  • Route 104 (part 2)

    Number of Posts: 2-3

Description: A short route running from the edge of Petalburg Woods into Rustboro City. There is a pond that splits the route in two, with a bridge that allows travellers to cross it and access Rustboro City.

What can you do in a Route?

Generally the main two things you can do on a route are capturing pokémon and battling trainers. You can do many other things, you know free will and all that... Anyways, you cannot meet any of the other RPers, and everyone have fun.

Note - the title specifying the rarity of a pokémon refers to how hard a pokémon is to catch. i.e. a much better post is required to catch an uncommon pokémon than to catch a common pokémon.
How I level the pokémon you're catching will depend on how good your post is. When you're trying to catch a pokémon, you cannot decide if you catch it. When trying to catch a pokémon you have to finish your post off when you throw the pokéball and wait for my response telling you if the capture was successful or not. You cannot continue until you know that it was caught. In battles, I will level up your pokémon depending on the quality of your battle post.

  • Vs. Wingull & Wurmple I

Kliff sighed with relief as the rays of sunshine caught him outside the forest. It felt like he'd spent a lifetime in there - at least Viridian Forest back home was a little more peaceful.

He held Rokko's pokeball in his hand and looked at it thoughtfully. He'd just used another Oran Berry on him, leaving him down to three more. Maybe he had been quick to judge this pokemon. No doubt it was fast, however it lacked that special niche and style that Gella had. If things didn't get any better with Rokko, then it was the PC Box for him...

Just as the thought of using one pokemon once more crossed Kliff's mind, he was stopped by two young girls at the bridges entrance. They were both half his height, and had the most ridiculous smiles on their young faces.

    "Heya! I'm Alice,"

"and I'm Kate! Do you have two pokemon?" they said as if they had been rehearsing it. Kliff looked at Rokko's pokeball again,

"Yeaa..." he said a little confused,

"Yay! We can have a double battle!" Alice blurted. Kliff sighed a little. He didn't like the sound of that, "Go Wingull!"

Kate also threw a pokeball, "You too, Wurmple!" The two pokeballs burst open, revealing a skinny, white bird like the one Mr. Briney had, and a red caterpillar. Kliff hadn't registered these ones yet. He looked up his pokedex,

[Best Veteran March/May 2011] A new professor in town - Kanto Adventure PG13
Wingull: the Seagull Pokemon. It rides updrafts rising from the sea by extending its long and narrow wings to glide. This Pokémon's long beak is useful for catching prey.

[Best Veteran March/May 2011] A new professor in town - Kanto Adventure PG13
Wurmple: the Worm Pokemon. This Pokémon's feet are tipped with suction pads that allow it to cling to glass without slipping.

"Hmm," thought Kliff, "Gella's in danger from any possible poison or flying attacks, but she'll live," he said, pulling out the other pokeball containing the mass of vines, "Go Gella, Rokko!" Kliff's two pokemon burst out onto the field, calling confidently as they emerged.

"Wingull, start with Water Gun on that Zigzagoon!" called Alice. Wingull, despite its small size, fired an impressive jet of water,

"Rokko, dodge it!" Kliff commanded. Rokko expertly darted out of the firing line and avoided danger, "Now Growl!" The raccoon pokemon narrowed its eyes and snarled viciously at the opponents, who stalled and looked a little scared - just the distraction he planned,

"Perfect, now use Constrict on both of them Gella!" Gella responded by launching a vine at each pokemon and trapping them both. Wingull cried out and, unable to use its wings, came crashing to the ground. Wurmple too squealed as its whole body got squeezed by the attack.

"No Wurmple!" Kate gasped, before shouting another command, "Poison Sting!" The worm pokemon's horn began to glow bright purple, before it jabbed it right into one of Gella's vines. Gella cried in pain as the super-effective move struck her, loosening her grip and causing both Wingull and Wurmple to wriggle free,

"Now blast it with Water Gun Wingull!" Alice shouted excitedly. Wingull took a deep breath, before firing the attack straight at Gella. She was unable to do anything as the jet sruck her dead on, firing her back many feet away,

"Grr..." Kliff said under his breath, "pesky girls. Rokko - Tackle that Wurmple!" Rokko immidiately darted towards the worm, preparing for a strike,

"String Shot!" Kate called. Wurmple spewed a sticky looking substance which completely covered Rokko. He found himself stuck fast to the ground, and the silky attack began to completely cover him. It was sticking to his fur and preventing him from moving.

"Dammit!" Kliff cursed. At this Point Gella was back in action - luckily Water Gun didn't cause her too much trouble, "Gella, use Sleep Powder on Wingull!" The Tangela extended a vine and began to throw the green powder towards Wingull,

"Dodge it!" Alice commanded. Wingull, with ease, simply flew away from the attack, leaving it useless. Kliff gritted his teeth - things weren't going well,

"Now use Water gun on that Zigzagoon!" Wingull again fired a powerful jet of water at Rokko, still trapped. He could do nothing but lie there and take the force of the water. Growling in pain, it struggled to break free,

"Wurmple, Poison sting Tangela if you please!" Kate said cheerily. Wurmple charged at Gella, horn glowing. A light bulb went off in Kliff's head - he had an idea,

"Consrtict it - tight!" he ordered. Gella grabbed the bug pokemon with three vines, totally immobilising it from any movement. Wurmple squealed as it got crushed,

"Now use the horn to cut Rokko free!" Gella focused on her trapped teammate. She held Wurmple high in the air, before swinging it - around. And around. And around, getting faster with each rotation. Eventually, she aimed for Rokko. With a snap, the horn of Wurmple's tore through the silky web, and Rokko shook himself off as he was feed. Gella whooped with exitement as it forcefully slammed Wurmple into the ground. Wurmple staggered to its feet, wincing in pain,

"Finish that bug off Rokko - Tackle!" Kliff shouted,

    "Quick Wingull, Water Gun!"

What happened next seemed to go in slow motion. Rokko, mad on revenge, frantically ran towards Wurmple with great speed. It slammed into it, sending it flying backwards. However immidiately after that, Rokko was struck by Wingull's Water Gun and launched in the other direction. Both pokemon grounded to a halt and remained in the dirt - a double knockout.

Kate sniffed, "Return Wurmple," she said as she retrieved her fainted pokemon, "You did your best..." she said, managing a faint smile,

Kliff wordlessly returned Rokko back into its pokeball. Its third knockout today. Kliff had no words to say to him.

Attention was drawn again to the battlefield. Two pokemon remained - Wingull and Gella. Both looking pretty tired, however only hard work would win this fight.

"You upset my twin!" Alice said pouting, "Now I'm going to beat you!"

Kliff sighed. It had definately been a long day for him - shame it was far from over...

  • Vs. Wingull & Wurmple II

(OOC: Apparently you still remember my old name, slls :D)

"Gella," Kliff called out to his pokemon. It looked back at him, ready for her next command. Bryon instead smiled, "You're doing great, keep up the good work and this is ours."

