Are there any fan games that step outside the Pokemon standard game formula?

I've been playing a lot of fan games lately, and I've realized that Pokemon games can be a bit of a straight-jacket.

Like...the things I would really like would be allowing Pokemon to know more than four moves at a time, and allowing for a more conventional rpg battle, with your party fighting together instead of the 'tag-in/tag-out' system Pokemon assumes. I feel like this would open up a lot of strategic depth, since you could build Pokemon as dedicated healers or dedicated stat-boosters.
