    Basically, earlier today I was without electricity for about 6 hours. I found myself really bored without it, resorting to sleeping for a while and using as much as I could of my DS and ipod. This made me wonder what it would be like if there was no more electricity.

    Imagine that you found out that in one week, electricity would no longer exist. I can't really think of a good reason why it wouldn't exist, but just imagine there's a really good reason. Anyway, that wouldn't be enough time to convert all your current electrical appliances to wind or solar power or anything along those lines. It could also take a few years to develop such appliances, too.

    What would you do to prepare for this?

    Infact, would you be able to live in a world without electricity? Would this maybe bring you closer to people you weren't close with before - or would it not affect your relationships with people at all?

    Would you stop using electricity for the next week to prepare for the sudden change? Would you take the reverse approach and actually use more electricity, knowing it won't matter in a week? Or will you maybe deny that this is happening and just use electricity like normal for the week before it happens?

    Oh and a little twist, electricity won't exist again during your lifetime, either. :) This also means you won't be able to charge your DS / laptop and stuff, won't have a computer, won't be able to dry your hair, use heater, fan, etc.

    What would you do to prepare for this?
    Go out and buy crap loads of book, board games, candles and whatnot.

    I probably would be able to, it'd just take a while to get used to.
    And it'd probably make me less sociable as most of my friends live quite far away so i'd probably loose contact with them.

    As for that little group of other questions, i'd probably use less electricity so i can get use to the change.

    Books would work pretty well. xD;

    It would be kinda tough, but it would also encourage me to hang out with my friends more, yeah. It would most likely affect my relationships with people. But not even music? Ouch. xD;

    I couldn't care less. See, I've had more than 10 blackouts, and they all usually last a few hours...but what worries me is that they almost always happen in the hot/cold seasons, so I can't even go to sleep with crying babies.

    I mainly talk to my mom or go to the store to get ice/blankets or we just stay home.

    But we'll learn to adapt.

    Probably buy out all the batteries from at least 100 different stores that could last me through a good 10 years or more.

    Probably not, seeing as I was brought up in a world with electricity, and I'll need it to survive some way or another. I guess it would bring me closer.

    What would you do to prepare for this? Prepare a weapon so I can go all suicide when the day finally comes.
    (see second question)

    Infact, would you be able to live in a world without electricity? Would this maybe bring you closer to people you weren't close with before - or would it not affect your relationships with people at all?No, hence my response to the first question. My life is so based on electronics that I'd go crazy with boredom without it... In fact I'm known to complain and whine like it's the end of the world when we lose power for a few hours.

    Now, if I wasn't so attached to my electronic goodies, I might take a stab at trying to live without, but as I am I'd just go crazy.

    I would die without electricity. No AC in the summer, no internet, no phones...I don't have a driver's license yet, so I would be pretty much cut off from other people. It would go back to not being able to do much at night, because you won't want to waste your lantern oil.

    The biggest problem by far would be food. You know how when the electricity is out you try not to open your fridge to let out the cold air until it comes back? Yeah, we'd have to go back to salting and smoking and iceboxes and trying to preserve things. We'd also have to go back to open markets, because of the lack of ability to preserve huge amounts of food by the stores.

    However, I feel like the fact that we have more knowledge of the world around us means we won't have quite as much trouble as in the olden times without electricity. I mean, we now know how to take cans of food and fill them with preservatives so they can last indefinitely, and we know how to make not-terrible dried food. Although chances are we won't be able to do that once the electricity goes, because I bet that it's an automated process using electricity, lol.

    That last week, I would probably be too worried about how I was going to survive from then on food-wise to do anything related to leisure. I'd be with my family, calling people, writing down their mailing addresses so we can keep in contact, buying preserved food, trying to do things that will be significantly more difficult once it goes out (i.e. machine washing all my clothes). I would probably be using a lot more electricity, but not just to use electricity, because I would want to do everything. I would also find a safe place to hide things, because you know without any electronic security systems, everyone would feel free to rob others since there would probably be little recourse. Without evidence from crimes such as fingerprinting (machines use electricity), DNA, and security cameras, a lot of bad people would go free.

    What would you do to prepare for this?
    Honestly, I have no idea D:

    Infact, would you be able to live in a world without electricity? Would this maybe bring you closer to people you weren't close with before - or would it not affect your relationships with people at all?
    Living in a world without electricity would be horrid and sure would be difficult after having it in my possession all these years. I think it would bring me closer to certain people though, since electronics wouldn't be able to get in the way of my relationships and time spent with people.

