Proposal: Pokemon Analogy

Hey there :) I come to you today with a series idea: the analogy of Pokemon!

They will be a series of articles talking about the the science or origin of Pokemon along with a comparison between the Pokemon and it's real life counterpart, typically on the basis of their structure/biology, species name, type, etc. With a little bit of speculation and trivia added in.

If you have any input, or maybe suggestions about a Pokemon or the title for this series, feel free to do so. Thank you for reading ^^

There's a similar series of articles on bulbapedia that I really enjoyed and I'd like to see something like that appear in the Daily. Do you have any particular Pokemon you'd like to focus on? You mentioned Solosis to me on Skype.

Solosis is what got my interested in making this series, so it will probably be the first article in the series. I'd also like to cover uncanny Pokemon comparisons to real life animals like Feraligatr, Zangoose, Surskit, Delphox & Mamoswine to name a few :)

Or maybe some plantlife, I'd like to tackle about Roserade not being an actual rose in the future :)

Well if we're talking a series, you'll need to do a seperate proposal for each article of the series. So for now why not start with Solosis. Then look at other things in the future. We'll see what other Daily staff think but I think this is a killer idea.

Ok, thank you GP :) ^^

Minor hijacking of thread warning! My only concern is that there may be some overlap with another series, 'What's that Pokemon?' (link to the one of Eevee). About three sections there seem to have common ground, which is close to half of that article. And if half the article is common, then I'd say we should just with creating the whole article (which is collab in nature).

The simple solution is "you can write those sections for the next 'What's that Pokemon', and others can write the other parts", but the situation is a bit less straightforward. That article is intended to be the first of a set, with following articles on e.g. battling advice, nicknames, artwork featuring the Pokemon, etc. And the plan was to hit each of the Eeveelutions next (and there's a lot) - then change Pokemon, hit all of its evolutions in turn, etc.

That said, I'd rather not needlessly remove an interest someone may have in say writing about Solosis - an article is an article, and activity is appreciated, even if there's an existing plan. So I'm willing to go for some middle ground, say for sake of example...:

    - Eevee series of articles (Who's that Pokemon, followed by nicknames, battling, etc articles)
    - Solosis series of articles ("")
    - Vaporeon ""
    - Duosion
    - Flareon
    - Reuniclus
    - Jolteon
    - Doduo

And so on. Maybe an advantage of that is to keep things fresher so it's not always "articles on a similar sort of Pokemon" right after the other. We could then already start on the Solosis articles as the last few Eevee articles are finished and posted, so we move straight to the next Pokemon and keep things moving.

Anyways, willing to hear thoughts on that.

I do get your point and I have to agree that it would be somewhat similar. I'd actually like it if I can do a Science/Analogy section to Who's that Pokémon, to get more interesting content in the article, and I'd take it as a practice for some experience in Pokemon Daily ^^ Thank you for the input, I do appreciate that making this a separate series has some advantages.

Do we really need such a strict schedule anyway? Personally I think it's pretty boring to have articles about Pokémon from the same evolutionary family so close to each other. Okay, admittedly Eevee is exceptional here, but I don't think there are much different things to tell about Duosion and Reuniclus than about Solosis, bar maybe competitive aspects in their different tiers.

I wouldn't be against a full shuffle with a completely different Pokémon each round (or alternate them with Eeveelutions for a while). Alternatively we can also cover an entire evolutionary family at once (in the non-Eevee case), or am I saying something crazy now?

That's a fair point with doing all of the related species one after the other potentially being boring.

With doing species all at once, I don't feel it's too crazy either, although maybe it's best to decide this on a case-by-case basis (e.g. I imagine a lot different could be said on say, Bagon, compared to its evolutions, especially given the drastic changes in design compared to the Solosis line). Articles may get pretty long (namely the WTP article) if they're featuring three Pokemon, which isn't a huge issues, just needs some organisational thought.

I do agree that we need to look at each article's species to see if it's worth having a different article for each different evolution stage. Solosis's and Doduo's lines are examples of ones where the body doesn't go through much change, and there wouldn't be enough to warrant a separate article for each stage. Bagon and others that go through major differences when they evolve do warrant separate articles, because there's enough differences in the forms.

Would the articles get too long? The only part that I can think of right now that would pad the length of the article is the battling advice part. Each evolution stage could come with a different strategy each.
