I've got an idea that I think it would make all those memebers that want to get their names changed badly. Well here are some ideas I've got:

    1. Each name cost will cost you 1,000(or more. well thats the staffs choice) posts which will be automatically deducted from your posts.
    2. You can only change it once every 3 months, which I think it better.

Well this was just an idea I got. Its just so that it can make things easier.

If we install a points hack, yes. Otherwise that's stupid. Your postcount is supposed to show how many posts you made.

My comment on your first suggestion.

Posts aren't treated as money or tokens, and shouldn't be either. Also, that idea could also lead to people spamming so they could increase their post count. I wouldn't recommend it. And plus, if posts get deducted, they'd most likely get deleted, all for a simple name change?

The six month rule is working perfectly. People shouldn't really have to pay 1000 posts for a name change when all they have to do it wait. Also it would pretty much muck up post count x_x

    XP

Good suggestion though. I have known forums that have a point count for every post you do and for donations for good posts, witht hat they can buy name changes. But I don't think it would work here for some reason. We have gone to long without it and the six month rule is doing fine.

Well it was just a thought I had. Yes, guess your right.

Yeah I've seen in other forums that have those points

I've always wished PC would install a points hack. We could use that in place of postcount, except staffers could take away from it if you've been spamming. But that idea is kinda pointless now.

But automatic is quite easy. There was a name changing hack I saw on vB.org a while back, that allows people to change their name and even lets you specify a wait period between the changes. o.o

    ...yeah.

i recon name chaning is about people who just joined and don't really like thier user names,i liked Rayquaza975,but it just got to boering i guss so i decide to change, dat and evey 1 got my 975 part wrong
    so yeah....

I saw something simmilar on Adventchildren forum. Only you could purchse multiple things through theese points such as name changes, colour request and such. I don't like the idea of anything but a name change though. But Ty's method of deducting points for spam and such is actually quite a good idea.

yeah maybe we should have something like coins

Not for sprite shops that would just throw the whole thing outta balance because people would spam and stuff to get sprite requests like signomi said

Ture but wat i meant is u have to pay for the spitres and then u earn up 2 buy stuff like E-CARDS,Screen savers, stuff like dat!

Points would quickly become the new reputation; it's out of the question.

Regarding name changing, your identity on a forum is never something to be taken lightly; treating it like a throwaway caprice only serves to continually re-color others' perceptions of you. In other words; if done more frequently than six months it unnecessarially confuses newer members, doesn't encourage quality name choice, and takes time away from AAs/SAs.

If it's not broken, don't fix it.

    1000 Posts/coins or whatever to get a name change? o_O;;
I havent even got to three hundred yet!
I mean, I think it would just lead to spamming so people could get their name changed. and, People with alot of Coins/posts would just continuously get their name changed, as soon as possible. I mean, with out the post count thing, I,ve been wanting to change my name to Shakami for awhile now. I think about 4 months before name changes would be reasonable O_O

    That would kill me. D:

I still think we should just be allowed to change our own names. >__> Or if not, not make the waiting period between names be 6 months. D: I go through 'phases' of what I like, and I'd want my name to reflect that :< And I know quite a few people who are the same way.

Kaga has a point, your user name is who you are. Pick a name you like and stick with it. You won't want to change your name if you pick one you like.
And before any of you says "Yeah, sure. I bet you'd like a name change but if you changed it then no one would know who you are" (or something along them lines). I happen to like my username (if I could then I might have changed it to Andy since it's my name), I picked a username I liked and stuck with it. How many of you know I had this username for almost 3 years now. 3 long years I had "Arcanine" as my username. That's what happens when I pick a name I like.

The system we got now is just fine. I don't want a hack where members can change their names whenver they want (even if it had a limit on it). There's a list that has the name changes, if members could change their names that list wouldn't be updated. And this whole idea of "Post Count for name change" or "Points for a name change" isn't good. About the only way you could get points is from posts (and all of you done know how we get the post count higher). There would be tons of pointless posts just to get a few more points, it'll turn into the next rep "OH look at me! I got more points then you!".

And the reason why we got a 6 month limit is because of 2 reason.
1: The Staff doesn't need to come on and change the name of the same person just because his/her mood changes (and I know a good many members that does that).
2: 6 Months is a limit to also make members think a little about the name they want. Why would you have a stupid name you don't like or will get bored of in a few weeks if you got to wait 6 months to change it again?
6 Months is a good limit, if anyone wants a different name within that time (under 6 months) then start a new account.

SPPf sets the limit at 2 months. They WILL ban duplicate accounts if they are found to be one in the same.
Of course, there's always trolls like listenbuddy from Traverse City who will register as many stupid names as they can just to get attention.
On the Michigan Buzzboard, MW doesn't mind multple accounts at all. He apparently won't do name changes. There's plenty of people there with more than one name (including myself, and some other top-ten posters)

The war on trolls will never end, no matter how strict you are.

PC isn't SPPF though. They're two diffrent forums. There's diffrent members, and diffrent problems.

It might be a little lengthy, but at least we do name changes these day. We used to have to re-register.
    And deducting post count wouldn't be a good thing, I think. And points would bring spamming to get those points. ^^;

Everybody keeps saying that. People mention SPPf for comparison sake, it's not taboo to have something the same as them.