    If we all lived lives from the beginning without electricity, I think the world could be a better place. We'd go back to our former lifestyles based around community and honest work, rather than laziness and reliance on machines and electrical appliances (which I'll admit I'm guilty of as well).

    If I suddenly lost electricity right now after living most of my life with it, then I'd probably take quite a while to adapt. I've gone without electricity for days upon end before, and I was really quite bored. I spent most of my time wasting either painting models or at the local pub.

    I don't think it would affect any of my relationships with people. I do think I'd be able to make something more of my life though; sometimes I even wish there was no electricity at all. It means I'd devote myself to guitar, painting and cooking much more; because right now I don't devote as much time as I should to any of these hobbies, because I'm wasting my time on the computer, or just listening to music instead of making it. There is so much to do that doesn't involve electricity, it really wouldn't be the end of the world; we simply use it because that's what we've always been accustomed to.

    I remember once there was a black out at night and my friends and I spent hours and hours just talking by candlelight. I don't even know what we had planned to do, but it ended up being a great time. I'm totally going to ignore the harsh realities of a world without electricity and just say I think I'd cope just fine. I might miss it and the things I used to be able to do, but I'm sure I'd find other things to keep me going. Lucky for me I have like a million books. :D

    Oh, but before it happened I'd make sure to print out a lot of stuff I've written from my computer. I'd hate to loose all of that.

    i'd be a treehugger with poor hygiene, baggy eyes, and bad clothes traveling the world as a nomad trying to spread the word of freeing the earth. i've lived without electricity before, so i know i'll be able to do it. there are better sources of entertainment out there than the television and the computers, you just have to go find it. if you aren't a hermit, that'll be easy. i don't think i'll be able to prepare for it. things like that are hard to prepare for. i remember coming home and finding the electric shut off. i think the hardest thing to deal with is the lack of air conditioning and fans in a house. cold water can only do so much with that... haha. :[ i imagine i'd be a lot closer with the people around me, though, which is good!

    ^ That is what I'm gonna do. Not going to buy too many, though. Since the batteries might leak and might not be able to last for 10 years.

    I dunno. :v

    What can you do to prepare for this?: I don't really know.

    Would you be able to live in a world without electricity?: Not really because I use electricity for almost everything I do.

    Great questions!

    What would you do to prepare for this?
    Develop the solar resource utilization, if I really can do it I will become rich. =)

    Infact, would you be able to live in a world without electricity?
    Yes, it's just a matter of time to become accustomed. (I'm the type who can easily adapt)

    Would this maybe bring you closer to people you weren't close with before - or would it not affect your relationships with people at all?
    Yes, it could be. with no electricity I almost can't do anything. So, I will move to new activities, and of course new friends will come.

    Be Thomas Addison and make electricity again xD

    No, i cant. No, it will affect my Relationship.

    My own questions:
    What will you do?
    I will get a Pikchu and use Thunder at my house.

    Will you use PC?
    I will use a paper and write all people on PC! I do!

    1. Books. XD
    2. I could live in a world without power, but I would hate it.
    3. Yes, it would bring me closer to people.

    I'm always fashionably late 8)

    Congrats, this is Poll of the Week!

    *stuck*

    I'd say I'd answer this later but tbh I have no idea how I'd cope ;~;

    We had a power cut a few months ago, and the only reason I managed to retain composure and exhibit reasonable levels of sanity was because I had my iPhone, with its stored electricity. Had i not had that, I would have become very irritable very quickly, and that was only in the space of a hour! As bad as this sounds, electricity - and, more specifically, the Internet - has become such a part of my life that I'm not sure how I'd cope without it. In terms of preparation, I dunno... honestly, I have no idea.

    Honest to god, I don't know if I'd be able to do it. Electricity is present in nearly every technology I can think of that I'd use to contact my friends and people I know. I guess my only mode of transportation would be my bike but I don't really know my local friends' addresses, it would be difficult to get ahold of them to meet up... I'd probably lose all my meds until they could learn to fabricate them without the use of electricity... even if I don't think about the internet (which I also think I'd be unable to live without), there's so many things I depend on electricity for.

    In the week leading up, I'd definitely talk to people online more, and use all the electricity I could, probably marathoning my favourite video games again before I knew I wouldn't be able to use them. XD;

    All in all, I can't imagine how hard this would be for me. @_@ I don't really have many useful skills outside of things-that-use-electricity.
