Battle Server Support

Basically like Hikari said there is an ignore command implemented into the server. Although if you have troubles with any user whether it'd be behaviour or you have a good reason on why you choose to ignore them, you should probably bring it up with one of the mods or admins and they might be able to handle the situation. However yes there is an ignore command and to use it you type /ignore [user you want to be ignored here] and that should ignore them completely. If you want to unignore them then type /unignore [user you want to unignore here]. Hope this helped! :>
 
Wolf, small suggestion. Can you make a separate just NU randbats? Without those in PU (so according to the usage stats?) and keep Lower Tier Randbats?? PLEASEEEEE. :3
 
Is it possible to log out of one's username (becoming a guest) without closing the chat window/tab?

I'll add it the next time we update the server. I might add Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova Randbats as well.

I don't believe there's an option for that yet. However, you could change your username to Guest <numbers>, but I think you would remain in the chat. Of course, you can delete your browser cookies (which would also delete your teams) and rejoin as a guest, but that requires closing the tab.
 
The "no inappropriate content" rule has been changed to:

— Do not link to any pornography or other sexually explicit content in the chat.
However, the server is still not a place for kids. Expect to see sex talk every once and a while, as we are very lax on preventing mature topics from being discussed. We aim to make the server enjoyable for everyone, so while most people enjoy talking about mature content, others may not. For this reason, you may contact a server staff member and they will help change the topic even if it means using disciplinary action.

I find that this will benefit everyone. This won't completely outlaw any sort of mature content from being talked about, but if a user wants the topic to be changed, everyone must comply. However, if we get complaints about the server being too sexual, then I may consider adding an actual rule for it. But for now, we'll see how this goes.

If you have Chrome, you can reload the page in an incognito window and be able to view the chat from there.

I am all for the casual environment of server and think this is a good rule. I don't think sex should come up as often as it used to though - the amount of times we were "in range" in the waning months of my times here really made for an insufferably low quality chat and I think more "soft moderation" to steer away from that if/when people get a little too enthusiastic would be *swell*

though not having the impersonation command will undoubtedly help.......
 
I'd to welcome Narnia and Jake♫ to the mod team! They were on our original list of promotions, but we decided to reduce the number to four and see how that pans out first. However, it definitely seemed like we would benefit from having them as staff, so here we are.

Okay so I know that w were gonna have a rule about too much sex talk and it was decided things were fine as they are, but after last night/this morning I think we need to have SOMETHING. That amount yesterday (and also some other nights on the server I've been feeling a little bit the same way) was just... not okay. At some points it just gets off putting and I think can drive people away from the chat? We just really need something to define what's okay and isn't, as last night it seemed like the mods weren't sure if they should be doing anything. Hopefully I'm not alone in feeling this way :/
 
i agree entirely. i also don't think it's appropriate for 11 year olds, given the type of discussions that are going on there, and the fact that some of our users are 11. perhaps we should just outlaw it, and rather save it for when PS creates separate channels, and have a 18+ channel, etc. although that could be a while away but i do agree that something should change because it isn't right for that kind of stuff to be said to, and around children that age.
 
i agree, some people tend to get "weird" when there were mature convos but that's just me... If it's possible, we should have separate channels just like what Nica said.
 
I eventually resorted to the rule we have right now because it can difficult deciding what should be allowed and shouldn't be allowed. For example, sexual innuendo doesn't seem that bad at first, but in practice it can get very inappropriate fast. I think we should either outlaw it completely or keep it the way it is right now. However, keep in mind that the former would require a lot of strict moderation, as sexual innuendo has always been part of the server's culture.
 
I agree in the fact that last night it was certainly taken too far, I don't think that is should be outlawed completely, but if it gets out of hand like it did last night us mods will have to step in more. I kinda feel bad about it because as Golurk mentioned I think we(us mods) were all kind of confused as to what to do, and looking back I feel like maybe I should have done more to stop it or to change the direction that it was going. Hopefully it won't get out of hand again like it did and we can go back to having mature conversations while still making the server enjoyable for everyone.


