CITY OF HEROES

Intro

In 2005 a man appeared in Gotham City with a cape and a cowl, fighting back against the crime that dominated the city. As of 2012, he is rumored to be dead, saving the city from a nuclear bomb, however the list of super heroes has only grown since then. Another hero rose in Starling City shortly after, a masked man in a green hood, taking down criminals one by one with only a bow and arrow. A man in a red suit capable of running at incredible speeds appeared soon after in Central City, followed by a girl in a blue and red suit in Metropolis flying around stopping criminals. A new age is beginning it would seem, an age of heroes, but also villains.

The government has come up with a term for these kinds of people; metahumans. The term metahumans encoumpasses all those who have enhanced genetics in some way, to the point where they could be classified as having superhuman abilities. Up until now, the number of metahumans has been manageable. Several have taken it upon themselves to protect the cities that they live in from other metahumans with less noble intentions, and the government has allowed them to do so, although keeping a close eye on them. But things are changing. There is a new player on the block who is spreading the ability to become a metahuman.

Vertigo is a powerful drug that originated in Starling City and went through several variations, but the common thread between all variations is that it gives an incredible high, is extremely addictive, and can be very, very lethal. Someone discovered the drug in Starling, which many people went to great lengths to be sure that didn't happen, and has become to spread it again in another city, Steelport. It is not quite the same drug though. While some of the pills have been created and left as is, it has been discovered that some pills, maybe 1 in 500 are a chemical cocktail, partly Vertigo, and part of another drug called Mirakuru, "Miracle". Mirakuru was a drug invented in the 30s and 40s by the Japanese in an attempt to create a miracle drug that could cure anything and grant more than human strength, and they succeeded. The Mirakuru mixed in with the Vertigo is similar to the original drug, but seems to target different parts of genes than the original drug did.

The Vertigo/Mirakuru mix is designed to target a very specific part of a person's DNA, turning certain genes on, and others off. The drug serves only one purpose, to create metahumans.

Plot

At some point in the last couple weeks you took the new Vertigo drug and received superhuman abilities. Perhaps you really were looking for a high, maybe you were just trying to drown out the pain, maybe a friend of yours snuck it into your tylenol bottle as a joke, perhaps a doctor prescribed you some pills and gave you a few of them to get started. The how doesn't matter, the thing that matters now is that you have powers, and need to know what to do with them. You've discovered your ability on your own, but you need to learn how to control it, or you could end up doing even more harm to those around you. How you use your powers is up to you, but just know that right and wrong might not be as clearly defined as you might think, and the only person with your best intentions in mind is yourself.

SETTING

The majority of this roleplay will take place in Steelport, a city which replaces our own Seattle. The city was founded as a major port city, exporting (you guessed it) steel mined from the mountains and forged in foundries on the north side of the city. Since then the city has grown, becoming a technological hotspot as well as still having quite the lucrative steel industry. More information will be given on Steelport shortly.

Other major settings that you should know about are the four major cities in DC lore based on their respective TV shows at the moment. Gotham city, the home of Batman, is a large city on the coast of New Jersey. Metropolis replaces New York City. Starling City, home of Green Arrow and Arsenal is located in northern California on the coast. Finally Central City, home of the Flash, is a city located in Missouri. These locations will most likely not play a major role in the story, but they will be referenced.

POWERS

In terms of abilities I am allowing, most abilities are fair game, and there are only a few that I am outright banning. When it comes to writing your superpower, make sure that you keep it fair and balanced. Don't write yourself a Superman whose only weakness is a rock that exists a few thousand light years away. Despite having powers, your characters are very much human. I will have a guide I have written in the past to help with creating hopefully not overpowered abilities.

Another thing to take into consideration is that it does not have to be a superpower per se. For example, it is possible that the drug your character took increased their skill at a particular thing. For example, perhaps your character was really good at bowling before they took the drug, and the drug made them even better at it. It would make a fairly terrible hero, Bowling Man, but you get the point. Feel free to experiment with it a bit.