"Laa!" she said happily as she turned to face the seagull pokemon. Kliff had never really shown respect for his pokemon before, but Gella had certainly earned it,

"Wingull try a Supersonic!" Alice shouted,

"Wha? Since whe--" Kliff gasped. He was interrupted by what looked like small radio waves emitting from Wingull's beak. The waves reached Gella, and a moment later her eyes were rolling about in all directions. She began to sway around. She had been confused,

"Focus! Try an Absorb attack!" Kliff ordered. Luckily Wingull was part water, so the attack would be decent. Gella fired off the small red beam, but she completely missed and Wingull smirked mockingly,

"It can't hit you Wingull! Use Water Gun!" Wingull inhaled, then propelled a strong jet of water once more towards Gella. The attack hit its mark, smaking Gella and sending her head over heels.

"Come on Gella snap out of it..." Kliff growled under his breath. Why did things have to be so hard? "Try using Constrict!" Gella, still rolling around on the floor in confusion, extended a vine. It just waved around in the air a little, aiming for nothing in particular,

"Hahaha!" Alice laughed irritatingly, "How do you like it when I beat you? Huh?" she said, still intent on defending her sister,

"Look kid, it's a battle, someone's gotta lose. And I'm not beat yet..." he replied, as calm as he could possibly be,

"Water Gun!" Alice commanded as a sort of reply to Kliff. Once more, Wingull hit Gella with the water move. She fell over again, now growing tired. Kliff gritted his teeth. There was one option - Gella could regain health and try to come out of confusion, but she left herself wide open like that. Then again... the field was pretty drenched from all those Water Guns...

"Gella, use Ingrain!" Kliff shouted. Confusion didn't prevent Gella from simply burrying some small vines underground. She stayed motionless for a second, closing her restless eyes,

"Perfect! Get it again Wingull!" Wingull knew what to do and fired another Water Gun attack. It was headed straingt for Gella,

"Absorb!" Kliff shouted. Gella's eyes shot open and she fired the same small red beam. It struck the oncoming jet of water, and the beam turned green,

"But, how did-!" Alice asked in shock,

Kliff smirked, "Well, Ingrain replenishes health little by little - but the ground is moist, so it sped the proccess up. On top of that, what's vital to a plant's growth?"

"W-water..." Alice said with a look of realisiation,

"Yep. Gella is using the water to her advantage - she's absorbing the water's energy, making her healthy again! Constrict!" Kliff said with an authorative command. Gella reached out for Wingull and wrapped a vine aroung each of its wings. Wingull screamed as it was prevented from flying. Slowly, it fell to the ground with a thump, groaning at the pressure being put on its wings,

"Now finish it - Absorb!" Wingull started glowing red for a second, before changing to green. Gella sapped away at the remaining energy of the bird, causing it to grow weaker, and weaker...

"Wingull!" Alice cried as Gella released her grip. The bird pokemon groaned faintly, before slumping to the ground - motionless. It had finally been knocked out.

"Return," she muttered as the Wingull was zapped back into the red and white ball. Both twins looked at each other, and ran off to the next town.

Kliff sighed with relief once more. He walked over to Gella - she was pretty beat up, but those attacks had restored her health, so she was all good. She looked at Kliff happily,

"You battled great Gella, just try to avoid being confused" Kliff said holding up her pokeball, "return for now." He retrieved Gella and continued across the bridge. It was getting dark, hopefully the next town had a place he could sleep.

  • Lou loved forests, she loved everything about them. The light that played on the ground, filtered by the trees above. The foresty smells all around and life that was everywhere. There was a constant rustling around her as creatures made their way in the woods, and she loved it. Epona didn't seem to mind it all, she was happily running around, poking things with her nose.

Lou had kept Macha inside of her ball, in fear that the bird would find snacks in the local residents of the woods. Wouldn't want that to happen, would they? But she swore to let her out if there was any action to be done.

"Epona, wait up!" Lou ran after her Ponyta, who had gotten way ahead of her. The horse was just way too curious for her own good. And when was she ever going to warm up to her? Epona seemed to live solely for herself, not in a bad way, but that was the way she was. She didn't care too much for Lou, she tolerated her, but she was free in nature. A wild horse.

Of course, that was a part of her that Lou admired. Epona was her won mistress, but at least she did what Lou asked of her in battle, as if Epona knew that following Lou's strategy was the best way. No doubt that if she had a better idea, she would go through with that instead.

"Well let's at least find something to do, other than wonder aimlessly, shall we?" Lou proposed to Epona, who didn't really offer any feedback. Someone else, however did.

"Hello!" Lou turned to looks at a boy about her age with longish dark hair and bright green eyes. "Would you like to battle?" He was huffing a bit from running toward her, but looked at her expectantly.

"Sure, why not? Name's Lou," Lou said with a smile, calling Epona back to her. The boy, in turn, released a Houndour, poised for attack. Epona took her place in front of Lou and scratched the ground in an attempt to intimidate, which didn't work all that well.

"I'm Eric, and this is Hephaestos, more commonly called Heph. Heph, I want you to start with a howl and then use an ember attack!" Eric called out, but his face showed that he knew that ember would do very little to the other fire type.

"Epona, let's show what we can do, use tail whip and then kick 'em as hard as you can!" In was slightly unorthodox, but would work. While Heph let out a long howl to boost his own morale, Epona started to subtly wag her tail, mocking Heph. In a huff, Heph got mad and charged at Epona, fire in his mouth that was ready to hit the mark, but before he could even come close Epona lowered her head and kicked out her hind legs in an evil buck that sent Heph sprawling a bit farther away.

"One for Epona!" Lou cheered happily, but Eric didn't seem so certain about Lou's chances.

"Heph, use Payback." Eric commanded and the Houndour cloaked himself in shadow as he jumped up and tacked Epona. She cried out with pain, lost her balance, and fell. Epona got up quickly again, but not unscathed, she had a murderous glare in her eyes toward Heph. "I taught him that with a TM," Eric explained. "Comes in pretty dang handy if you ask me."

"Well, we have some tricks up our sleeves too!" Lie, there were no tricks under Lou's sleeve at all. "Epona, use growl and then tackle him against a tree like we did with Macha!" A low grumble came from Epona's throat, not quite a whinny and not quite an actual growl, but Heph shuddered and took a few steps back fearfully. In that time Epona had already used her speed to run forward, angling herself so that she would be able to smash the stupid dog against a tree. But Houndour was a quick Pokémon too, and he leaped away just in time.

"Epona, try again, tire him out!" Lou ordered, just as Eric told Heph to get hit and use a payback afterwards combined with an ember. Epona sped forward again, this time hitting her target and squishing it between her body and the tree. But at that same moment Heph's body covered itself in black, and fire started forming around his mouth.

Heph released the Ember first, building up on the other attack. The Ember was relatively weak, but it managed to make Epona stagger back a little. This gace Heph and opening to strike, and he threw his body against Epona in another Payback attack. She staggered, fell and didn't get up. Epona was done for. "Great job, Hephaestos!" Eric cheered on the side, doing an air high-five toward Heph, who leaped up as if to catch it. Cute, if Lou wasn't so busy trying to win this.

"Macha, let's kick some puppy bum!" the Taillow materialized in air, making Eric smile in amusement for some reason. "Okay, Macha, start with a peck, but swoop up again to get away from the Payback's range."

