The Quoting Challenge!

August 21 - September 2nd!

It's time to stop post-and-go-ing and start conversing! It's easy. Just quote people and comment on what they've said instead of just posting your own reply to any thread. If you're lucky, they'll quote you back and you'll actually have a conversation in the thread omg. So cool. As long as it's somewhat kind of related to the thread's topic, of course. Somewhat.

Now you have a golden opportunity to motivate yourself to learn to quote and converse with people in the Treehouse! Or whatever the name of this place actually is these days.
Enter The Quoting Challenge^TM!

It's easy:

Click on threads from the index to enter them.

When you feel like replying to a thread, make sure to quote somebody else and comment/reply to their post!

You can't just quote people without actually replying/commenting on what they said.

Save links to posts you've made in a "master post" of yours in this very thread. I'll look them through now and then to see that you didn't cheat (where would even the fun in that be, smh). Keep track of how many quotes you've made!

If you quote several people in one post, it's each quote that counts - not each post (:

What prizes?

For 10 quotes: Receive a somewhat lukewarm emblem to show that you at least tried!

For 50 quotes: Receive a super cool emblem to show that you know how to converse in threads!

For placing 5th in the challenge: Dragon makes you a fantastic thread in Celebrations! He's really good with them, you know you want this.

For placing 4th in the challenge: Castform allows you to choose a splash picture for Treehouse that will stay there for at leeeast two weeks!

For placing 3nd in the challenge: fabulous artist Fairy draws you a ~~derpy~~ pretty personal picture of your favorite pokémon!

For placing 2nd in the challenge: Achromatic shouts out to you in a video on PC's youtube and says a line of your choosing!! He may or may not edit it wildly.

For placing 1st in the challenge: The Administrators will grant you a pink username for at least one week. O. M. G. Also Red's Hawt Chibi Pelippers writes a thrilling short story with you as the protagonist AND makes you somewhat okay thread in Celebrations!

1. Seems obvious but just confirming, do only posts made on/after 21st Aug count?
2. If I quote more than one person in a Post, do I have have to post the link as many times or can I do something like this (in case I quoted 4 people):-

in all honesty, i just don't think most people care about awkwardly forced communication with the transparent goal of not facilitating conversation but hunting those rewards

I see. I assure you the intentions of this event were good; I genuinely only think Treehouse is fun when there's conversation. Simply replying without reading responses of others is like taking an online quiz. I thought some carrots could make the people who agreed with me quote more, I didn't realize that it could repel them :s

I don't care whether I get the pink username or not, heck I don't even know what that is, or what perks are associated with it, I'm just having a good time, enjoying competing in the Event, nothing wrong with that.

And just to make it clear to everyone, I have my own Event on Trivia, which I'm hosting by the way & I have competed in Events before & won a few, so I'm not new to Events.

I don't know if I should bring this up here or not, but I tried to propose an idea on the Forum Frontier Thread (tried to carry forward Rika's idea of a pet forum & suggested that it should be wider & maybe include the whole of the Animal Kingdom) but you guys were so busy arguing, that I was completely sidelined. Not the first time I've been ignored & maybe not the last time. It was only when Rika said the same (not trying to cut you Rika, just trying to make a point here :)), that people noticed. So imo, I'm still trying to have a conversations, but being ignored, maybe because I don't belong to the "top bracket" here on PC, is that it?

And honestly, I'm not bothered, I come to PC to forget the stress of rl, relax, have a good time, chat with people who care & arguments are the last thing I want to have here. But I don't shy away from saying what I have to, if I feel the need to, which I just did. Hope its not taken in the wrong way :).

But I don't want anyone to be salty, so I'd like to officially withdraw from the contest, you can give the prize to whoever is next in line & whoever "deserves" it.