EDIT: I also want to add in that if you are feeling uncomfortable feel free to notify the mods as Jake said in the below post. Usually there will always be a mod on. However, us mods are ok with mature conversations for the most part and are not likely to change the subject unless someone asks us to or unless it gets way out of hand as it did last night.

I think part of the problem though is that the fact people don't report it if they're uncomfortable. I mean I wasn't here for it last night, but if someone is that uncomfortable and they don't PM a staff member asking to change the subject, then it's kind of on them for the blame. That rule is there for a reason, and if people aren't saying anything if they're uncomfortable then what do you want?

People need to take responsibility on themselves to try to change something if they aren't comfortable, not blame everyone else. But maybe that's just me.

But see, that's why I think we need to have some sort of rule. As last night a line definitely was crossed, but it seemed to me that no one knew if they should have done anything about it, and as a result nothing was done. That's why we need to have some sort of line other than don't link pornography, not that it has to be completely strict but I think some clarification is due. I agree censoring everything and banning sex talk/innuendos is ridiculous but miming sexual actions or whatever you'd call what that was last night; there should be something prohibiting it.
 
I'm just going to jump in here quickly and say that sexual discussions shouldn't completely be outlawed. However I still believe that it should be reduced since there are a handful of them in just a day, or the hint of one even if it isn't too obvious. It's kind of unfair to use age here you know? I mean young users like myself and Red don't have to look at the chat 24/7, when we find something inappropiate or isn't right to view at our age, we can just close the tab or do something else while the others chat about mature content or sexual discussions etc.

Also I'm just going to add that staff aren't the only ones who can take control of sexual discussions. You can take part as well- even if you're just a regular user or voiced etc. Whether you're an admin or not, you can play a role as well. Now exactly how? You know yourself better than anyone else. You should know what makes you feel uncomfortable or content that goes too far. While others are having sexual discussions, we users don't necessarily have to view and chat along with it, which I think is the point some are forgetting. Not to be rude, but our eyes aren't superglued to the screen 24/7. My point is that we can take our own responsibility and know what's right or wrong for us. If this paragraph doesn't make sense please let me know and I'll try and explain it better.

I mean I admit yesterday the line was crossed, but is it really necessary to ban all sorts of sexual discussions? I'm agreeing with Golurk we need to have a line yes, on how far people should take sexual discussions but banning it completely is just ridiculous. Also the +18 channel, I don't think would really work considering a majority of our users are under the age of 18, so there would hardly be any discussion in that channel if one was to ever come around. But that's just my opinion!
 
Updated the rule based on the discussion we had from this.

— Avoid posting content that directly refers to sexual intercourse.
Do not post in excessive detail about sexual intercourse. Do not imitate or mime sexual actions. Do not link to pornography, hentai, or any other sexually explicit content. Sexual innuendo is fine, but do not tell the chat in clear detail about what happens during sexual intercourse. Referring to genitals and such is also fine, but it is not okay when you tell us in heavy detail about using them. Server staff may decide to tone down the conversation if they feel that it is getting too far. However, the server is still not family-friendly. Expect to see sex talk every once and a while, as we are very lax on the prevention of mature topics from being discussed. We aim to make the server enjoyable for everyone, so while most people enjoy talking about mature content, others may not. For this reason, you may contact a server staff member and they will help change the topic even if it means using disciplinary action.

As an extension with that rule, we felt it necessary as the staff to give a speech on issues that have been popping their heads because of it. To read the speech, click here (and please, I urge everyone to read it).
 
We'd like to welcome back GolurkIsDaBomb and tigerBLADE to server staff as mods to cover times where we've had issues covering, as well as Aurora to driver! We have every confidence in the newer additions and we are sure they'll do a great job. Congrats guys!
