The Showcase of the Haunted Costumes Halloween Challenge 2021
General Rules
• This Challenge can be completed on any main series Pokémon game. Additionally, any ROM hack or fan game completed through 8 gym badges and an Elite Four counts as well.
• Players of games in the Alola region will not face gyms. Instead, they proceed to a new room after every Grand Trial, as well as after four specific Trials: the Trial of Verdant Cavern, the Trial of Wela Volcano Park, the Trial of the Abandoned Supermarket, and the Trial of Vast Poni Canyon.
• The Challenge is completed once you beat the region's Elite Four and the credits fully roll. Yes that means beating AZ or Brendan or running from Koko if that's the type of thing your game makes you do.
• This Challenge runs from October 4th to October 31th, 2021.
• Legendary and Mythical Pokémon are banned from this challenge, unless specified. Pokémon Amie, Refresh, and the EXP Share are allowed in all games in which they exist.
• If you need to evolve a Pokémon through trading, feel free to do so. Otherwise, no trading is allowed. Similarly, hacking or trading in items is allowed for evolutions, provided it is unavailable before the Elite Four in your game.
• Coordinating over on Discord is highly encouraged! If you'd like to join us over there, the best channel to do this is #pokemon-gaming, where a thread has been created specifically for this event (thanks Moderoids!) ♥
Fashion Rules So what's going on here?
• When a new challenger signs up, they will be given 🪙 12 Coins. These coins are used to purchase Pokémon-themed Clothes and Costumes from the resident Gothitelle's Shop...
• ...and will cover up one or more body parts: Head, Body, Legs.
• The clothes are divided into four groups, depending on how many Coins they cost: Basic (2 Coins), Decent (3 Coins), Fancy (5 Coins) and Haute Couture (8 Coins). But let's be real, it's easier to just refer to their cost~
The more costly clothes are, the more body parts they'll usually cover.
• You can buy Clothes at any time, even during segments, by stating it in this thread and specifying two things: the prize in Coins of the desired item, and one Body Part that you want it to cover. At that point, the item you'll get will be... chosen at random from the eligible ones and get delivered to you. Build up your collection!
• Something you may wanna know: the higher the price you set, the more likely you are to get clothes that cost less than that. Blame Gacha games ok?
Spoiler:
If you're interested, the math we do will be...
• 2 Coins: 100% Basic
• 3 Coins: 90% Decent, 10% Basic
• 5 Coins: 70% Fancy, 20% Decent, 10% Basic
• 8 Coins: 50% Haute Couture, 35% Fancy, 15% Decent
• You'll love to know that each of these items has a rule attached to them. Why? Well... clothes need to be embraced, don't they?
Ok, fine, but now I wanna start playing!
• At the start of each Segment, including your very first one where you get your Starter, you have to choose an outfit. State which clothes are you going to wear and rock that look! Which means, follow the rules that each item has.
• Of course, it's just one item per Body Part.
• If by the end of a segment you have succeeded in following all the rules and you've worn something over all of your Body Parts, you'll get some coins back! If you left some space (for example, no headwear), you will get no points regardless of what other rules are in place. Use those coins well!
I get coins back? How does this work?
• Of course you get coins back, so you can keep buying! If you've proudly worn all of your clothes until the end of the segment, you'll get back the same amount of coins as their combined value. So for example... if you have 3 Basic clothes, one for each Body Part, you get 6 🪙 when you beat the Gym Leader or Champion.
• There's a catch though! Did you know that clothes can make up a Set? If you wear all of the pieces of a set, the amount of coins you would get at the end of the segment is doubled, and you also get a positive effect during your current segment. Even more coins? Some immunity to rules? Things like those.
• Yes, that applies also to clothes that cover every part of the body. They're a one item set, and they are... a thing, yes. Some of the rarest clothes are like this.
Anything else?
• You are allowed to trade clothes with other players, if you both pay up 3 🪙 to Gothitelle. You know, delivery costs. Players can organize trades... or decline them at any time! But in order for your inventories to be updated accordingly, please let people know about your trades.
• Please keep in mind that, if someone is wearing a costume for their current segment, the trade will have to wait until that person completes said segment and puts that item back in their Closet.
• To make sure you've read the rules, your favourite Halloween costume is a mad scientist.
• You can calculate your own Coins Balance at every segment and keep playing or buying clothes! But just in case...
• We'll try to keep records of everyone's balance and closet size right in the next post, where the Player Board is.
• If you need anything, feel free to contact either of us - Eleanor and Janp - here or on Discord!
One last thing... how do I win?
• Having fun is the biggest win.
• Ok, that's definitely not enough for everyone, so... just know that there are a few Awards ready to be assigned at the end of the challenge! The biggest ones will be about your final Balance, the Value of your closet or the amount of most Sets completed but there are also some secret awards you may be able to get.
Oh, and... some new info: here is the list of all the Set Bonuses!

