So i've been looking into alot of 'autism representation' lately. In animals, characters, creatures and the likes - and now pokemon! Partly because i'm planning to make some autistic OCs, and pokemon OCs for myself and people! For example, I sorta discovered how 'autism-worthy' penguins are. Disoriented, bob their heads, and look really silly.

I'd love to see what you guys think, since i'm a little less experienced with alot of Pokemon myself. I know a handful of pokemon, but other than that ive never genuinely played a pokemon game FULLY.

My most accurate pick for an autistic Pokemon at the moment is: Slowbro!

Comes in lots of shapes and sizes. (Calls it "the spectrum" for a reason.) Seems tough to point to a specific Pokemon to represent all of autism. Looked around for some others' thoughts. Some ideas:

    :sudowoodo:
Sudowoodo: Pretends to be a tree (despite being made of rock). Stands out, however. Pokedex entry from Legends: Arceus:
Though it pretends to be a tree, it fails to fool even children. To the touch, its body feels more like rock than tree bark. Sudowoodo's extreme aversion to water merits special note.

    :mimikyu:
Mimikyu: Pretends to be Pikachu, a popular Pokemon, to get closer to people/Pokemon. Pokedex entry from Moon:
A lonely Pokémon, it conceals its terrifying appearance beneath an old rag so it can get closer to people and other Pokémon.

    :ditto:
Ditto: Transforms into anything, but not quite perfectly. Always contains one imperfection. Usually picks the eyes in art nowadays. Attached a card of Ditto transformed into a Numel.

    :delibird:
Delibird: Carries food around in its bag. Relates to the penguin pebbling (giving small gifts as a means of communication). Happens to be a bird.

    :clefable:
Clefable: Has very sensitive hearing. Relates to sensory sensitivity. Shield Pokedex entry:
Their ears are sensitive enough to hear a pin drop from over a mile away, so they're usually found in quiet places.

    :meowth::skitty::litten::purrloin::glameow::sprigatito:
Meowth, Skitty, Litten, Purrloin, Glameon, and Sprigatito: One of the many cat-based Pokemon. Exhibits some independence and certain ways of communication.

Also sees five animal representatives of autism, according to a website. Picked a Pokemon for each one of that animal type.
    • Owl: Noctowl :noctowl:
    • Dolphin: Finizen :finizen:
    • Elephant: Copperajah :copperajah:
    • Butterfly: Vivillon :vivillon-polar:
    • Wolf: Mightyena :mightyena:

Ties autism to a lot of different possible Pokemon, basically.

Thank you so much for this useful detailed reply - this might just be all I need! Please continue being awesome, have a good day ^^

Zorua/Zoarark because it represents in terms of "masking". Zorua likes to be other pokemon, which I think could easily relate to how we "mask" a lot to be normal.

Devalue covered a majority of what would work imo.

Another one could be Whimsur/Loudred. Both are usually sensitive hearing/can be loud, which is common for autistics since we tend to be loud at times. I was thinking of this one a lot and yeah.

The Flabebe line as well because of the "attachment to objects" we tend to have. Plus, it represents autism as a spectrum because each of them has a different color.
