Suggestion: A Member Feedback Topic

If we're gonna bring back the Member Appreciation thread, it HAS to stay. We've had more than one thread like that in CCC not terribly long times ago, I know Aerial Ace made an "Admiration" thread that I think is dead and only got a couple posts, then there was that "PC Role Models" thread which got quite a few more (and I think it's not past the dead date yet). Bottom line, if we want to remake that thread, can we just sticky it like we have the Staff Feedback thread so we don't get over 9000 threads like it? I don't think it's necessary for me to have to write ANOTHER paragraph about why I adore certain members here to pieces who I have more than once. :P

This. I like the idea of a member appreciation thread better than a feedback thread, because it filters out the negativity. With staff negativity is kinda necessary and comes with the territory, but it'd be unfair to have something like that for ordinary members (unless they're being extremely unpleasant and/or acting outside of the rules, in which case private messages and reporting is probably the best way to go).

But it should be sticky, so it doesn't get duplicated too much like it apparently did before.

But...why not just VM/PM a person to show your appreciation?

Does everyone really need to know about it? Just seems useless to me. I personally couldn't care less who gets mentioned in that kind of thread.

A member appreciation thread doesn't sound to bad, at least that won't become a spam/flame pit.

Well is any thread on a forum "necessary" per se? It's just a conversation topic like any other. As long as it didn't spawn any tension or negativity I don't think it'd do any harm.

Last I checked I can't VM or PM a person about what everyone thinks about Amazon Fire TV.

I can definitely VM said person to tell them how much I like their post, though.

There's only one reason why someone would want to show their appreciation for a member by posting somewhere, and that's to have it seen publically. Really the only person that your appreciation should matter to is the person you express it towards. This is why I don't see the fallback to telling them personally. To attest to that, we have always allowed threads in which permit a user to prompt members of PC to show their appreciation for other members on the community. Threads like this already exist (including one you've created), this thread allows a person to express their romantic feelings for another member on PC, this one, which you made, allows a member to say who they look up to. There's nothing stopping you creating a thread of the same manner in which you express your appreciation for a member, while you ask others to do the same. If you're looking for a reference trough, such a thread existed back in February.

So I say go ahead! Make a member appreciation thread, but there's no need for an official one. You also have the option of posting to your blog. The point of a staff feedback thread is to allow us to improve how we manage the forums, we take all good comments and bad ones. But such a thread for members would be unnecessary in the line of feedback. Appreciation thread in CCC are fine, and in blogs and so forth, however there would be no need to throw negative feedback into the mix. While staff have things to improve on so that your experience as a user can be better, giving member feedback shouldn't be something we do here. It's not our job to offer other members critique so that they can improve their mental conditioning.

Keep it positive, keep it in CCC, and go ahead and remake the "Admiration" thread I linked earlier with your own twist on it if you like. No need for anything "official".