"Heph, wait until the bird comes down before sending out an Ember," was Eric's command. Lou almost cursed inside, and Lou never really cursed. Hephaestos was just so much better trained than either Macha or Epona. And it was just to hope that he didn't have any more Pokémon.

The action unfurled as Macha swept down into a peck attack, and just as she was about to land, a mouth of red balls of fire shot at her. She panicked after getting hit and flew up again. Heph was left unscathed from the attack. "Macha, I want you to come up from behind Heph, toward the side, and then peck." Lou figured she knew what the Houndour's reaction would be and that she could beat it.

Macha swooped down from behind Heph, her beak glowing white in the attack. She hit the side of Heph, and then flow upward when Heph turned around to hit her with another Ember. "Okay Macha, now turn around and hit him head on!" Macha did a beautiful aerial move where she flew straight up, then curved over, turned so that she was facing up again, and came down hard just below the Houndour's head. Hephauestos yelped painfully, his breathing came labored now and he looked real tired.

"Heph, use ember the moment the bird swoops down, wait until it is near you, concentrate," you could hear that Eric has a lot of experience with the Houndour, and knew exactly how to deal with it.

"Macha, try coming from the side again," Lou realized that the strategy was very weak, but she was running out of ideas. Macha dove again, this time targeting the other side, but the Houndour turned just as she was about to hit and fired another Ember attack straight at her. Macha screeched, panic overwhelming her again, and she returned to the safety of the sky.

Then an idea shot in Lou's head. Both Pokémon were considerably beat up, and they looked like they couldn't stand another move. "Macha, use Focus Energy and charge yourself while you hit the Houndour head on again!"

"Heph, ember, you know what to do." Macha swooped down, a yellow aura enveloped her and she went faster and faster with the second, her wings folded in and completely concentrated on hitting the target with as much as she could. Heph launched some fire at her, but she ignored them, her entire focus was on Hephaestos. She hit him at an incredible speed and he yelped painfully, a noise that rang through the forest. Houndour was on his feet, but breathing was labored, and he didn't look fit for anything else.

"Return, Heph." Eric said gently, before smiling at Lou. "I won't send out my other Pokémon, the Taillow doesn't look like she could take it. You win this time." He whistled softly and Macha flew down to him in curiosity. He held out his hand, whispering softly, and Macha settled on his arm, completely calm. Lou was baffled.

"How on earth did you do that?! I've been trying to get her to warm up to me for a long time!" Lou was surely impressed.

"Practice and patience, I've learned how to get along with Pokémon over the years, my father was a breeder, it comes with the territory. I could help you, if you want."

Oh, why not? "Sure," Lou agreed. "It's rather dull alone anyway, why not." So it was decided. Eric would tag along for a little bit, help her with gaining Epona and Macha's trust, and keep each other company.

  • Warren gritted his teeth as his gaze drifted over the bridge spanning the lake of Route 104. His meeting with Sam had left him feeling completely infuriated and the path ahead wasn't improving his mood. The bridge was narrow, without handrails and made of wooden slats, which were soaked by the splashing water. To add to this, the most part of the bridge was shrouded in a thick, dense mist. Overall, it didn't look particularly safe. Warren grimaced as he stepped forwards onto the boards, feeling his old, worn-down shoes skid forwards a little. He was going to have to take this slowly and carefully. Breathing deeply, Warren slowly began to shuffle forwards, trying not to lift his shoes too far from the boards. Steadily, he made his way further and further out onto the lake, the shoreline quickly disappearing behind a curtain of mist. Out here, he felt completely isolated, completely surrounded by the seemingly solid fog.

"Win, Wingull!" Warren flinched instinctively as a small, white bird with wide, blue-flecked wings soared out of the mist. Growling, he stepped forwards, then froze as something wet and sticky landed right on top of his head. Slowly, he looked up at the grinning Wingull, still dropping little white 'presents' along the bridge. Warren snapped.

"GET BACK HERE YOU STUPID BIRD!" he yelled at the top of his voice, charging at full speed down the slippery bridge, feet skidding crazily as they pounded against the shaking wooden slats. The bird glanced back and, alarmed, dived low, picking up speed as it shot through the air, faster than Warren could ever run. Not that that would stop him trying, of course. Warren grimaced, forcing his aching legs to move faster and faster until suddenly, his toe jammed in between two slats, set just a tiny bit too far apart and Warren went flying, skidding along the wet boards until he fell with a loud splash into the freezing water. Warren gasped in shock – the cold was terrifying – and instantly water rushed in. Choking, Warren pushed off from the bed of the lake and burst onto the surface seconds later, spewing out a massive stream of water. At least he didn't have Wingull waste in his hair anymore. Shivering madly, Warren looked up to see the Wingull perched on the edge of the bridge, snickering. Warren screamed out in anger.

"I'm gonna kill you!" he spat, lunging forwards and swinging his fist at the bird. It leapt back, startled and his hand smacked painfully into the wooden plank. Warren recoiled his hand and backed up, treading water, as the Wingull turned around in a wide arc and, its eyes glinting, began to swoop towards him once more. Warren's eyes went wide as Wingull opened its mouth and a stream of high-speed water flew out. Oh fu- Warren's thought was cut short as the jet smashed into his chest and, skipping along the surface of the water like a stone, he flew through the air before crashing down into the water again. Here, though, it was different. Dazed, Warren felt himself slipping beneath surface but then, surprisingly, his feet hit the lake bed and he stumbled, almost falling face first into the water. Steadying himself, Warren looked around, teeth chattering, his bag hanging off just one arm – the other strap had ripped off completely. Through pure luck, the Water Gun had blasted him right to the shore of the lake – which explained why the water was so shallow here. Staggering, Warren made his way out of the lake, water pouring off him as he collapsed onto the grassy bank, shivering madly. Trying to clear his head, he slowly formulated a plan. Okay. I'm cold. I'm wet. The sun's dropping. I need to dry off and get warm before I get hypothermia or something. I need fire! Slowing his breathing, Warren looked around. The grass nearby was broken up by clumps of small, leafy bushes. Leaning over, he pushed aside a few branches and reaching into the middle of a small cluster to extract a dead, dried-out shrub. Good. That should burn fine. But he needed more. Rooting around the shrubs for a few minutes more, however, earned him nothing but a collection of small scratches on his hands and arms, unavoidable with the shivering that had spread through his body. The wet clothes are freezing me. He realized instantly and, with some difficulty, shrugged off his jacket, heavy from the water it had absorbed. Bending down, he kicked off his sodden shoes and peeled off the dripping socks. He was still freezing cold, but at least he could begin to dry out now. It would be better to drop the jeans and the shirt too, but there was no way in hell he was going to wander around Hoenn naked. Standing up, Warren slowly made his way over to a small copse, the trees barely as tall as him. Over here, the ground was drier and there were more plants. He might be able to find some decent firewood. A few minutes searching yielded everything he needed – small, dead bushes, some dry moss for kindling and even some large-ish branches which were mostly dry, at least. Delving into his bag, Warren dug out a small box of matches, incredibly grateful that he'd remembered to pack the wax-coated ones. Picking off the thin, waterproof coating with a nail, Warren dropped the wet box back into his bag and struck the match against a flat rock. Instantly, the match flared into life and Warren grinned, gaining an almost overwhelming sense of relief from the tiny light, as the darkness was beginning to close in. Bending down, Warren slowly and carefully poked the match right into the centre of his small pile of wood, where he'd put the dry moss. After a heart-stopping moment when it seemed the match had died, the moss suddenly caught and Warren sat back, sighing with relief as the flames grew steadily, radiating light heat and, most importantly, a sense of incredible security. Somehow, being lost, soaking wet and alone in the dark didn't seem so bad when a small fire was burning in front of him. Leaning back against a tree, Warren groaned from exhaustion as his stomach gave a loud rumble. Grabbing his two Pokéballs, Warren released both Silver and Cuddles, who looked around, somewhat confused. Warren sniggered.

