2007 Banished Words List

Although saying the word ˝awesome˝ too often does seem like you have a bit lack of vocabulary.. I'm still going to use it, it commonly used among people, plus it doesn't bother me yet ^^

What I'm happy about is that they finally banished the saying ˝We're pregnant˝.. why? I think this quote says it preety much all: "I'm sure any woman who has given birth will tell you that 'WE' did not deliver the baby." -- Marlena Linne, Greenfield, Indiana.

And I guess it is okay that they've banished the phrases ˝Playing in theatres˝ and ˝Gone missing˝ because they are pointless once you think about it.. And ˝truthness˝just sounds weird, I mean this is the first time I've heard about it..

Oh thank God for banishing the stupid celebraty names.. God talk about self-centered, like they don't have all the attention already??!

But one thing I do not understand is.. (I have to say that English isn't my first language, but still) why have they banished the word ˝search˝?? My English teacher once said that English accpets almoust every new, stupid word they hear and at that time I thought of it a bit overreacting.. but now I'm beginning to consider that thought. I mean seriously ˝google˝ doesn not mean anything, it's just plain pointless. And the fact that they have replaced ˝search˝ with ˝google˝ only because of it's overly usage shows that maybe they haven't given a good thought about which words they should banish.

I agree with practically all the words listed there. Of course, awesome is one I'll still be using, but pwn is one that should have been banished ages ago. It's just...so annoying to even look at.

My brother and I used to say pwn all the time, wtf. Now I say own, and nothing else. D: This list is infecting my brain !

Let me tear this apart. And use the spoiler tag because it's cool.

Spoiler:

Overall? I don't agree with some of the list, and I seriously doubt that this little list will get some of these words ban. I mean, you aren't going to see companies stop milking off the i-anything fad anytime soon just because some university and a bunch of people say it's banned. Not when there's still tons of money to be made. We're greedy little things like that. :/

We can only hope though, hm?

i-ANYTHING

How many products in America have the I in front? It's quite a lack of imagination if you ask me.

Banning words like that is dumb, I mean I agree with some but, you can't say search?! Like I'm googling the T.V remote? What the heck!? Or I need to google the store for a gameboy.... And why ban Awesome? Awesome is so... uh.... Awesome... And how would Fosters home for Imaginary friends work. I mean, 30% of the words used in the show is the word awesome! (Slight exageration...)

TRUTHINESS – "This word, popularized by The Colbert Report and exalted by the American Dialectic Society's Word of the Year in 2005 has been used up. What used to ring true is getting all the truth wrung out of it." -- Joe Grimm, Detroit, Michigan.

Nooooooooooooooooo~! I can't believe that they banned Truthiness! Stephen Colbert shall be avenged!

Not to mention that "awesome" was banned. That's not awesome. =P

I like the word pwn, it's pwnsome. (I pronounce it "own" anyway though, so sif matter.)

I didn't think I used the word awesome that much, but my dad claims I used it 14 times in a 10-minute conversation with my friend on the phone XD. He's prone to exaggeration though.