Banned Abilities:
Time Manipulation in any fashion
Deadpool levels of regeneration
Invulnerability (Would need some sort of limit, can't be paired with another power)
Mind Reading

Sammie "Cumulus" Camron

Gender: M
Age: 21

Appearance: Sammie Camron is dark-skinned individual standing at an impressive height of 6'5". He is really thin, not muscular in any sense, as if a slight breeze is enough to carry him throughout the world, although, with his height, it might only mean that any wind can topple him over. His hair is cut short, just enough to accentuate the black curls of his. It is matched by a deep-brown eyes set upon a wide forehead. Sammie is a bedimpled individual His teeth is a little crooked and there is a little chink on one of his upper-front teeth. He prefers to keep his face clean-shaven.

For his clothing, he prefers to wear a simple suit and tie at most times. He might vary the color from day-to-day but he prefers to not go out if he isn't wearing something good at the very least. He knows how to be stylish and is very picky when it comes to wardrobe choices. While he may not be really flashy, he knows what he wants and goes with it.

Personality: Of all things, Sammie Camron is someone afflicted with the bipolar disorder, resulting to severe and drastic mood shifts. There are times where he experiences a certain kind of high and his energy level seemed to shoot off the roof. He acts impulsive and reckless at times, even in situations beyond his physical capabilities. He becomes really talkative, which somehow annoys most of the people around him, aware or unaware of his situation. Because of his excessive energy, Sammie also sleeps a little.

However, after an episode of severe highs, expect an episode of severe lows where Sammie absolutely has spent all energy in his body. He sleeps a lot, trying to cope up with the tiredness he is feeling. He is easily irritated by people, but couldn't really do anything about it as he cannot socialize with them. He has trouble in concentrating on immediate tasks at hand and, if he can actually finish it, will result in very sloppy outcomes.

His episodes have considerably lessened as he started his therapy. However, the threat of an episode coming up always lingers at the back of Sammie's head. He had pinpointed out the cause of his mood shifts to stresses and pressures so he chose to always go with the flow and just be positive. This resulted to a Sammie-without-mood-shift to be a fairly optimistic and well-rounded individual.

History: The Camron family originated from Central City but Sammie's parents moved to Steelport when he was still young as his father's job required him to be in the area. Steelport is the only area of residence Sammie remembered and has no recollection of his life back in Central City.

He was misdiagnosed when he was a kid to have ADHD because of his hyperactivity and lack or focus on things at hand. His attention flickers from one thing to the next and he frequently daydreams. However, it subsided when Sammie was exiting elementary school. When he was in high school however, he was again misdiagnosed for depression because he had trouble socializing with people, frequent breakdowns, and feelings of worthlessness. His parents noted that Sammie was not the hyperactive kid anymore and that he looked more tired than usual. He answered in discordant tones and is more likely to stay in bed all day.

Sammie was properly diagnosed after he graduated from college. He took up mechanical engineering as a course, breezed through the academic requirements and went on for employment at one of the countless factories in Steelport. He had frequent bouts of highs and lows during college and while working and he kept it secret from his parents. Only those people around him knew and saw what was happening. One co-worker suggested that Sammie visit a psychiatrist to have him properly diagnosed and, when he was feeling a little neutral than ever, went on to see one Dr. Michael Sanders. Dr. Sanders, upon therapy and investigation, diagnosed Sammie to be a bipolar individual. He prescribed a new drug, with minute amounts of Vertigo in it, to Sammie and instructed him to take it, one pill after each meal. He also asked Sammie to return to him at least once a week for their therapy.

Sammie zealously followed the doctor's orders until he got into another of his low episode. He felt so badly of himself and it translated into physical pain. He knew the pills were working so, to drown out the pain, he took three at once. He was soon knocked unconscious.

Next thing he knew, he woke up in a puddle of water inside his own apartment. There were clouds above him and it freaked him out into another of his episodes.

Superpower: Cloud Manipulation
possible powers

While Sammie can control clouds to some extent, his powers also take on a bipolar form. If Sammie is in his extreme-high episodes, his power takes on what he calls Cirrus form. In Cirrus form, his cloud manipulation is more defensive. He can create cloud-armors by changing the density of the clouds. He can also create walls of clouds that seem to reflect most types of attacks. Sammie can also, to some extent, heal minor wounds by utilizing the water-properties of clouds.