Edit: - Well colours, I just noticed that u decided to be rude & "dot" me, just because I have an answer. And no, I'm not going to do the same. But u know what, I'm going nowhere, I'm going to keep Quoting & keep competing. I don't really want to get into a deep conversation regarding this because this is supposed to be a lighthearted event to help make the Treehouse more fun. However, I am going to be honest and say you are a bit overreacting. In no way was colours rude and in no way was colours accusing you of not following the rules. All she did was emphasize on the true meaning of this competition, encourage more flowing conversations. When you submit a quoting entry like this one here, it is really hard to believe you are genuinely trying to spark conversations instead of just inflating your "quote count". Also you completely contradict yourself in your post:

Just to clear things here, the rude comment was made in the Edit, after, I repeat, after colours decided to snip my post. I never said that her whole post was rude. Maybe one of my comments was rude as well, but I edited that out.

Okay, it might seem like I'm contradicting myself, but the point I was trying to make, when I said I'm taking this seriously, was that I acknowledge the fact that someone made the effort put up an Event & I'm making a serious effort from my side to participate & give it my best shot, while following the rules.

And just to add, Rika did not have a problem with what I was doing either, till those comments were made, so I don't think I was wrong.

About that link, well those were replies made on my Thread, so I was just trying to acknowledge them, by trying to reply back (I do that on other forums here on PC as well). Okay maybe I quoted too many people in one post, but at least I was making an effort. And I did get a few replies, so if the aim of the Event was to strike conversations, wouldn't that count that as moderate success?

I'm running one of the saltiest Events ever on PC, so believe me when I say this, I know what its like when things get out of hand & I can totally understand your position right now.

Since you are the Host of this Event, tell me what I need to do. Although I'm the rabbit in hot pursuit of the carrot, if I'm not wanted here (I'd still like to participate though), I'll graciously withdraw from the Event, just let me know please :)

Again, no one said you did anything wrong. It was simply suggested that you should focus more on the conversation aspect of the competition rather than the racking up points portion. You definitely aren't breaking any rules and no one is accusing you of doing so!

A pink name is just a pink username on the forums. Though I don't see what that has to do with anything. I am also sorry that you feel I am being very one sided, I am just truthfully acknowledging what has been going on here. This is not a personal attack towards you and I do not want you to take it as one. I encourage you to keep participating in this competition and any future competitions we have here on PC. It's more fun when we have active participants like you in these events. Try not to focus too much on the little things. Take our words of advice and try to have more fun here, because THAT is what PC is about. :)

I never said, colours' post was rude, you are misquoting me here. The only thing I found rude was colours "snipping" my Post when she replied, which is rude imo. Is it more clear now?

Me & Rika, are the only ones who were having fun here, so again, why say this to me?

The way I see it, Rika made a harmless joke about "lazy Treehouse Regulars", which didn't go down well with a few people, which of course is okay, coz people have the right to their views. But somehow it seems to me that I became the soft target.

I wouldn't have had a problem if colours had taken it up with me personally (PMs/VMs) & since she is also a mod of another Forum, I'd have actually listened to her. But doing it on the Event Thread, is like calling me out, which felt very bad. And I don't even know her so why would I have a personal problem with her?

But snipping someone's post, especially someone who's been honestly trying, is not only rude, but a bit insulting as well. And I'm feeling very insulted here to be honest & it isn't a good feeling at all.

I am actually making an effort here to make things better & am ready to listen, but neither you, nor colours acknowledged it, so yes it is totally one-sided.

I usually do not have a problem striking up conversations, but all you have managed to do now is make me a lot more conscious. I'll now have to think a 100 times, before I even try to have a normal conversation with someone.

I took part in this Event, for the sake of competition, but honestly, this turned out to be one of the worst experiences on PC.

And believe me, I'm feeling really bad saying this, coz Rika has been one of the sweetest & nicest hosts on any Event I've been on & we were genuinely trying to make this Event fun.

That's all I got to say on this & I hope my points are much more clear now. I'm not expecting a different reply from you anyways, so I'll leave it here.
