A n00b training center?

True, that is a problem, but if we make a thread that links to all the simple questions such as that, mod's would be able to lock or delete the thread made and thus delete the post count that they would have earned. Fair enough if they ask a question that has not yet been answered.

I was thinking that making a thread where the members have to name rules and learn the FAQ to be able to earn post count...sort of like a game that revolves around the rules, so that they actually read the rules to be able to answer the questions to earn post count to be able to gain access to the main forums.

But the thing is, we have sticked threads as is with FAQ and all sorts of things. They won't read them, if they can start a thread then they will.

And naming all the rules would be a bit hard. I'm sure not even all the Mods could name all the main PC rules. So members and n00bs naming them is kind of out of the question.
And on top of that, knowing the rules and going by the rules is two different things.

No no no, not naming all the rules XD...just...say now...hmm, pretty hard to explain:

Poster one posts a question: Name one thing that is not acceptable on the forums?
Poster two posts and answer and a question: Flaming. What does Spam stand for?

Sort of like that.

I can see where your coming from from the whole posting threads...that would be a problem...unelss we disable their ability to make threads there, I really can't think of anything, but disabling that would mean they cannot ask for help...which is the whole point of the Q and F forum XP

Unless we disable post count there and create a sub forum with these games or something or other.

Anyways, it was just an idea, and it does seem a hard thing to accomplish if not done from the very start.

Personally, I like the apprentice idea. We give people who may have problems understanding spelling, rules, and inter-member relationships the option of getting a "Tutor," some older, more experienced member who has been approved as being a non-n00b. They go through this until the newbie decides that he or she doesn't need a tutor anymore. If a member ever says that it's their first time on a forum, we could kindly point them to the Tutor board. ^^

Of course, this isn't ever going to work. ^^' Alternatively, we could apply the same idea to just the HOTS, to deal with the people who have never sprited before but start a shop anyway.

Okay, I haven't been long gone. But I was here long enough that there is a n00b problem ^^;;;

We could establish something like, some flash video for people. But that takes skill. And n00bs will never, ever learn.

I don't think you all understand. Lately a lot of less intelligent members have been classified as noobs. While they aren't actually noobs, I believe these are the groups of people Max was referring to.

*pokes Andy* Meh .. fine, whatever you say. ^_^ But I have handled a few n00bs, not as many of you that for sure. >_>

Meh.. Tyler, are you talking about newbies? o.o; Or meh .. n00bs that are well, eh, not n00bs?

And who, exactly, would sign up to take part in a "NooB training center"?

I don't think most n00bs will come to a "n00b training center." Some might be offended by it. I haven't seen a lot of n00b problems lately anyway.

Having a n00b training center would be like us teating them like dogs, there's no use really, even if we tried, it wouldn't make a difference.
I guess you could say you could reccomend it to newbies, but if they don't like it, it's tough, really.
we treat dogs with love and resepect o.o;

Eh...I agree that it would probably not work. I mean, come on, how many people would willingly confess to themselves, let alone others, that their clueless N00Bs? The problem as I see it (And this primarily concerns N00B RPers because those are the ones I have most experience with) is that they just go straight ahead and post without bothering to read anything, usually not even the comments that mods/other staff members give them when they break rules etc., and as such, I fail to see why they would listen to whoever would be in charge of this N00B training center. I think it's pretty much in the nature of a N00B not to listen to anyone smarter or more experienced than themselves, and that tends ot limit the amount of people they listen to quite severely. -_-

I actually like dogs though

XD Doggies..

Fine. Rejected suggestion, lets forget this then and move on or something. ^^;;

Naw..n00bs are n00bs because they want to be. I doubt any n00b who is really, honestly spamming their head off is someone who needs help. So like said before, it'd be pointless. XD. We don't need to waste our time. If we see a person who honestly needs help, we'll know who they are. ^^

I might be new, but, N00bs are n00bs. They will never change. Unless, it's someone who didn't understand the rules... and then as a result, s/he will SPAM. Unlike n00b that person is likely to change.

Still, the'll be offended by that, anyways. ^^;;

While reading this whole thread, I thought of a few ideas... Since I've never been an admin of vBulletin, I don't really know if there is an option for the following things or not...

1. Make a default skin for newly registered members (and as a fun skin for more advanced members :D) that shows several pop-ups (those kinds that appear in DON'T CLICK HERE pages of websites) telling them about stuff each time they go to a page. This only lasts for 3 posts or so (mention that in the pop-ups too). After 3 posts, give them access to the rest of the skins.
Remember, I said I don't know if there is an option or not for this.

2. I forgot while typing number 1... Doh!

It would be better if they got a PM when they sign up. They read the PM and it contains the basic rules (including check an individual forum's rules before posting rule)
Just a thought *walks away feeling proud of self*

We were all wrongfully dubbed 'n00bs' at least once. We also get more familiar with rules through experience alone. If PC has successfully found a way to dwindle down the number of 'n00bs,' I'd like to hear it~