If Sammie is in his extreme-low episodes, his power focuses more on the offensive which he calls his Nimbus form. He can create weapons out of his clouds. Since clouds and rain go hand-in-hand, Sammie's power extends to weather manipulation a bit as he can summon rain and thunderstorm at will, although he cannot control what it can do.

If he is not in any of his episodes, Sammie cannot use his power to his full potential. He can convert his body to clouds and move already-existing clouds but, for his power to be fully utilized, he needs to be in his episode. He discovered that, while taking one pill from what Dr. Sanders prescribed will reduce the chances of his episode to occur, three pills will ensure that he gets into a high or a low.

Damn you for uploading this while I'm at TAFE (and while I have two assessments to finish. Jerk). I'll be home in a few hours to make my mind reading, time altering, invulnerable immortal character. Just kidding.

Haha, sounds good you two! For the record, I'm not doing any reservations for two reasons. The first is that I've come to realize that reservations are kind of a bad thing for those who are not able to jump on things as quickly. The second is that I'm not putting any limit on the number of people who join. I'm sure I'll regret that at some point, but there it is.

Also, props to Ice for not doing his job properly. Seeing as how I forgot to include both a rules section and a rating, this never should have been accepted! Whoops, but I'll have those up shortly.

Name: Shinichi Yokota
Alias: Ferro
Gender: Male
Age: 23

Appearance: Ferro has hazel eyes and black hair. He is about 5' 9" and is well toned. He does not have a specific outfit, but prefers gray or silver to most colors. He has some facial hair and keeps it fairly neat. Imagine the picture to be younger than he is.
Spoiler:

Personality: For the most part, Sinichi does what is write, regardless if it breaks the laws or not. To some he may seem like a bad guy, to others, he seems like a good guy. He will occasionally steal from the rich and give to the poor. If he is payed enough, he will work with bad guys, but he won't hesitate to betray them. Same goes for the good guys. He also has a habit of breaking into anime and manga shops and stealing anything anime and manga related.

History: Shinichi was a survivor of a mass murder. This mass murder took the life of his parents and he was able to survive by hiding. After he saw the his parents dead bodies, he was angered and took a gun of a security officer who had been killed during the murder. The police arrived as Shinichi shot down the murderer and was accused of the murder. They had labeled him as mentally unstable. This angered Shinichi that they didn't believe him. Ever sense he has not had a love for the police or the bad guys.

As he got older, he started taking sides with whoever paid him well. However, he would betray those he worked for if they threatened to kill anyone. This lead to him making many enemies. He had a friend who was killed because of one of his betrayals. His friend liked anime and manga and both enjoyed many types. After the murder of his friend, he started buying or stealing any anime or manga related items for himself and collected them. He keeps his collection in buildings in some abandoned subways. He had created special steel doors that he was the only one who could open them with his powers. In most cases, the doors were nearly invisible due to blending in with the walls. So even if anyone came near, most likely they wouldn't see the doors or his rooms that he had set up.

Superpower:
Steel Manipulation -
Shinichi has the ability to shape and use you any type of steel as weapons or armor. He can control any steel within sight or can be psychically touched. He can form steel armor around his arms and use it as a gauntlet to throw steel objects that he shapes. The smaller the object, the further he can throw, but at the sacrifice of power. The larger the shorter the distance, but with more power.

Name: Jared "Red" Richardson
Alias: Red Rocket
Gender: Male
Age: 25

Appearance: Red is a large man, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 400 pounds. He originally had brown hair (and still has a brown goatee), but he bleached it, believing blond hair would make him look tougher. His usual outfit includes a red shirt and blue jeans. When in character as the Red Rocket, he wears a red shirt, black pants, and a red leather jacket. He hides his identity with black leather gloves and a red motorcycle helmet.

Spoiler:

Personality: As befitting a hero, Red has a flair for the dramatic and a love of action. He is bold and boisterous, making sure people notice him. In truth, he doesn't care about the people he saves or the crimes he prevents. He seeks attention and fame, and superheroes are very popular right now. Honestly, he'd get more money as a villain, but he views heroism as more challenging, better for society, and less risky in the long run.