"Ok guys, quick status update. We're lost and I'm freezing and starving. All the food in my bag is soaking wet and ruined, so you need to go and find some berries or whatever. And make sure to bring me some back." The wolf and bear looked at each and sighed, before turning and traipsing off into the undergrowth. Warren yawned as he watched them go, his eyelids drooping. Slowly, they dropped shut and Warren fell fast asleep by the fire.

Cuddles grinned as it bounded through the forest, enjoying the freedom. As a hatched Pokémon, it had never been out in the wild on its own before, but instinct drove it forwards and brought it to a halt when an odd scent met its nose. Looking up, the bear noticed a large, red berry with rubbery skin and multiple bumps on its surface. Skewering it with a claw, Cuddles held it up to its face and nibbled one of the protrusions. Instantly, the bear spat it out, coughing as its mouth burned madly. So, that was a Tamato berry. Cuddles would have to keep looking. Still, Warren might like them at least. And, as Cuddles had noticed, there were a lot of them on this bush. If he took them all, then he could just be done with it there and then. Grinning, the bear nestled the large berry in the crook of one arm and began to pull down the rest of them with its free hand. Eventually, with its arms full of the questionably edible food, it began to make its way back to the small clearing where Warren had set up the fire. Trying not to drop any of the berries, the Teddiursa stepped over a low-lying branch to see Warren with his eyes closed and something green and white on his lap. Cuddles frowned, approaching stealthily and gently laying down the fruit by the fire. Turning, it looked over at the small creature that was standing on Warren's knees. It was about half as tall as the bear and looked as though it was wearing some kind of white dress. Its head was hidden, meanwhile, behind a hemispherical green helmet with a red, circular horn jutting out of it. As Cuddles watched, it reached forwards and poked the sleeping trainer in the face. Warren grunted and, not waking up, slapped the small Pokémon off him. Cuddles burst out laughing as it narrowly avoided falling into the fire, which was now blazing. Hearing the noise, it spun around and spotted the bear. Cuddles grinned, raising its claws defensively as the Ralts slowly stepped forwards. Warren just snored on. The Ralts paused, then slowly raised an arm to point at the bear and burst out laughing. The Teddiursa froze, then looked down as it realised that it had stepped right onto one of the older Tamato berries, which was now oozing all over its paw. Cuddles looked up and froze in shock. The Ralts, which had been about two metres away was now right in front of it and, with a large push, the Ralts sent Cuddles stumbling back. Its foot slipped on one of the riper berries and the bear windmilled its arms before falling flat on its back. The Ralts giggled as the bear slowly sat up, glaring at it. Cuddles didn't laugh. This little squirt was going down!

  • Chapter 3: Just Surskit!

Jazmine clung to the scratchy handle of the basket, as she walked away from the cottage past a few pine trees and rocky ledges. The Pichu wasn't that heavy, but her hand still shook, due to nervousness. All the way to Rustburo! By herself and a small mouse! What if burglars came and stole her belongings or what if there was a huge earthquake and she fell into a giant crater? Or worse- aliens!

'Quit being such a wuss,' Jazmine thought to herself. She looked ahead and trudged on. Something was wrong though, a feeling deep in her stomach. It was quiet…very, very quiet.

Then, out of nowhere, a flash of blue covered her face. Jazmine shrieked. "EEEPPP!!!!!" She fell over, the basket rolling out of her hands. Her eyes were shut tight. Was something attacking her? She definitely didn't feel anything.

Slowly, Jazmine sat herself up and opened her eyes. Nothing. She looked around, and saw nothing but trees and grass. But something wasn't right, something was missing. And then, she realized- it was the basket.

"Oh no oh no oh NO!" Jazmine cried, frantically looking all over for the basket. It wasn't anywhere near. Then, all of a sudden, an acorn fell off of a tree and hit Jazmine on the head. Clutching her had, she slowly looked upwards. There, looking down at her, was the blue spider from earlier- and on a nearby branch, was the basket.

"Surskit!" The spider cried, and then it chuckled. It leaped down from the tree, and landed right on Jazmine's head.

"Get OFF OF ME!" Jazmine yelled, flailing her arms madly. The spider, obviously a Pokémon named Surskit, wouldn't let go. Playfully, the Surskit bent over, its face right in front of Jazmines, and blew bubbles right at her.

The force of them knocked Jazmine over, and she fell on her butt on the ground. The Surskit chuckled- it was just a game to her. And Jazmine was sick of it. She picked herself up off of the ground, and turned to the tiny spider. She was just about to tackle it, when it blew more bubbles directly at her, and sent her flying back onto her butt wants more. "AAAAGGGHHH!!!!!" Jazmine cried in disgust.

Could this get any worse? And then, it did. The sun was covered up by thick, grey clouds, and thunder boomed. Rain poured from above, and the Pokedex crackled to life. Mechanically, it said, "Surskit, the Pond Skater Pokémon. Its ability, Swift Swim, causes its speed to double during rain. It is a bug and water type Pokémon, and is one foot eight inches tall, and weighs three point seven pounds. It draws its prey with a sweet scent emitted from its head."

Jazmine picked herself up once more. Not only was the spider strong, it was twice as fast now. She knew she had no chance of winning against it. She was a failure, hadn't even made it fifty yards from Briney's cottage.

Then, out of no where, an electric hock came down and zapped the Surskit, causing it to fall over. Had it been a strike of lightning, a lucky chance? No. It was Pichu. The tiny mouse had managed to hop out of the basket, and down the branches of the tree- to come and rescue Jazmine. "Pi-pi-uuu!!!!" she cried.

"Wait to go Pichu!" Jazmine called. The Surskit got up from the ground, and shook itself of. It fired more bubbles, at Pichu this time. "Pichu, use the electricity on the Surskit!" Pichu blasted another electric shock, but missed- the Surskit was fast.

More bubbles found their way to Pichu, and this time, collided with her, toppling her over. Jazmine racked her brain. She had to think of a way to get the spider...…but how? It was way too fast. But hadn't she heard her grandmother say something once? About how water and electricity…. "I've got it!" Jazmine exclaimed.

More bubbles flung themselves at Pichu, but this time, Jazmine was expecting them.
"Pichu, use your electricity on the bubbles!" Pichu did as Jazmine had said, and fired a lightning bolt at the bubbles. The electricity travelled through them, quicker and quicker, and they travelled through the rain too, until all at once, in a yellow flash of light, the electricity collided with the Surskit, and it flung into the air- and landed on the ground with a sharp THUD.

