesn't like to lose a fight, and would go as far as using the environment around him to help him win the fight. He is rarely seen having fun or ever smiling except when he is alone with Stephany and Gothorita. He acts like a noble knight, quick and graceful. He doesn't hesitate to go into danger, and is very silent and dark. He is very loyal to his trainer, and is the closest friend he has. To her, Pawniard is the only reminder she has of her father.

Species: Gothorita
Gender: Female
Personality/History: Unlike Pawniard, Gothorita is a very shy, docile, and creative pokemon. She prefers not to fight, yet when she does, tries to use her powers to their full potential. Very shy, she is nervous even when she is summoned out to a battle. Despite of this, Gothorita is very artistic and intelligent. She has mixed emotions for Pawniard. However, she has full faith in Stephany.

I think I'll reserve for Unova, if I may.

@Miss Doronjo - Lol, don't think you can reserve for Kanto, just Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova. :P

Everybody loves Unova. *Shot*

Hoenn rules. I think it's the most rich and original of the regions. And it was the most fun to play. If they don't make a remake I'm going to go to Japan and beat up Gamefreak. Seriously. Down to every last beta tester. :P

I love Hoenn as well, favorite region.....yet my favorite pokemon are in Unova and such...eh, I guess pokemon preference matters here.....besides...I added Hoenn to my history....and they should make a remake of Hoenn. Hoenn rulez!

By the way....I thought only two for each region mentioned above....

for him.

I'm trash.

@ Otherworld9) - that's the kind of SU I'm looking for :) ACCEPTED for Unova. Welcome to the RP!

@ Pokemaster X - yes, you are RESERVED for Sinnoh.

@ Miss Doronjo - Since I'm moving around my earlier decisions a little... you'll get an Unova spot :3 RESERVED.

@ Nakuzami - a Unova spot is RESERVED for you.

@ Wymsical - I'll go with you, man xD

@ First Snow - really? I'm flattered! :3 The spots are taken already but... I'll be nice. Let's open up two extra spots. You are RESERVED for Hoenn.

@ Supervegeta - See comment for First Snow ;) You can choose between Hoenn or Sinnoh.

Remember: reservations only last 24 hours. I don't want to drag out the SU-phase for weeks. If your reservation time is up but no new aspiring player else has noticed it and posted here... you may renew your reservation ;)

NO MORE SPOTS OPEN FOR NOW! (meaning, no more people can sign up if they haven't already put in a reservation)

Only 24 hour reservations? That means I have . . . ~3 hrs and 10 minutes . . . better get typing!
OMG . . . should I use one of my old characters (*coughKriscough*) or one I haven't used yet . . .
Wait, I should totally try to play an antagonistic character! A combination of N and Neku (see my avatar :P) but then . . . that might make him support Team Shiro . . . heheheh, that could be interesting. :3

That would be a good plot twister to see.....if it did happen actually. I was planning on that, but my character's bio wouldn't really fit it unless she had a very good purpose.......antagonistic sounds nice......Team Shiro sounds a bit like Team Plasma for some odd reason. Probably just me though.

@ Wymsical - ACCEPTED for Hoenn :) but if you feel like adding more to your SU on a day when you're not so tired, you are welcome to. Please notify me if you do :3

And don't worry guys... I mostly put up the 24 hour rule to stress that I don't want people to say they're reserving a spot and then never get around to make the SU. I don't care if you're a few hours late, just don't wait several days, please :3

@ Naku and Otherworld - yeah, that might be interesting indeed! And no it's not just you, Team Plasma was of course a source of inspiration ^^ I reused Team Shiro from an older RP of mine called "Begin, Again".

The best way to spice up journey RPs might be to have strange/peculiar/antagonistic/fun characters!

Oh, I hadn't realized that you reused Team Shiro, lol. I actually still have the first half of my gym battle post against . . . that lady gym leader, which I never finished, lol.

Okay, Ima get working on this character! Since I'm starting from scratch, I might be a little late, lol.

^^

Since you notified me (and aren't going to use Kris, which makes me very curious) it's perfectly fine.