History: Red grew up on the streets of Steelport, living a hard life under his abusive mother. His father was a kind and wise man, a worker in one of the many steel mills. However, tragedy struck one night, and he was cut down by a junkie high on Vertigo. Forced into the ghetto, Red's mother made a living by selling Vertigo, while Red, only 7 at the time, got his education at the School of Hard Knocks. (That's a metaphor, meaning he had to learn by experience out on the streets.)

However, there was an actual School of Hard Knocks he would frequent. Not actually a school, but a gym, Red learned how to fight from a grumpy old instructor. He was taught boxing, wrestling, freeform karate, and no-holds barred street fighting. By 15, he was a regular competitor in various underground fights, usually jobbing to more popular fighters and rarely winning the actual fights. But the fights payed well, and it put clothes on his back and food in his mouth. Quite a lot of food, actually. As Red got older, he got bigger, and with extra weight came an advantage.

By focusing on speed and weight, he became a successful boxer and a brutal street fighter. He was on his way to going pro, when a back alley brawl ended in disaster after a fighter high on Vertigo managed to suplex Red headfirst into a dumpster. Red lived, but his balance and coordination were ruined. Vertigo had destroyed his life twice and saved it once, and in a bout of depression, he rolled the metaphorical dice and decided to see what would happen. By sheer chance, he took one of the super pills, the Mirakuru healing his brain damage and granting him additional powers.

Superpower: Psychokinetic energy creation. Red can extend an aura of psychic energy around himself, which can be used in a variety of ways:

Telekinesis: Red can move objects with his mind. Living creatures with enough strength or willpower can break free from his grip. He can turn his telekinesis on himself, allowing for simple levitation or throwing himself for a quick burst of speed.

Psystrike: Red wreathes his fists in psychic energy, extending the reach of his punches. He believes this would also let him punch ghosts or other incorporeal beings, but he has never had a chance to test his theory.

Caya Fuertes
aka Pinnacle

"Sometimes bad guys are the only good guys you get."

Twenty-five years old
Illusion Manipulation

Power: Caya's powers allow her to create, shape, and manipulate illusions. Her illusions work by tricking the target(s)'s senses and making them believe in something that's false. Caya's power allows her to target touch, taste, sight, smell, and hearing, however, that's a lot to maintain as sometimes Caya forgets to target a sense or can't hold onto a large illusions for more than a minute. For now, Caya's specialty is smaller illusions, illusions such as changing the perception of her physical appearance or having a snarling dog that seems ready to attack someone or the appearance of a gun in her hand. These work great for cons and momentary distractions.

Appearance: If there was ever an accurate word to describe Caya's fashion decisions it would be: thievery. Every item in her wardrobe is courtesy of a lovely (and rewarding) five-finger discount. There isn't a thought in Caya's about putting money toward fashion when you get look how you want for free. The second good thing about steal clothes, the first being saving money, is variety. Caya owns name-brand clothing, fancy dress, leather jackets, heels, boots, wedges, but also regular run-of-the mill t-shirts with holes, sweaters that are too big for her, jeans that are too baggy. It can be tricky to steal the right sized clothing with her height being a bit taller than average, clothes that don't clash with her deeply tanned skin is another problem encountered. With all this diversity in her wardrobe it's rather easy for Caya to dress for the occasion, to project an image of herself to the world that may or may not be accurate. A consistent staple of Caya's appearance is her thick curly-at-the-end-only dark brown hair, it's always down, no exceptions. Being as long as it is, most of it can rest comfortably on her shoulders pouring over onto her chest, it's not worth the tedious effort of arranging different hairstyles.

Personality: High-Functioning Addict. Siphon. Aggressive. These are all adjectives that have been hurled at through angried conversation, but they were all technically true, technically. Hell, Caya hasn't ever defended herself from an accusation, unless it was stealing and the cops were asking. The law and Caya aren't a combination, in fact the rules and Caya aren't a good mixture. If they get in the way of completing what the tasks she needs to get done then they are ultimately obstacles to her goal. Since she isn't the most patience of individuals Caya doesn't like taking the "right" road if there's a shortcut whatever that may be. The riskier the better, immediate results are better than delayed ones. Though, what Caya is strict on are plans because there's no need for unnecessary risks, but incorporating shortcuts into her plan is her forte.

