Bad games with interesting mechanics?

Same as title. Games that at least tried to bring something new to the table but was still bad overall? First game that fits this description that comes to mind is Spyro Enter the Dragonfly. Yeah, it was glitchy and unfinished and what not but at the same time it was the first Spyro game with multiple breath types at your disposal at all times, something that wasn't the case with the PS1 entries that came before it.

I agree, Spyro the Dragonfly was full of interesting new mechanic, but the overall game suffered cuts and a rushed delivery.
I may anger people with this, but I find Life Is Strange had a similar problem. It's a game where "Choices Matter", but you can go back in time to redo your choices. This would normally remove replayability, but they fixed that by revealing the outcome of your choice much later, when you can't travel back anymore. So basically besides a few occurences in the game, time travel doesn't do that much, which defeats the whole point of having that mechanic in the first place.

The more important question is did you sacrifice Arcadia Bay or Chloe?

Duelyst has a very fun concept. You have a set amount of mana each turn and can play monsters and spell using mana like in Hearthstone, but after that you control all your monsters in a tactical battle fashion. It has 6 factions with different playstyles and each faction also has 2 generals so you can adapt your playstyle further, and then there is a neutral faction which are simply monsters you can put into any deck.

The problem is,in a classic card game fashion, expansions to the game broke it's balance and now you have Arcanyst neutral monsters stronger than any faction so everybody just plays those in their decks, and the only way to get them yourself is to either grind a lot or pay money. And the devs of the game apparently have no clue that the game is in a terrible spot balance wise so the game has been pretty much dying. It atm averages 180 players a month.

Also I thought of another game; the Disgaea series. The gameplay is so fun and unique, with the Puzzles and the whole Item/Character leveling up, the Reincarnation mechanic and the combos it's just so good! But the stories and characters are so cringey, to a point where I'm physically in pain when I play these games.

did anyone else play spore? the concept was great, but after the tribal stage the game sucked. the creature design and cell stage were interesting and promised a lot more variety in the later stages than there actually was. also LA noire - great idea, really disappointing execution. an 'open' world game in name only.