"Yes!" Jazmine called out, running over and hugging Pichu.

"Throw a Pokeball at it you dolt!" The Pokedex said in its robot-like voice.

"Oh, right." Jazmine said, shaking off the insult. Pichu pointed to the basket, laying on the ground, and she walked over and grabbed a Pokeball. Hand trembling, she tossed it at the Surskit.

  • @Amoire of Invincibility - Brilliant post! Warren really isn't having much luck in Hoenn is he? Maybe finding this Ralts could be the beginning of a change in fortunes?

p.s. hopefully Silver will bring back something slightly more appetizing

@iPrincess - Hmm... yeah okay I'll let you have this one, after all it is Christmas Eve :D but in future if you want to capture one of the rarer pokemon you will need to bulk up your battle posts.

Congratulations Jazmine caught a Level 3 Surskit

  • A New Aquaintance...

    Rustborough City - Now Approaching

About time too. Kliff had been wandering through forests and bridges for what seemed like forever. The thought of resting in a small, warm populated city comforted him - he needed a break from the travelling.

His thoughts were cut short when he felt something light splash him on the side. He paused, then looked at the sleeve of his jacket, which was wet. His gaze was drawn to an unusual object sitting in the water next to him. It was a person, ripples flowing from beneath them. Poor guy must've fallen in. Well, it wasn't actually a guy - more of a girl. She sat there in disbelief, maroon-red hair flopped over her face drenched. She spat some water out and shook her head violently. Kliff, being the gentleman he was, walked over to the edge of the path, reaching a hand out,

"How'd that happen?" he asked calmly as she looked up to face him. Her green eyes blinked twice before she responded,

"Oh, umm, I was trying to get my pokeball back, but I fell in, heh..." she said sheepishly as she grabbed his hand. She pulled herself up onto her feet, then stepped up onto land again. Kliff saw the bobbing pokeball drifting towards him. He reached down for it, and then handed it to the girl,

    "This the one?"

"Oh, yea," she said, taking it from him, "poor thing must be cold. Out you come Tyrogue," she continued, more sympathetic. From the ball, a small humanoid creature burst out. It shook itself off as it too was wet, before wrapping its arms around itself. It looked at its trainer sternly,

"Oh, you're a trainer too?" Kliff asked as he scanned the pokemon with his pokedex,

[Best Veteran March/May 2011] A new professor in town - Kanto Adventure PG13
Tyrogue: the Scuffle pokemon. Tyrogue become stressed out if they do not get to train every day. When raising this Pokémon, the Trainer must establish a regular training schedule.

"Yea, well, I'm trying I suppose," she said, "I was going to Rustborough but I dropped him in the lake..." she was cut off by a tremendous shivver. Kliff felt a little bad for leaving her soaking wet and freezing, so he dipped into his bag and found his towel.

"Jees you look freezing," he said giving her the towel. She quickly threw it around herself, "C'mon and dry off."

    ----------

Poking the fire he'd made once more, Kliff sat back a little and looked towards the city. He was almost there too. Ah well, when someone's in need and all...

"Listen, thanks very much," the girl spoke, now looking much better and sipping some tea. She took off the towel, handing it back to him, "Sorry about all this fuss I've made..." she said with a small laugh,

"No no not at all..." Kliff replied. He took a gulp of his drink, "Sorry, I didn't catch your name,"

"Oh yea!" she said with sudden realisation, "I'm Lauren. Lauren Hokes. You?"

"Kliff Carterson," he replied, "so you just starting out too?"

"Yea..." she said with a sigh, "though I'm not sure I made the best choice," she turned to her pokemon, Tyrogue, who was punching and kicking the air repeatedly. "Tyrouges need training daily. He's not satisfied unless he's practicing and honing his skills..."

"At least he's enthusiastic though," Kliff said, thinking about his own pokemon, "My problem is the lack of skill around here." Lauren turned to him inquisitively, "I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't hate every pokemon around. It just looking for one with that special something..."

"I get it," she said, "I'm kinda the same. I prefer strong pokemon. Hey! Feel like a battle?" she said, face lit up, Kliff shook his head,

"Can we have one tomorrow? Sorry to dissapoint, but I'm exhausted," he replied apoligetically. Lauren sighed with a smile,

"Now that you mention it, I'm drained too." She said returning Tyrogue. Kliff stood up and stretched,

"C'mon, I'll walk you to Rustborough," he said as he slung his bag over his head,

"Can't we just sleep out here?" She asked yawning.

Kliff paused. He was surprised, admittedly. They'd only just met about an hour ago yet she seemed fine with the whole idea. Meh, who was he to complain, "Actually, that's a good idea," he said, dropping his bag again, "I've been curious to try sleeping outdoors."

Lauren laughed slightly and set up her suff for the night. Kliff did so too, pulling out his sleeping bag from his bag and seting it up. Both were laid out at opposite ends of the fire - they weren't exactly going to sleep right next to eachother on the first night.

Kliff removed his jacket and shoes before sliding into his 'bed' for the night. It wasn't exactly the way he wanted to end the day, but it could have been worse.

    "Kliff," he heard Lauren say,

    "Yup?"

    "Night."

    Kliff smiled, "Yea. G'night."

(OOC: Aww, how cute =3 Not much here, just trying to create some sort of mini-plot for Kliff.)

  • VS Carvanha

    Vitor Aurelio
    Location: Petalburg Woods
Psyduck gulped down hard, and Vitor could swear he could hear the two Oran Berries fall on his stomach with a thud. But now wasn't the time to worry about trivial things like that, there were… bigger problems at hand.

"Arrr… so what ye say, eh matey?" The man asked as he approached Vitor, his hand extended towards his Pokémon and his palm facing towards the sky as if expecting Vitor to just give it up. The man was probably in his early twenties, and wore blue pants with white circle patterns on the sides. A white and black striped short-sleeved shirt, and a blue bandana with what seemed to be a Jolly Roger depicted on it in white.

"Like hell I will!" Vitor yelled at the guy defiantly. He wasn't scared, in fact, if it came down to it, he'd just have to beat this clown up… right? "Damn, Psyduck use Scratch! Put this guy out of commission!"

The Pokémon obeyed. With something in-between being a leap and a skip, Psyduck swung his right arm, which seemed to have been healed after eating those Oran Berries, at the guy who barely had time to get his hand out of harm's way.

"Bloody scallywag!" the guy yelled as he jumped back making some space between them. "I'll show ya'! Go Carvahna!"

"Carvahna!" a tough looking, red and blue… and yellow fish-like Pokémon cried as it was sent out for battle. On one hand, Vitor felt bad for it, fish Pokémon should stay in water, where they belong, he thought. On the other hand, the Carvahna looked angrily both at him and at his Pokémon, and was very tough and at-home on the ground.

"That looks like a tough one." Vitor thought as he took out his Pokédex to scan the Pokémon.
[Best Veteran March/May 2011] A new professor in town - Kanto Adventure PG13
~ Carvahna, the Savage Pokémon. If anything invades Carvahna's territory, it will swarm and tear at the intruder with its pointed fangs. On its own, however, this Pokémon turns suddenly timid. ~
"Nice! That means that the Pokémon MUST be weak by itself, right?" Vitor thought relieved as he continued to look on to the fearsome Pokémon. If anything, at this point he was more scared that the intimidating Pokémon would frighten Psyduck during the battle, and cause him to psyche himself out. "You ready Psyduck?"