Caya lives a fast-paced lifestyle she doesn't have room to share the road with people in the slow lane nor the carpool lane. Those that cannot keep up are dropped and those that can are weeded out like rats. Keeping the same friends for long can be dangerous as you should never keep someone around who can eventually tie you back to all your past "mistakes". That, and people get boring, Caya easily stops caring about whats-his-face and is more interested in the person that just walked into the party. When one has the honor to hang out with Caya they quickly adapt to her crass attitude and learn beating around the bush isn't a hobby Caya likes to participate in. She prefers the blunter, string-worthy options when it comes to dialogue choices. With no desperate need of friends except for when the blame needs to be shifted elsewhere or when drugs are involved Caya's prefers to handle things on her own.

History: If you're expecting some sap story like both of her parents were murdered or her family abandoned her in a garbage or something you've got the wrong fan-fiction. If anyone was dead it was Caya, at least in her parent's eyes. Caya grew up in a stable home with stable parents and annoying, stable siblings. Like any other child she fought with her siblings, maybe more than usual, and broke curfew… every single time. Sure she was disciplined a lot as a child but what rule-breaking kids weren't? Caya doesn't pretend that her parents were in the wrong or they just didn't "get her", she just didn't care about their rules. If she wanted to have fun she was going to leave the house and go to the nearest party. Her behavior was the same all the way until college then it got worse.

She went to university, she graduated with a college degree, and she did a lot of drugs. A lot. It took awhile for her parents to find out because most people assume if you're a drug addict you can't keep a job, you look like a zombie all the time, and you live in a crappy apartment in one of those famous cities. Typical cliche thinking. Caya's a proud high-functioning addict who holds a job, has her own place, and can form decent and long-lasting friendships if she wanted that. There's nothing wrong with a little cocaine, ecstasy, molly or weed or a superhero-gifting pill if there's partying to be done, which there always is, then why not? Caya isn't an idiot she would never touch anything with a needle, after all, she does have some standards. Eventually, her parents found out and told her to stop she told them no. She didn't make a speech about how it wasn't a problem, it wasn't the biggest problem in her life and it didn't ruin her day so there wasn't a need to stop. Her parents haven't spoken to her since and she hasn't spoken to them either. Caya swallowed the Vertigo pill expecting a high not superpowers. She doesn't care about Batdude or Arseguy because talking about them was like being in a snoozefest, boring. But lately... Caya's been seeing the perks of being able to trick people into believing minor illusions, mainly money, drugs, jewels, and more clothes. Happy days wait ahead.

Alright then! IcyIce, you are accepted!

Godzil is accepted as well, the only thing I have to say for you is perhaps tone your ability down a bit. Most of it seems fine, but the last part I am having a bit of trouble with. If you drop the short range teleport part I think I would be okay with it.

RetroBug, I love the character and everything about her. My only issue is that you did not include an ability section, only stating that she had illusion manipulation. If you would just add some detail about how exactly that works, that would be great. So for now I'll put you down as pending.

Other than that, I'm looking at hopefully starting a week from now. SUs will be accepted past then, but you'll have a bit of catch up to do if you wait.

Okay, after a brief break of being hopelessly sick (bleugh), I'm feeling better and hopefully will get this off the ground in the next couple days. I'm looking to put up the opening post by Friday, which gives ShatteredFrost and Varys a couple days to get their SUs up.

Beyond that, if anyone has any questions or anything, feel free to ask.

Alright then, hopefully Shattered can join us shortly. I've been speaking with her as well, and its sounds like she just got a good idea for her character. And Varys' character is still a work in progress, so hopefully that will be ready soon as well! :D

On top of that, I figured its about time to put up my own two characters. They'll be tagging along with you guys and pushing the plot forward when....other....characters are otherwise unavailable.

Shadow.png

Rachel McNair

21 // Alias: Shadow // Female

Appearance: Rachel is a somewhat tall and slender young woman, standing about five feet and ten inches tall. A couple years of going through an anorexic phase left her deathly thin, although in the few years since she has put on more weight, although she is still skinnier and lighter than the average woman. She almost always has a smile on her face, and is lightly freckled and has a slightly pointed nose, reminiscent of her Irish descent. She has two bright hazel eyes, always darting from place to place, and her whole head is framed by wavy auburn hair that reaches down just past her shoulder blades.

