1st Annual Earth Day Rant

Great point Richard.

To put it simply, Oil ain't right.
I know "ain't" isn't a word.
It's an expression used to show that you mean business.

I think the the global civilization is horribly single-minded about keeping oil and oil substitutes that exacerbate ecosystem destruction. While pokefan's rant is buffoonile (perhaps my IQ is too low to find a real word to use here), his comments might actually be more appropriate than yours given the current state of affairs.

While you might be right, it's silly to be praising oil when the focus should be on envisioning and mapping out a new society not based on liquid fuels. Yes, this might mean radical changes in the lives of everyday Americans!

I'm not praising oil by any means. I'm merely pointing out that, without oil, we wouldn't be anywhere near the technological level that we are at today. That is a fact.

Did I say anywhere that I thought oil was the answer to all life's problems? No, and just because I think oil is important doesn't mean that I don't think alternate energy is important as well. I want to stop using fossil fuels as much as the next guy. The only thing I have a problem with is when people call oil a vile and evil substance through which no good can come out of. Sure, it's not the best for the environment, but would we rather trade the use of oil for having a functioning economy? I think not. Oil is very important.

And my comments were perfectly appropriate, thank you.

Pokefan's point seems to be exacly that we should be 'in the stone age', as you earlier put it; and by the way, the age of steam is which immediately precedes that of oil.

Wow. Just wow.

I get it. Honestly, I have some similar thoughts about the way people treat the world. The BIGGEST hypocrisy of them all is the way many humans go every day of their lives not caring about the environment and then, they think that ONE day is going to make up for it. As if that one day is going to make it all better. Forget Earth Day. Make Earth YEAR. And do it EVERY year. One day isn't going to make a difference with how much damage we've already done.

But, to say oil is completely bad is a bit... extreme. I'd rather drive to work than walk. It's about not using too much of it. I, too, think packaging is wrong. But, calling people idiots for it is... a bit rude. If you have an IQ that high, you should know how to express yourself in a more... how can I put it?... respectful way. Right now, you're sounding to me like those animal activists (not advocates; activists) that burn things to get their point across and do nothing but annoy people. If you want to make people make a difference explain it to them nicely. That's how I do it. You'd be surprised how many people listen.

I would definitely trade that, Aurafire.

Benji, when I start thinking about this stuff, I usually start getting agitated. I didn't really mean to burst out at everyone.

Someone just gave me a reputation comment saying that "I want to bomb his country". Whoever said I was going to bomb your house, or even your town! Unless you live in an oil refinery, which is HIGHLY improbable.

Also, wakachamo, I just happen to have FOUR "interesting books" right next to me, and I also finished an "interesting book" today. If you want me to name them and their authors, I will.

The Landry News by Andrew Clements
Spiderwick Chronicles, Book 3: Lucinda's Secret by Tony DiTerlizzi
Eggs by Jerry Spinelli
Eulalia! by Brian Jacques
Lord Brocktree by Brian Jacques

Anymore questions?

The people on this earth now are complete idiots.

I think you're being the complete idiot here. Go read an interesting book or something.

You need to rethink your ideals. Bombing things isn't the solution to everything. Plus, you've most definitely used anything related to fossil fuels at least once in your lifetime, making you a complete idiot as well. The fact that you blame all of this on the "male body" and the devil makes you look like someone who has absolutely no idea about what they're talking about.

Maybe you should grow up just a little bit, slap all that emoness off your face and wake up. Your post deserves every single bit of negrep that it can get.

I would definitely trade that, Aurafire.

Then...You're really not thinking straight or being rational. You'd basically be sentencing the human race to extinction. And no, that's not an over-statement. Oil is the life-blood of the economy, and we truly can't live without it.

Think of using oil as the lesser of two (necessary) evils. You may not like it, but it's going to happen.

I'm afraid you wouldn't ~have~ your books, or anything else really had it not been for oil and whatnot. You're talking about the backbone of our economy~! How could we have known at the beginning?! Technology, advanced by plastics and whatnot, is the answer!
Without this, you wouldn't be here; nor would really anyone else.
Absurd, much.

But.. oil is very flammable. n_n; If you bombed a refinery... D:
It'd be a lot of harm.
I am an 11 year-old boy with an IQ of 131.
IQ is irrelevant.
I'm amazed at how many people have posted back, it's crazy. And all you people trashing me for "not understanding" and "we'd be stuck in the stone age", um, I am an 11 year-old boy with an IQ of 131. Get your facts straight. You better be glad I'm in a good mood because I just beat Arcade Star Dahlia in Platinum. WATCH OUT FOR WHEN I'M MAD!
What do you mean? n_n;
These sentences do not correlate; you say you're certain we wouldn't be in the Stone Age and you say we say you don't understand, but your IQ is 131?
Look at history: The only reason we've advanced this far is via technology brought on by various unnatural production.
That's a fact, bb. u-u;

I would definitely trade that, Aurafire.
?!?!?!?
You would rather us suffer through a depression than thrive? You would rather America's morale [state of being] deplete and Unemployment rate sky rocket..? You wouldn't be here talking to us; you wouldn't even have a DS! Such things would be SOLD for money!

Um, excuse me, but, Karen, the last part of your post is wrong. If you had read the corresponding post correctly, it said:

Not that I would trade the use of oil AND a functioning economy for something else.

Also, by bombs, I mean water bottles filled with random foods that when mixed together and then shaken, will produce a massive fizz or explosion. Not the kind that is used in actual warfare. And I am being serious when I say that. I mixed in some lemonade and Grape soda today.

...goddamn, dude. Just stop talking, seriously. Come back in about 9 years when you can talk about stuff in a mature way without changing your mind every 5 minutes. Either you're an excellent troll, or you're somebody that's living on the brink of getting cut off by natural selection.

wakachamo, most of the "adults" in this world don't act even a bit mature. Also, I should warn you, I am stubborn, and I fight things to the death. No offense.

So that's an excuse for you to act like a mindless turd?

No one buys in a depression either.
The removal of economy makes us all independent tradesmen, while unsurprisingly we'd just re-invent our economy in short order.

From an eighteen year old with an IQ of 135, you'd best learn that a high intelligence quotient doesn't make you wise, nor does it grant you understanding.

For instance: you are obviously vehemently opposed to pollution. In that regard, I would ask you what exactly you're using to post on these forums, what kind of package it came in, and how much pollution was formed in its creation?

Orenji, you are totally right. Maybe you could finish this fight with wakachamo for me...?

EDIT: txteclipse, ordinarily I would be using my parents' laptop or my Ubuntu Linux-powered computer, but the backlight broke on the laptop, so I am using the laptop hooked to my computer monitor as an external screen.

Orenji, you are totally right. Maybe you could finish this fight with wakachamo for me...?
In reinventing our economies we'd come up with one for oil at some point, yet again.
And no, I've just PMed BeachBoy since this thread appears to be getting out of hand.

Well then, I suppose I shall venture off these forums, never to be seen again. Will someone remove my account?

I'll finish it. My weapon of choice? A lock. Because this thread obviously doesn't deserve the chance to stay open any longer.

We don't delete accounts here, fyi.
