I'd definitely be willing to try it. Those unique/technical weapons always catch my eye, but it's pretty rare that I actually try them out. I think I tried it out in the MH4 demo, but that's about it.
And I tried the Charge Blade once. I could definitely get into it, but I suppose due to my playstyle being more Hack&Slash with a charged attack with the right chansu, I couldn't really justify using the weapon devoted to it. Plus, coming from the Switch Axe to a weapon that actually manages to be slower presents a bit of a barrier for entry for me, but I can totally see the fully charged attacks being incredibly satisfying.
Speaking of MH4, still haven't gotten it. One of these days, though. One of these days.
Dodging requires more effort and if you screw it up you're probably going to take more damage if you're built for attacking. The only problem arises from unblockable attacks...which Monster Hunter enemies have in spades. Freakin' Agnaktor with it's freakin' fire laser beam...
That's because you have to be good, M.
No, really though, it is a big risk/reward alternative that I suppose I enjoy on that merit. In general, I'm the type of guy that will be horribly annoyed by an ARPG that doesn't include dodge rolling or some equivalent dodging alternative, mainly when the game would just be better for it (I could go down the list of games that do this). I just love the excitement of it all, and the satisfaction and payoff feels pretty damn good. Defense is definitely safer of the two, but in general relying on reading the enemy and their moves, knowing and employing your environment, and understanding your character and how they move to ultimately come out unscathed from a devastating attack (or several smaller ones) is fun as hell, it's definitely a lot of what I like about ARPGs when they know how to make movement reactive and with at least slight depth.
...And as much as I love it, I really wish we'd see more ARPGs that- well. I dunno. I have a lot of hopes and dreams for the genre, just seems like it still has a lot of untapped potential. Isn't really as popular (or populated) as it should be in 2016, either. Really wouldn't mind if smaller devs decided to take ideas from the giants. I'd prefer it actually, it's about time we get some momentum.