    "Psy!"

Honestly, Vitor had expected a scared reply from his Pokémon, but his convincing tone of voice, and determined eyes told a completely different story. Psyduck hadn't been with him for a long time yet, but he knew that he liked the kid, and there was no way it would rather be owned by a clown dressed in blue. Vitor chuckled. "Good."

He still couldn't believe this guy. He had come out of nowhere, to try and take his Pokémon?! Not to mention what he did to poor Brent when striking him aside. By the way, where WAS that kid? Vitor looked over to the place where the Bug Catcher had fallen, but now he was nowhere in sight. "Bug Catchers." He grunted and spat to the side.

"I be damned the day an opportunity like this arises and I fail my duties as a member o' Team Aqua!" The grunt yelled, and proceeded to give the first command: "Carvahna! Go and Bite that damn thing!"

The fish-like Pokémon grunted as it proceeded to bounce towards Vitor's Pokémon. "No way José! Psyduck, Scratch it away!"

"Psy!" his Pokémon yelled as it placed a perfectly well timed Scratch across his opponent's face. However, as the Carvahna rolled across the ground in pain, Psyduck whimpered, and stumbled towards his trainer, hand raised and claws dull.

"What the…?" the kid said as he inspected his Pokémon.

"Yo ho ho!" he heard the grunt laugh. "That be me darling's special ability ye see? Members o' the Carvahna family ha'e 'ery Rough Skin, and ye can see the result o' a simple physical assault!"

"Which means that my only means of attack will only affect me as well…" Vitor thought worried upon the realization of his dilemma. "Damn."

"Damn is right me lad! Now how 'bout ye stop being so resisting and just hand it o'er? He said chuckling, and once again holding his hand out to Vitor.

However, the kid's defiance wasn't as limited as the grunt had thought. "I already told you man. No can do… me and Psyduck are in it together, ye see?" he mocked the man in blue. "Right Psy?"

"Duck!" his Pokémon affirmed, somewhat happy to be called something other than Psyduck all the time.

Biting hard on his lower lip, the Team Aqua member's anger finally boiled: "Let's teach this thing, Carvahna, you know what to do… Bite! Kill that thing for all I care!"

But Vitor retorted. "Psyduck! Don't be scared by what he says, just counter the Carvahna with a Scratch!"

"Psy!" his Pokémon cried as he attacked the charging Pokémon with his claws. "Psy!" the Pokémon cried as the first scratched hit the mark. "Duck!" he cried again as the second hit the Carvahna right across the face, but suddenly, the cry was more painful-sounding as the fish finally caught the Psyduck's arm with a powerful Bite. "PSYYYYDUUUUCKK!!!"

"Damn!" Vitor thought. He had seen this before, Psyduck hadn't proven very strong against physical damage, and the way that the Pokémon had suddenly calmed down was reminiscing of his first fight against that Growlithe. "Come on Psyduck, you can do it!"

Suddenly however, Psyduck began to glow once more. The aura was much more noticeable than before, and much stronger than it had been before, and it looked as if blue flames were surrounding Psyduck. "Shiver me timbers!" the member from Team Aqua yelped upon noticing this. "What in the seven seas be happenin'!"

"Psyduck, do it NOW!!!" Vitor yelled noticing a turning of the tide, and in unison with his order, Psyduck opened up his mouth, and sent a spurt of water jetting towards his aggressor, sending him flying backwards.

The Carvahna hurt as it was, gritted its sharp teeth, and struggled up from its side. However, it hadn't seen the best of Psyduck, who simply shot a second spurt, way stronger than the first, and pushed the fish Pokémon against a tree, where the Water Gun continued to squish it until Carvahna couldn't take it no more.

"Va… Na…" it sighed as it slipped into unconsciousness.

"Damn landlubber you'll pay!" the Team Aqua grunt yelled as he recalled his Pokémon. "Now I be placin' the black spot upon ye! No one crosses Team Aqua and hopes to get out unscathed! Yo ho ho ho!" And upon saying what he needed to say he threw a Smoke Ball to the floor and made his escape.

The forest was completely dark now, and Vitor recalled his exhausted Pokémon. "Psyduck come back. We need to get out of here." "The black spot, huh?"

  • The woods broke to a new, more open area. Sam took a breath of the much fresher air, just now realizing how long he'd been in that damn forest. He was about to take the path to god knew where when suddenly he realized something. His stomach was growling.

"Well that's just wonderful…oh well. I may as well sit down for some lunch. Everybody, let's go!" he yelled, throwing the three orbs into the sky. They all fell quickly to the ground and in a flash of light, burst open. Cleff appeared, looking around gleefully. Shroomish appeared with a nervous look on its face. Poochyena was the strangest of the appearances, growling as the light around it faded. It looked around, the growling not stopping.

"Poochyena, what's wrong?" Sam asked. The dog turned and stared at him before barking a bit, running back towards the forest. Sam turned to Cleff and Shroomish. "Be good while I'm gone!" He quickly charged into the woods after Poochyena. He ran as fast as he could but the dog was nowhere in sight. Suddenly, he slid to a stop in the clearing, Poochyena sniffing at the ground. It was the same clearing where he had earlier fought with Warren.

"Yena!" it cried, sniffing the ground angrily. Sam couldn't suppress a small chuckle. He bent down and rubbed Poochyena's head.

"Heh…you're looking for Warren and Silver aren't ya? Don't bother, he has a gift for vanishing just like that. Still, you really want at 'em, don't you?" he asked. Poochyena shook his hand off and growled. Sam assumed it meant yes. "Then don't worry. Warren and I are like two sides of the same coin, we don't get too far from each other. Don't worry, you'll get your chance, but you'll need to get stronger first…"

"Yena poochyena pooch!" Poochyena yipped, obviously still angry at Warren and Silver. Sam sighed.

"Look, I know you hate the idea, but if you want to get stronger…team up with me," Sam said. Poochyena appeared to raise an eyebrow. "I mean like an alliance. I'm not exactly thrilled with Warren right now and I'd love to take a shot at him. You're after Silver, so I think we should team up. You in?" Poochyena appeared to mull it over a bit before making a decision.

"Poochyena," it nodded, looking Sam in the eyes. A tear formed in his eye.

"Thank you…Poochyena…" he whispered, petting the small dog. It shied away from the contact. Sam raised an eyebrow. "Oh come on…we're friends now." Poochyena appeared to sigh then accepted the kind motion. Sam sat there petting the dog for a few seconds then stood.

"Poochyena?" it seemed to ask. Sam smiled.

"I left our supplies back at the campsite with Cleff and Shroomish…let's go," Sam said, walking down the forest path. Poochyena quickly followed.

They soon arrived back at camp, where Cleff was chasing a butterfly. Shroomish was sitting quietly, unmoving. Sam smiled as he walked over and touched the small mushroom-like pokemon. It jumped, screeching in fright.

