Yes, another british band but the next entry will end that run. Well, probably, I've not really been good keeping to a plan of 'feature this next' thus far. =p
The band this time is Coldplay, one of my favourite bands (although I am not as fond of some of their newer stuff, but that's another topic). There's a lot of songs I'd be happy to feature here by them, but I might as well go with this one which I have played an awful lot recently and one that to my knowledge does not get much airplay (so not Clocks or Fix You or the like). Not necessarily the one I enjoy the most by them but hey! It is a good representation of the band in part imo.
Headphones recommended! That way you get all the sounds.

It's an older song from their debut album 'Parachutes', which also has a few songs I really like. If this blog continues for a long while I foresee multiple entries from Coldplay, haha.
Anyways, it is a fairly chill song but it still gets a lot of emotion through the sound. It's how Chris Martin sings best imo; not too energetically but like so. Just look at the chorus - all it is is a repetition of 'I say oh', but the way he does it gets shivers down my spine at times. It helps that the music backs it up too, of course. =p The song starts off rather tamely but I think the set up is right here for this.
Lyrics establish the bittersweet nature of it too; it's not really a happy song as some relationship of sort as gone bad, but there's still some happiness there in the chorus and 'Yeah I saw sparks'. I suppose it's also ambigious enough to allow one to have their own minor takes on it; does it actually end on a bad or good note?
As said above it's not a song I would call my most favourite from Coldplay though, and I'd put that down partly to the ending sounding a bit off to me; it doesn't quite end as satisfyingly as the middle part did imo. Ah well; it's still a very nice listen imo.
One thing that does confuse me is that sound in the first second; that stray, sharp note. A guitar string being flicked? Or a dog being kicked? We may never know.
And I think a claim to fame here is that it was in Wedding Crashers? Eh. =p

Spoiler:
Did I drive you away
I know what you'll say
You say, oh, sing one we know
But I promise you this
I'll always look out for you
That's what I'll do
I say oh
I say oh
My heart is yours
It's you that I hold on to
That's what I do
And I know I was wrong
But I won't let you down
(Oh yeah, yeah, yes I will)
I say oh
I cry oh
And I saw sparks
Yeah I saw sparks
And I saw sparks
Yeah I saw sparks
Sing it out
La, la, la, la, oh
La, la, la, la, oh
La, la, la, la, oh
I know what you'll say
You say, oh, sing one we know
But I promise you this
I'll always look out for you
That's what I'll do
I say oh
I say oh
My heart is yours

And I saw sparks
Yeah I saw sparks
And I saw sparks
Yeah I saw sparks
Sing it out
La, la, la, la, oh
La, la, la, la, oh
La, la, la, la, oh
