True but people rarely use those. What if we had a box like mods or supporters with it?*shot*

I can't use these as mine goes to "Donator Tier 1!

As you would need to change your usergroup to the proper usergroup. You would be a gym leader were as I am Pokemon-de-Superb.

yes.. the supporters (bloggers or staff too) can have multiple usergroups and choose which to display..

I'm not saying we have to provide a colored name after so many posts or whatever, but perhaps a veteran Public usergroup would be cool. So you could possibly provide a 'colored' name in regular font. We could have a choice of colors and/or userbars, chosen by simply joining the public usergroup with the color/userbar of our choice. We can steer clear of staff colors to prevent confusion as well, and it's not hard to pick colors that will be compatible with 95% of the themes.

Though I will stay, the requirement to be able to join these groups would be that you'd need something like a certain number of posts or must have been at PC for a set number of years. (sort of like the veteran emblem)

Personally I see no reason why we can't have member colors too. Admins have bold+italic, mods have Bold only, supporters have italic only, and regular users have normal names. I think there's potential for allowing supporters and certain members different color choices, or rankings set upon certain criterion.

Thank you you summed up everything I wanted to say and clearer.

Yeah, and we could test out the whole idea on the supporters, by rolling it out to them first to see if it causes much trouble. Then, if it works out for the supporters, we could roll out color choices to members meeting certain criteria.

We could offer some color choices to different supporter tiers at first, like tier 1 has say for example...3 colors to choose from, tier 2 has 6, ectetera.

Or we could choose a few colors, assign some sort of accomplishment to each color, like for example a Pink username would mean you've reached a set number of posts, been at PC for a certain time, or have completed some requirement to get it.

We don't have to make them easy as cake to get.

If it were achievements then possibly the box could say a brief 3-4 word thing on what the color is for. And it is pretty snazzy to have a colored name. But anything else then the normal mod colors or supporter would be fine to diffincierate no? I wonder...

I'm pretty sure that anyone would be able to tell the difference. besides, we could avoid being too close to the staff colors anyhow.

True. I think though both of us are a bit over our heads on this.

I've thought about a senior member group here but never suggested it since I don't believe it'd work too well with supporters being the effective equivalent... though that was probably covered earlier.

Personally as a normal member I don't want a formatted name.

But technically what we are now sugessting is a sort of system with usergroups. At least I'm thinking that way.

I generally don't like this idea.
Not thinking in terms of the fact that I'm a staff member, as a regular member, I just think it's not necessary.
I can totally see this becoming something similar to the rep issue too.

"People are discriminating against me because of the color of my name!"
"I don't like this color, so we should change it!"

Then there'd be the argument about how it "puts members on different levels" and it'd just a big headache and a general waste of brainpower and time.

^ My two cents.

^ I couldn't have said it better myself, we already have the colour discussions about every other month with supporters, and there's always going to be those who feel that they just have to have a different colour. The same reason multi-colours gets stopped for any other group is that each colour requires a separate user group, there's already over 14 different groups as we are adding more is just a mental breakdown waiting to happen.

If we go by posts, spamming will happen more often so people (who don't know the rules) will get the colour they like.

In my eyes, it's just pointless. We normal members don't need coloured names to feel special. We can just put what we feel in our signatures and make it a certain colour.

This seniority thing is crap, I'm sorry. You've got your Veteran Emblem... You people have blogs, colored profiles. Do you need more? You make it sound like people with 4 years at PC are somehow the better members by default. There are mods who earned their colored usernames and positions in months.

I sometimes appreciate a good new member more than just another old member who has had all those years to earn his recognition and didn't, just to give up in the end trying to get more privileges for free.

If you guys want your colored name, either start giving something, doing some good for this community instead of asking for more perks... Or move on to a different site.

You're assuming the wrong thing. I'm not for this idea because I feel senior to, or want to feel senior to anyone. I've already got a colored username myself anyway, and I'm content with the current color most of the time anyhow.

Most of you naysayers in this thread sound just like that too. I'm just suggesting this because it'd be a fun feature to have, and it'd soothe some of the supporters' clamoring for a color change every so often. As far as I'm concerned, it could be a supporter only perk.

I'm all for improvements and changes in supporter perks for one reason: It brings in new donations, and attracts new users. Already we have seen an uptick in supporters donations, and some even donate just for a new account!

You've got somewhat of a point, but it's not a waste of brainpower nor time. You point out the fact that it's going to bring elitism to the table, but it's BEEN HERE FOR A WHILE!

I could rant for hours on how many different little 'cliques' here are elitist, and even staff is guilty of a little elitism here and there. It wont cause a total meltdown.

I only suggested that it eventually be made available to regular members too, so they dont have to feel like they're being excluded. Besides, rules can be added to make things 'fair'. Personally, I think trolling should be infractable anyway

As for the usergroups angle, more usergroups wont harm a fly, and it wont break anything.

On the spam angle, it doesn't have to be a post requirement, Staff can moderate and decide who gets the privilege if needed. It would not hurt to make sure requests to join each group are moderated by a staff member.

As far as the emblem angle goes, the emblem system is useful, and cool. I'm not saying that it's not enough, I'm just trying to bring more to PC by supporting this idea.

I've been a supporter of any half decent idea myself for a while now. It's just the way I try to help around here, by hanging out in CQ&F and reading posts here, just to see what ideas may come by.

I will admit, this idea is tricky to implement fairly, but it's not as hard as you make it out to be. It bothers me when I see good ideas shot down by staff, and a lot of times, it feels like very little thought is being put into these ideas before they're rejected.

I'm not accusing anyone in staff of being lazy or anything, I know you all each work really hard, but I've always felt that progress is a lot better than resisting change.

Colored names are to differentiate staff members, and members who have donated, from regular members.
So, regular members will not have colored names anytime soon.

/end thread

I would reply to the points you said Pachy, but honestly, the point I just stated kills the need for that.
And evaluating members one by one as to whether they deserve a colored name? I really can't think of a better way to waste time then that. :I

huh what? Wasn't this supposed to be for regular members? Don't you already have a few perks? Why do you want more?

Yeah and no one would listen to your self-important whining expect for the purpose of pointing out your mistakes. ohoho, and you managed to slip a stab at the staff in there!
I only suggested that it eventually be made available to regular members too, so they dont have to feel like they're being excluded.
Most of the forum consists of regular members, so I think they'll feel plenty of love.
Personally, I think trolling should be infractable anyway
Off-topic.

Actually, judging by your previous statements, you just want more perks for yourself.

You're not as important as you think you are.
It bothers me when I see good ideas shot down by staff, and a lot of times, it feels like very little thought is being put into these ideas before they're rejected.
"OH NO THE STAFF!!!"
Man, look at the first posts to this thread. Not many people even cared for the idea, since it is unnecessary. The only staff member to post on the first page was Steve, and his response was fair.

Then you come in here on your high horse and start suggesting different ideas that benefit you, as a supporter. You changed the subject and suggestion to suit yourself.
I'm not accusing anyone in staff of being lazy or anything, I know you all each work really hard, but I've always felt that progress is a lot better than resisting change.
lol, "CHANGE".

LOKI, I DID IT FOR YOU ♥