👗 Victreebel Leaf - Fancy - Head
You may only use Pokémon that were available to catch (in your game of choice) before beating Gym 3.
👗 Lickilicky Onesie - Fancy - Every Slot
You may only use Pokémon who have a tongue that is clearly visible your game of choice's front sprite. Pay 5 Coins at the end of your segment, to negate the rule of one of the clothes you'll wear in your next segment. Only works if you're wearing 2 clothes or more.
👗 Ambipom Tails - Fancy - Legs
During this segment, you can't spend money at Pokémon Marts, and you can't use any item you pick up in-game until the segment is over (Pickup, Thief or Covet are allowed).
Additional Notes for common rules: Note for some rules, such as "At least one of your Pokémon must know this move" or "Your Pokémon must be this color": catching said Pokémon and adding it to the team during the current segment is OK only if this happens during your first segment. For segments after this one, you must have a Pokémon that fulfills the requirement already in your team or box.
So I think I do this, get some clothes and then start doing the segments, right?

Ok, given the rules I have, I'm already going to buy more stuff before actually starting the game...
2 more Basic clothing, one for Body and one for Legs! That brings my balance to nothing at all but I'm fine with taking the risk :)
Update #1 - Badges 1/8
For the segment I chose... well... the only clothes I could wear :P
It meant I had to switch train Bidoof up to level 15 just to get Water Gun (as the only move I could use was Ember on Chimchar). I probably would have been fine without it, but now I at least have an extra pokemon I can use in future segments (also I caught and boxed a bunch of pokemon just in case for future rules).
I wore 3 pieces of Decent clothing (and followed the rules) which should put be back up to 12 Coins. I'll try rolling for Haute Couture for the Head (-8 Coins).
For this update I decided to wear...
👗 Tsareena Crown - Basic - Head
You may only use Pokémon with 72 or less base Speed.
👗 Hawlucha Wings - Basic - Body
At least one of your Pokémon must know a 2-turn attacking move, or Bide, if available.
👗 Slowking Tail - Basic - Legs
For each trainer battle, you may only send in as many Pokémon as your opponent has. If you happen to break the rule, you can continue the battle, but you'll have to pay 1 Coin.
My team after beating the Dominant Raticate in Verdant cavern is... Brionne, lv. 17 • Yungoos, lv. 16 • Zorua, lv. 15 • Magnemite, lv. 13
So. I obviously decided that raising a Yungoos up until level 16 was way easier than raising an Inkay up to level 43. It was still a few levels past what the game considers the "normal level curve" though, because I did have to make some grinding on wild Pokémon to get to that point, and by that point I was clearly getting over-levelled compared to the dominant Raticate.
I... still didn't care about that though, and knowing that a strong Pokémon was needed anyways due to that Slowking rule, I got my starter to evolve altogether. Honestly, worth it, because Raticate went down very quickly with just a few Disarming Voice attacks.
The problem is that in order to get there without sacrificing coins, I've had to waste a lot of in-game money. I've found myself at least two times with my Popplio in front of a Pokémon who knew Foliage, and all that could save me was a spam of Baby-doll eyes and Potions (I'm sure I've used at least... 12 ok?). That surely won't help me when the time to buy clothes comes up, something I'm still a bit too keen on - case in point, I changed my hair style and lipstick for $5 000 without even thinking twice, hehe!
But what's done is done, I have completed my first segment. I know I have an obvious Fighting-type weakness if not for Brionne, but I'm hopeful that I can find a few Flying and Fairy-types before the fight with Hala comes up! I'll have to decide which clothes I'll wear, still, or whether or not I'll buy more items in game, but for now... please let me enjoy my 6 Coins, it's all I have now
