6th Gen Battle Mechanics & Environments Discussion

Let's see if they do a sky battle for Winona that'll leave us with Flygon and it's pre evolution, the Claydoll line, Skarmory, the Swellow Line, the Pelipper Line,the Altaria line, the Tropius Line. I think those are most of the levitating/ flying types we can get before post game. Skarmory seems like the most useful out of that list along with Flygon.
 
Yeah I agree with Skarmory its a good choice in a sky battle!
 
Sky battles were fun! Whenever I have a flying-type Pokemon out as well as my opponent, I always used to wonder, what if we could battle airborne? Kind of like how Ash took on Winona in the anime, if anyone watched that episode. For my first run through, I actually didn't have a Pokemon compatible with Sky battles, but after catching a Jumpluff, I got to experience it. Only downfall is because of the extremely limited amount of Pokemon you can use, if their flying type trumps yours, there's not much you can do about it. I'd like to see it come back in ORAS though, added some diversity to trainer battles. :]
 
I never cared for sky battles, probably because they were poorly implemented into the game. They're especially not great when they're only during the main story when you have a limited number of eligible Pokemon and are more concerned with HMs and type variety.

And a forced sky battle (against a Gym Leader no less) is a terrible idea.

But if they had Sky Battles as an option in the Battle Tower/Frontier or PWT or whatever, that'd be pretty good.
 
Obviously they wouldn't have the same rules as a regular sky battle. They'd make it so that the player can use any Pokemon they please, possibly due to a platform that the creature can stand on. I don't know, I think it'd be an awesome way to represent Winona's flying type Pokemon. Of course, if it was with regular Sky battle rules, it would be horrible!

It's time to get rid of the circles Pokemon stand on in battle scenes and make the background compensate to look like an actual arena, especially with the switch to a 3D graphic style.

If they do, I want... an iceberg'd Pokemon from that background thing...
to FORCE a single fight into a double... same goes for trees

HOPING: Water Battles: can't float/drift/swim... can't join (Graveler/Dugtrio vs Tentacool)

Of course. I am imagining they may add a lot of Divers in the underwater and maybe have a timer mechanic I guess?
 
A timer mechanic would be good. Allows the player to venture into the depths of the sea with a realistic aspect to it. Also, the deeper you go, the harder it is to maneuver, but stronger Pokemon appear in the reefs. If they put trainers, they need to operate under the same mechanics, like coming up to the surface after being down for a certain amount of time.

I hated the step aspect in Gen V, and doubt I'll like the timer aspect. Maybe the player could be shown with scuba clothing while riding their Pokemon to make it realistic?
 
I'm really glad they're changing the battle system. I really thought that the amount of angle/camera changes in XY battles was totally unnecessary.

Also, I really hope that we keep Sky/Sea battles to a minimum ~_~ I never battled any Sky Battles because I would only have 1-2 Pokemon that would count at all and often times they were HM slaves and unable to beat 2-3 Pokemon.
 
Sky battles were fun, but too many wouldn't work. I myself usually don't even catch a Flying type Pokemon, so for most of Y I wasn't able to fight any of them. A few scattered around the region is just fine! Still, I like the concept of underwater battles what with Hoenn having so much water and being a tropical region; it would make sense.
 
Sky battles were actually some of the most difficult for me, as I only had one flying type at a time. I hope that it returns, this time I'll try to actually defeat them.
I think it'd be neat of sky battles returned but it would be nice if they put the sky trainers in a single building. I didn't really like accidentally running into one when trying to move through a route quickly.
 
Maybe they could place sky trainers on top of Mount Chimney or Mount Pyre and some in Ever Grande? Tbh I am not really and avid fan of sky battles since you are reeeeeeeally limited but I love the animations tho.
 
Concerning Sky battles, there could be kind of a "mini" challenge in the Battle Frontier where you only partake in Sky battles, and choose three flying type Pokemon to undergo the challenge. In one episode during the Hoenn anime, Ash, along with several of his companions, were in a similar event, using Flying-types only to capture a ring in the middle of the arena.
 
So apparently if you look closely to the screenshot, you can see some snapshots from a battle perspective.

To be honest, they dont look like it has changed other than the different hitbar design like they always change every game. I might be wrong because they are not animated haha xD Or possibly might be changed because it may still be in the beta phase.
 
About sky battles, i hope winona is a normal one because im nuzlocking thos game!
But really shed have 4 and yould have 1/2 so its not fair.
So no i dont think winona is a sky battle
 
Well for starters we can see Back views of the trainer in-battle are returning! Rather than having just a hand throwing the Pokéball we actually get to see the trailer in full effect.