"Whoa there, Shroomish. It's me, Sam, your trainer? I'm just here to be your friend, okay?" Sam said, trying to calm it down. It looked at him with a scared look, but it quickly got over it. Instead, it nodded slightly. "That's much better. Now, how about a rest?" All his pokemon nodded and they quickly laid down for a nap. Sam smiled before he too fell asleep, using his backpack as a pillow.

Sometime later, Sam awoke to a loud noise. It sounded like yelling…from the bridge?

"What's going on…" he whispered, returning his three team members as they slept. He grabbed his bag and ran over to the bridge. On it, he saw four figures standing there.

"Damn it, let me over the bridge!" one yelled. Sam's eyes opened wide as he spoke. That voice was so familiar. He took off, running for the bridge.

"It's because you're weak. You can't beat me, so pay the toll or leave!" another yelled angrily. He was obviously older than the others.

"Yeah, pay up!" one of the others said in addition. The three standing together appeared to be a gang collecting money from travelers. Sam quickly reached the bridge and slid a bit before looking around.

"Is that you…Travis?" he asked. Travis jumped when he heard it.

"Sam Saruno…what are you doing here?" he asked, turning around. Sam smirked.

"I'm getting stronger, that's what. Now what's going on here?" he replied, putting his hands behind his head. Travis frowned.

"These bastards aren't letting me across and I doubt you'll get any better treatment…" he replied, turning to face the three again.

"If you would just pay our damn toll…" the oldest said again.

"I'M NOT PAYING THE ******* TOLL!" Travis yelled. Sam jumped at the cursing. Travis wasn't usually this irritable.

"Whoa whoa whoa. Everyone, chill out. Now, can someone please explain this to me?" Sam asked calmly. Travis sighed.

"They're collecting a toll to go over the bridge. I've got the money, I just don't want to pay. They've got some powerful exotic pokemon…Hoenn ones I assume. Anyway, my Venusaur can't beat them so any ideas?" he explained. Sam thought it over. This could be a bit of a problem…maybe he could even the odds?

"Hmm…how about this? You all got any weaker pokemon? We fight you without our weaker pokemon, or in my case, my team. That sound fair enough? You win and we pay more than you ask, we win and you let us pass…fair?" Sam asked carefully. The men seemed to talk amongst themselves over this.

"Sam…you idiot…" Travis said angrily. He obviously had no wish to pay this toll…especially not twice the amount if they lost. Sam couldn't suppress a smirk. ''

"Oh chill, Travis. You're what…one of the top five strongest trainers in the Kanto region and I'm the strongest…what're the odds we'll lose to a few Hoenn punks?" he put his hands behind his head.

"Yeah...I suppose…" Travis sighed. A sudden outburst from the other three broke the short silence.

"That's fine. You'll fight my brother and me first…and if you somehow manage to defeat us, you will fight our oldest brother. Does that sound reasonable?" one of the younger two asked.

"Yeah…let's do this, Shroomish!" Sam threw out the pokeball containing the mushroom like pokemon.

"Fine…Tailow, let's do this!" Travis yelled, throwing a pokeball of his own. The small bird appeared, flapping wildly. Sam bent down next to Shroomish.

"Hey, buddy. This is an important fight…so listen. I'm gonna call you Spore, okay? That's your name from now on…it'll mess them up for sure!" he whispered. Spore nodded nervously, a worried look on its face.

"Let us begin! Pinsir!" one boy yelled, throwing a pokeball.

"And you, Scyther!" the other yelled. A large beetle-like pokemon appeared, followed by a green mantis pokemon. Both had dangerous looking body parts that would no doubt spell trouble for Sam and Travis.

"Let's get this started, then! Spore, use Tackle!" Sam yelled. Travis and the two boys all gave him an odd look but Spore understood perfectly. He leapt forward, hitting Pinsir hard in the stomach. Travis quickly understood.

"Alright! Follow up with Peck, Tailow!" he yelled. The bird flew forward, following the harsh tackle with a quick stab by its beak.

"What? Alright, no more mister nice guy! Vicegrip, Pinsir!" one yelled. The brown pokemon jumped forward and grabbed Spore with its spiky white antennae. The other brother quickly knew what to do.

"I follow you, brother, with Quick Attack!" he yelled. Scyther flew forward at top speed, aimed for Spore. Sam had to react quickly.

"Use Absorb on Pinsir!" he yelled. A green beam of light flew out of Spore and into Pinsir, quickly turning red. Pinsir loosened its grip in pain, just enough for Spore to escape. "Now follow up with a Tack-" Sam was cut off by Scyther's speedy move, which knocked Spore backwards a fair distance. It slid then started to cry. The brothers all laughed.

"You are pathetic! You train a pokemon with no talent or skills!" one laughed. Sam growled quietly at this, but Travis knew how to take advantage of it.

"You can laugh all you want at him, but you're still leaving yourself wide open! Use Peck again!" he yelled. Tailow flew forward and crashed hard into Scyther, who flew backwards to where it was hovering on the water.

"Okay then! Change of plans, leave the weakling and take the bird! Use Quick Attack, Scyther!" the one boy cried.

"Pinsir, back it up by using Seismic Toss on the Shroomish to hit the bird!" the other yelled. The large stag-beetle grabbed Spore and prepared to throw.

"Spore, hit it, fast! Absorb!" Sam yelled. Spore shook off the pain for half a second…all it needed, apparently, as Pinsir cried out in pain as the attack connected. Meanwhile, Tailow dodged an attack from Scyther, but had to keep moving to keep the others from hitting it. If only it had an opening…hmm, maybe Spore could give it just that. "Hit Pinsir with Tackle, but send it right at Scyther!" Spore nodded before backing up a step. It charged forward and smashed into Pinsir, who was sent flying straight at the mantis.

"Scyther! Look out!" its trainer cried a second too late. The mantis was hit, dealing damage to both pokemon. Scyther's feet skimmed the water but it was otherwise fine. Pinsir took the real damage from the move, landing in the water with a large splash.

"PINSIR!" its trainer cried. Sam sighed. They'd fallen for such a simple strategy…big talk for a couple of losers…

"Alright, Travis, let's keep it up! Spore, use Absorb!" Sam yelled. Spore nodded and the green light flew forward, hitting Scyther. It cried out in pain as its energy began to be drained away. This move wouldn't do much good...but it would leave Scyther wide open for attack.

"Okay then, use Focus Energy!" Travis yelled. An orange aura surrounded Tailow, which would make sure that this next hit was big. The light vanished as Spore took the last of the energy it could get from Scyther. Suddenly, Sam realized that Spore was not alone on the shoreline. Pinsir had somehow managed to get back up on shore and was about to attack.

"SEISMIC TOSS!" its trainer screamed. Spore was picked up by the powerful pokemon and hurled straight at Tailow. The collided, then landed with a smack on the bridge. Tailow had been crushed by the unfamiliar weight Spore provided.

    "Agh...not good..." Travis whispered.

"No joke...Pinsir's powerful and Scyther's fast. They use an offense just like ours...but there is a flaw..." Sam replied.

"Really? Care to enlighten me?" Travis asked sarcastically. Sam smiled.

"Sure...now listen carefully..." he quickly gave Travis the plan. Travis grinned when Sam finished.

"That could work..." he said, grinning still.

"Could? It has to or we're screwed..." Sam replied.