👗 Gliscor Ears - Decent - Head
Gifted Pokémon may no longer be used. You may only use your Starter until you can catch a wild Pokémon that can replace it.
👗 Magneton Component #2 - Decent - Body
At least one of your Pokémon must know a Defense-raising move (moves that raise defense as a secondary effect, such as Steel Wing, are not allowed).
👗 Roserade Leggings - Decent - Legs
You may only challenge a Gym Leader / Trial or Kahuna / Champion if your total amount of money is less than $8 000.
Whatever I picked during the Zigzagoon battle matters not, since I boxed that as soon as I caught a Wurmple. But I picked the bird in case you were curious.
Of course, before actually starting the game I had to battle Brendan with Torchic, which was very easy.
Most of this segment was grinding, so I could evolve both Wurmple I caught and get Harden for the Magneton rule. It was going to be only one Wurmple at first, but RNG decided it was going to be a Dustox and I had forgotten Marill could be caught earlier as well and didn't count on finding a Seedot either, so I thought I needed Beautifly for Roxanne, since it knows Absorb.
RNG was pretty crazy during this segment, though, not only because I did find a Seedot or because the second Wurmple I caught evolved into Beautifly, but because I found around eight or nine Ralts while I was grinding, and those are the rarest encounter after Seedot. I caught two of them. Screenshots about this below, didn't screenshot the first, fifth and one or two more because it got tiring:
Spoiler:
Now Roxanne, was way too easy, even though I was panicking about her earlier. I started the battle with Parsee the male Ralts, but he didn't do anything significant and fainted against the first Geodude. Then I sent out Aecor the Seedot, who tanked every attack with Harden and then just spammed Bullet Seed against her pokémon. Nosepass took more time to deal with, but it was just as easy as the two Geodude.
This is my team so far. Mouse, Aecor, and the two bugs have Defense boosting moves (I'll put their movesets in a spoiler below for verification), and there's also my money before beating Roxanne for the Roserade rule.
Spoiler:
I managed to follow the three rules I was given, so I should be back to 12 coins. However, I also want to go crazy and want to buy two pieces of fancy clothing, one for the body and one for the legs. This puts me back at 2 coins.
I have a question. Two of my rules are that "You may only use White and Blue Pokémon" and "At least one of the Pokémon on your team must know at least one of the moves that are boosted by Strong Jaw". The only Pokemon available to me in the first section that fit both rules is the Riolu line, but they only learn Bite and Crunch through egg moves. What should I do?

Hm, given that patrat also exists (meaning, a Strong Jaw-boosted move is technically available to you, it's just conflicting with another rule) your best bet would probably be to trade away one of your items or buy something else, like I did!
Case in point, I could offer you my own Lurantis Scythes for your Gliscor Wings - that would allow you to get Fury Cutter on Dewott at level 20, a Pokémon that I suppose would have picked anyways since it's blue color :)

If you guys don't mind, I also want to ask something about this rule

For segments after this one, you must have a Pokémon that fulfills the requirement already in your team or box.
Say after the first segment, I have Sobble, Rookidee and Nickit. I receive a new item that asks for only Yellow Pokemon; if I read the rule correctly it means that I can't equip this new item, right?
But if my new item asks for Blue Pokemon only, I can box Nickit and continue with Sobble and Rookidee, and I assume I can also catch new Pokemon provided that they are all Blue?