Personality: Most would describe Rachel as being a very happy energetic person, almost to the point where people suspect she would have ADHD. She doesn't, her parents did have that checked, but she is always moving, always having to do something. Patience is not a skill of hers and she always wants to be moving. Her happiness comes through in a bubbly talkative attitude, which some find enjoyable but many others find to be a bit grating after a while.

While she may appear to be like this on the surface, she does have some serious issues on a much deeper level. Her biggest weakness would be that she wants everyone, and I mean everyone, to like her. This lead to a brief stint with anorexia, which could have killed her if her family hadn't intervened. Even now despite the fact that she has recovered from that she spends too much time obsessing over getting people to like her through appearance or her personality. She also hates to be alone, and the idea of being without friends or family terrifies her.

History: Rachel grew up in Steelport in a somewhat stressful household. Both of her parents had to work in order to support Rachel and her brother David, and her parents fought as all parents do, so the two siblings ended up closer to each other than either of their parents. Other than her family's strained situation, she grew up with a relatively normal childhood. She was bullied in middle school, and after she transferred to a different district for high school she was determined to not have that experience happen again, becoming obsessed with getting people to like her and to be popular. This obsession led to a couple years of being anorexic starting in her sophomore year of high school. Her parents were mostly oblivious to this until her senior year when she collapsed, her heart failing due to malnourishment. The paramedics were able to bring her back, and the whole family intervened in her situation getting her back on the right track.

She seemed to get her life back on track for a while after high school, and although her family could not afford any sort of college, she did end up getting a decent job as a receptionist for a pharmaceutical company. After working there for a year and living at home, she decided to move out to live with her brother across town, much closer to her work. Her parents had been fighting a lot for the past couple of years, and couldn't agree upon much. They did however agree that Rachel moving in with her brother was a bad idea, as they thought that he was becoming a bad influence on her. Seeing as how they weren't great examples though, Rachel went ahead with the move anyway, and lived in her brother's spare bedroom. Her parents were right though, her brother was indeed a bad influence, and she eventually stopped paying for the online college she had been using and instead went out to more and more parties with him where drinking and drugs were pretty much expected. Even her brother was a bit concerned for her, despite being the one who partied more, but his advice was essentially "Don't go overboard", which of course she always did. It was at one of these parties that she took some Vertigo, expecting the insane high that the dealer promised. Instead she got a fever for three days and super powers.

Powers: Shadow Manipulation

Rachel is capable of manipulating shadows. Her primary ability is a sort of short range teleport where her body is absorbed into the shadows and she becomes a sort of incorporeal thing. She then travels through shadow from one point to another, then emerges at her new location. The limitations to this is that doing it several times too quickly can leave her incredibly disoriented and dizzy, and the more times she does this the stronger the effects. She can only travel from point A to point B if there is a straight connection of darkness, any strong light becomes a sort of impassable wall she cannot travel through. In addition, it is not a true teleport. She moves quickly through the shadows, but it is not instantaneously, and if the piece of darkness she is moving through is removed by a bright light or something, then she feels intense pain and is kicked back into the physical world.

She is also capable of manipulating shadow itself into a sort of physical material, similar to her brother's ability. She, unlike him, has very little control over this, and can only create a small amorphous blob of darkness. This substance is incredibly dense and incredibly light, but creating enough to be useful seems to be beyond her.

Finally Rachel is capable of seeing in complete darkness.

David McNair

25 // Alias: Angel // Male

Appearance: David is a tall and lean man standing about six feet and one inch tall. He is somewhat muscular, he started working out about a year ago hoping that muscles would get him more ladies, although his body type doesn't put on muscle mass well. He does look strong a fit though, so that's a plus. His originally light brown hair is bleached blonde almost to the point where it's white, and he keeps it short and always has it spiked up, making his head kind of look like an albino porcupine. The rest of his face is somewhat similar to his sister's with light freckles and a slightly pointed nose, although he has blue almost grey eyes instead of hazel. He prefers light colored and comfortably loose clothing, usually wearing light colored tee shirts along with his favorite leather jacket, a bleached white with black accents on the seams.

