I think the game coming out, is one way for them to not have to bother with an after story.

Visual Art's/Key President Takahiro Baba confirmed on his Twitter account on Sunday that scriptwriter Jun Maeda ("Daamae") is working out the scenario for a possible game adaptation of their Angel Beats! anime. However, he cautioned that the project has not launched yet and that an formal green light would not be given for another half year. Baba was responding to reports that Maeda revealed a possible game adaptation during a lecture he gave at Kyoto University's school festival earlier on Sunday.

Several years? it's only been like.. 6 months or less since Angel Beats! was released

That's more than one year already. Then they have to make the game itself.
Several might have been a little farfetch'd (:D), but I'd say two years after the end of the anime.
