    G8's Small Writing Competition!
Hosted/Judged by Astinus, Bay Alexison and bobandbill

Welcome everyone to Get-Together Eight's Small Writing Competition! Ready to write a story based on this year's prompt that will impress the three judges and the rest of PC? Great!

But first, a few rules to keep in mind.

    Rules

1.) Follow PC's rules and Fanfiction and Writing's rules
2.) The stories written for this competition must be completely new. In other words, they must not have been written before and not posted anywhere else until judging is over.
3.) You must PM your entries to all of the judges. (This is so if someone loses their PMs the others still have them and so forth). The judges in question are Astinus, Bay Alexison and bobandbill. You also must post in this thread when you send your PMs so we can confirm you did send us an entry.
4.) One entry per member only, sorry.
5.) You have until the end of the the G8 event timeslot to send in your entry - that is, 11:59 PM on Monday July 18 EST.
6.) The story can be based on Pokemon or be original fiction. Note the judges may not all be familiar with any other fandoms.
7.) The entry can only be a completed one-shot as this is a small writing competition - no chaptered entries, please!

If you have any other questions, ask away!

    Scoring

Each entry can have a maximum score of 30, with the points broken down into three categories equaling 10 points in total like in previous years. The categories are:

    Spelling and Grammar
    Characterization, Plot, and Description
    Relevance to Prompt

The prompt is 'cast aside', so good luck with making use of that in your story!

    Emblems!

Courtesy of Bay Alexison, these are your prizes!

    1st Place

    2nd Place

So with that, good luck with your entries - we look forward to reading them!

We apparently don't have a more exciting title~

This is going to be the planning thread for the Writing Competition. I'm thinking we'll just use the judging criteria that we used in years past, with the 30 points broken down into three categories equaling 10 points in total. The categories being:

    Spelling and Grammar
    Characterization, Plot, and Description
    Relevance to Prompt

Are those fine? I'm doing most of this off the top of my head, so I can't really remember more specifics if there were any.

And the only rule I can think of currently is to follow FF&W's rules.

    Also, we need a prompt.

    And an emblem.

And quite possibly a more coherent post explaining this. Done by someone more awake than I.

I'm cool with using the judging criteria we had used in the past. Pretty much those three categories had been used when I hosted the writing competition last year.

Last year a couple extra rules I put is the story has to be new/not posted anywhere else until after the contest and PMed to the judges. Perhaps do that again this year?

Prompt...last contest it's challenge and the one before that was time, so I'm thinking this year something a bit more silly like cliches (do a story dealing with cliches in Pokemon fanfiction writing and turn it upside down)?

The emblem I can whip up something again, no problem.

Hm, quite busy at the moment but if you and bobandbill aren't able to do a post explaining the contest I can be able to make one before the contest starts.

    Same here.

    Sounds good to me.

Hmm, something in that direction may be a neat idea (although if someone wants to write outside the Pokemon fandom I suppose said prompt would have to allow for an even standing with that. On that note in the rules we should mntion that not all judges may be familar with all fandoms?)

...yeah, you're better with graphical stuff than me. XD

I should be able to manage it easily enough so no worries there.

I'm thinking for this year it has to be Pokemon if we're going to go for the cliches prompt. I thought it would be fun to see what Pokemon fanfiction cliches the writers will use. Also all three of us are familiar with Pokemon, so it'll be easier that way than having ones with different fandoms.

We don't have to go with the cliche idea, though. I'm up for any other prompts if you guys thought of one, maybe something that can be for Pokemon and original. I only thought of cliche as a prompt because I did that for a weekly writing contest at a different fandom, haha.

:P I might be able to make one tomorrow after I get off from work.

All right, cool. Can't wait to see that.

Yeah, depending on what we use for a prompt will let us know what fandoms we'll allow. Though there is the matter that we're all not familiar with every fandom out there, so we might not be able to judge stories for different fandoms that well. If we just allow Pokemon fics, then we'll be better with judging since that's what we're all familiar with.

I do like the cliche idea, but on the other hand, we might get people wanting to enter who aren't that well-read when it comes to Pokemon fanfiction, so they might not know all the cliches. Maybe a more general one will work to keep it open to more people who want to enter. That's just my thoughts.

    +1

That's a good point so maybe something different then would be what we ought to go for that is more general as said (a number of people who enter don't often go in the ff&w section from what I recall in previous years, so...).

I do like "cast aside" but I will admit that I'm more of an angst writer than anything.

But really, I'm fine with either one of those.

Holy carp those are adorable and I want one.

Maybe switch the colors of the participant and first place around, so that first place = gold and participant is the bronze color. Or maybe we'll just keep things different. It's really no big deal.

I have the beginnings of our introduction post floating around in my head. Depending on what I'm doing in work tomorrow, I might have something written up.

^Agree with the above - they are fine (well, great to be frank =p) but the colour swap makes sense.

    That does look better.

I was completely unable to work on the Writing Competition post yesterday. And since I cut my finger open, I can't type with ease. So I'll have to hold off for a few days before that can happen. Unless Marcin has something planned.

That sucks, Astinus. >_< How did the cut happen? Anyways I can write it up for you - if you want you can give me the general gist of what you wanted to write and I'll work off that.

Piece of glass in the bottom of a trash can. The only way to empty the trash is by placing my hand in to scoop out the trash. So...at 11:00 at night I'm running across the parking lot bleeding.

    No one cared. :(

As for the post, I was thinking of starting of with a general greeting. Let me pound out what I got:

Welcome everyone to Get-Together Eight's Small Writing Competition! Ready to write a story based on this year's prompt that will impress the three judges and the rest of PC? Great!

1.) Follow PC's rules and Fanfiction and Writing's rules
2.) The stories written for this competition must be completely new. Not written before and not posted anywhere else

That's really all I could think of when I was planning this out in my head. I don't know how to word the rest of the information, what to include for other information aside from the prompt and who the judges are, or how to organize it out. But I figured the rules were most important, so they go first.

Hope it gets better soon then.

And all right, I may even do it tonight (because tomorrow I'm off to a party so will not be on in the evening and all). I guess we'll have that first (makes sense to have the rules first, agreed) with a bit more added (eg PMing entries to all the wonderful judges during which we will all be named and all I suppose, etc), then mention the scoring system (and mention also we may not all know about fandoms other than Pokemon - speaking of which are we allowing non-pokemon stories besides original fiction? especially as the writing comp is listed in misc in the event index) + prompt, then show the emblems. Y/N?

Ouch, that sucks Astinus. D: I too hope it gets better soon.

I think original fiction can be allowed, too. Last year's competition I allowed for Pokemon and original fiction. Everything else is fine here.