Personality: People usually use words like "cocky", "full of himself" and others to describe him, and those would be pretty accurate. He likes to think himself a lady killer, God's gift to all womankind, although is incapable of having a steady girlfriend. He likes to be the center of attention, and can't stand not being the best, always trying to one up others just to be on top, which has lost him a few friends in the past. Despite his cocky and narcissistic attitude, people do generally like to hang around with him, as David is always where the party is at.

He never does things halfway, always going all out. This will probably get him killed at some point, as things that he goes all out with include drinking, drugs, and other activities best done in moderation, or not at all. David hates pretty much any form of authority, which has lost him multiple jobs, made a strained relationship with his parents, and getting him in trouble with the law a few times. He always gets out without any big repercussions, but it's only a matter of time before some cop busts him while high on some sort of drug or alcohol.

History: David grew up in Steelport in a somewhat stressful household. Both of his parents had to work in order to support David and his sister Rachel, and his parents fought as all parents do, so the two siblings ended up closer to each other than either of their parents. David's past is essentially the epitome of a rebellious teenager, his activities including sneaking out, drinking, joy riding, smoking, etc. The list goes on and on. He somehow scraped by through school, getting barely passing grades but still did well enough to get his high school diploma.

After school he moved out of his parents home, more or less being kicked out, although the desire to have him gone was somewhat mutual. David never went to any sort of college, although he did go to a trade school to get some training in pipefitting, and got a job with a construction company running plumbing that paid well enough and didn't ask questions about his social life. He ended up renting out a small two bedroom apartment when his sister moved in with him, splitting the rent between the two of them. He had pressured her into leaving their parents and living with him, partially because he figured that a divorce was imminent and he didn't want her in the middle of that. An ulterior motive was that he was essentially excommunicated from the family and he desperately wanted to spend more time with his sister again, and more than just the two sneaking out to meet and complain about their parents.

David gained powers and became a metahuman after his third time of using Vertigo. He hadn't wanted his sister to try it, thinking it was far too hardcore of a drug for her to use, but he loved the massive high from it, despite the dangers.

Power: Light Manipulation

David is able to manipulate light and turn it into a physical form, a sort of "hard light". His powers in this regard depend highly on the amount of light around him at the time, the brighter it is the easier it is for him to form larger and more complicated forms. While sunlight makes it the easiest to work with, he can also use light from light fixtures, although the effect is harder. This hard light is bright and radiates light, although the light is slightly dimmer. Holding the light in a physical form requires some concentration and energy from him, and keeping the hard light form stable for more than a few minutes is difficult for him.

David is also able to absorb light sources such as light bulbs, storing the energy in himself. Using this energy to for a hard light form results in a much weaker substance than if he used the ambient light around him. This stored light can be used to radiate light out from himself, illuminating an area around him, or he can unleash all of the energy at once, resulting in a sort of flashbang. He can only store so much energy at once, only able to radiate light for about fifteen minutes, or one flashbang.

David can also see in blinding sunlight, even able to look into the sun with no damage to his eyes.

Woo! Brother and sister combo! I got some more interesting characters on the way as well, but these are the guys you are going to see the most of.

Now then, just to post the main IC thread, should be up sometime tonight so long as the mods do their jobs! :D

Not to nitpick, but you might want to redo David's CSS. Black letters on a black background are difficult to read.

Huh, they are showing up as white for me...strange. I'll fix that.

Also my computer got angry with me last night and crashed while 2/3 the way through my opening post, and Microsoft Word decided that it wasn't a file that needed to be recovered, so that was...great. Should have it up by tonight, barring any further computer problems.

It depends on your theme, the default font color is dependent on that so you always have to be sure to add a color tag in your CSS otherwise people will see the text as a different color.

Also... yay! I can't wait to post, though... I was never officially accepted... so I hope that I am...

Ahaha, yes, Retro you are accepted! On top of that, I finally got everything sorted out on my end. Took longer than I expected, but this weekend was insanely busy for me, weekends with weddings suck. XD

Beyond that, the main thread should be up whenever a mod accepts it, and so long as I am awake when that happens, I'll go ahead and give the first post detailing what your first moves should be.

I'm finally done with my SU. Took some time so I apologize for that. I had a lot of extracurricular going on for me for the past week and I actually had trouble in writing Sammie at all.