"Yeah, I guess...but it will. Alright, let's hit this! Tailow, show 'em Growl!" Travis yelled. Tailow growled sweetly, causing both opponents to back up a bit. Sam knew that part of this strategy was weakening any backlash they were going to feel. If everything worked out perfectly, they wouldn't have to at all but since when did things every work like that for him?

"Alright, Spore, hit Pinsir with Absorb!" Sam cried. The green light shot forward, hitting Pinsir, who was quickly unable to move.

"And now go in with Peck!" Travis yelled. Tailow nodded in before flying in, beak aimed for Pinsir.

"You just don't learn! Quick Attack, Scyther!" the one brother yelled. Scyther shot forward at Spore, who was completely unprotected. Sam and Travis both grinned.

"Figured you'd do that! Now, Tailow! Quick Attack!" Travis yelled. Tailow quickly turned around and flew backwards, crashing hard into Scyther, who flew back towards the shoreline about 10 feet from Pinsir.

"Now, Spore! Get behind Scyther!" Sam yelled. Spore nodded, then ran at top speed until it was on the line formed by Pinsir and Scyther.

"Tailow, you get there too!" Travis commanded. Tailow quickly made a fourth point on the line.

"What could they..." one of the brothers whispered.

"Now, full power! Tackle!" Sam yelled.

"Quick Attack!" Travis cried at the same time. Both pokemon rammed into their opponent, sending them flying. With a crack, Pinsir and Scyther collided. They fell to the ground knocked out.

"That's match!" Sam yelled as the brothers sadly returned their pokemon.

"Good work, Sam...but I don't think Tailow can go on..." Travis said. Sam sighed.

"I was afraid you'd say that...looks like I'm alone on this next one..." he whispered. "Oh, and return, Spore. Great job." The pokemon vanished into its pokeball in a flash of red light.

Okay then...Tailow's pooped and I'm down Spore. Fenrir and Cleff can do it...but what'll I be facing? Sam thought. He'd just have to wait and see...

  • Vs. Tyrogue

Kliff slowly opened his eyes that morning. He stretched with a groan and sat up, still tired. The outdoors wasn't as bad as he thought, but still nothing compared to a nice, warm room...

"You took your time," a familiar voice said. He turned and saw Lauren, sitting on a large rock eating a sandwich,

"Oh, yea. Heh," Kliff replied. He'd briefly forgotten that he was staying out here with her, "How long have you been up?"

"About ten minutes," she said before finishing her breakfast, "shall we go then?"

"Oh, sure! Just lemmie put all this stuff away..."

    ----------

Shortly afterwards, the two trainers found themselves at Rustborough's entrance. The town looked very impressive, just the place for a gym to be surely. Lauren grinned then took off into the place,

"Wait, don't you want that battle?" Kliff asked. She turned around,

"Oh yea! I totally forgot. Let's make it one on one, 'kay?"

"Sure," Kliff said. They both walked to an ideal patch of ground big enough. Both trainers stood at opposite ends, "after you." he said,

"Tyrogue, go!" Lauren called. She tossed the pokeball into the air, and a small figure shot out,

    "Ty!" it shouted confidently,

Kliff brought out one of his own pokeballs. Gella would probably be the safest bet to go by, but he wanted to put Rokko to the test - to see what he was really capable of.

"Let's go Rokko!" he said. The Zigzagoon burst from the ball and looked ready for battle. Kliff was about to give a command, however,

"Tyrogue, use Fake Out!" Lauren shouted first. Tyrogue dashed right infront of Rokko and brought each of its arms in to smack him in either side of the head. Rokko, momentarily stunned and deafened, lost balance, "Follow up with Tackle!" To ensure damage, Tyrogue then shoulder charged into Rokko, sending him flying backwards.

"C'mon Rokko! Use Tackle yourself!" Kliff commanded. However nothing happened - instead Rokko winced in pain, "Of course, Fake Out causes flinching. Good thing she can only use that technique once,"

"Use Tackle again Tyrogue!" Lauren called, sounding excited now. Tyrogue did as asked and ran for Rokko,

"Not so fast! Rokko, dodge!" Rokko snapped back into attention and just before the foe collided with him, he darted off to the side, zig-zagging away from danger. Within seconds he was a few meters away from Tyrogue,

"Now use Growl!" Kliff called over to him. Rokko bared his teeth and snarled viciously at Tyrogue. The fighting pokemon gave a look of worry as he backed away from the growling raccoon,

"Try Tackle now!" Kliff shouted. Rokko zoomed in low, ready to hit Tyrogue,

"Double Team!" Lauren hastily yelled, before Tyrogue concentrated and made multiple copies of itself. Rokko skid to a halt, looking in confusion as a dozen or so Tyrogues were dotted around him. Kliff cursed silently,

"It's a handy little TM I picked up along the way," Lauren said grinning, "How are you gonna find your way around this one?" she asked,

"I have my ways, Rokko! Use your speed and your zig-zagging thing to try and hit each one!" Kliff commanded in reply. Rokko shot off, darting quickly from one Tyrogue to the next. Shortly, the speeding Tackle attack connected with the real one, causing all copies to dissapear and sending it skidding backwards. Tyrogue shook it off,

"Use another Tackle attack!" Lauren shouted. Tyrogue ran for Rokko,

"Tail Whip!" Rokko jumped in the air above Tyrogue and did a forward roll, bringing its tail down to smack it in the back of the head. Tyrogue stumbled and fell over. Rokko landed and spun around again. Kliff grinned, "Tackle again!"

"Another Double Team!" Lauren shouted hastily. Just before Rokko rammed into Tyrogue, it used Double Team again, sending the raccoon flying through a transparent opponent and again finding itself surrounded by Tyrogues.

"That Zigzagoon's a tough nut to crack," Lauren said to Kliff with a laugh. He smirked,

"Well that Tyrogue's nothing to be messed with either." Although he didn't really like admitting it, he was in a tough spot. Rokko was getting pretty tired and what's more, he couldn't even hit Tyrogue properly without it just dissapearing like that. But Tail Whip had lowered its defense a bit. If he could just land a few more hits...

"Rokko! Same again, find the real one!" Kliff called out, feeling deviod of options. Rokko took to running from one Tyrogue to the next,

"Now Tyrogue, Tackle!" Lauren commanded. All of the Tyrogue copies charged in towards Rokko from all directions. At the last second, they all dissapeared, leaving one left, who slammed into Rokko hard. The Zigzagoon cried out in pain as it was hurled backwards,

"Ziiig..." it growled as it struggled to its feet. Kliff bit his lip, this was not looking good.

Lauren practically jumped as she realised she had Kliff on the ropes, "Do it again Tyrogue - Double Team then Tackle!" Tyrogue again created about ten or so illusions of itself, before each one ran for Rokko. Kliff panicked,

"Rokko, use Growl!" he shouted out. Rokko once more growled evily at the oncoming force, causing the real Tyrogue to panic and show itself,

"Now hit that one!" Kliff ordered, pointing at the intimidated Tyrogue. Rokko, head down, charged for the opponent, crashing into it with a thud. Tyrogue flew backwards, about to hit a tree, when suddenly,

"Counter it with your own Tackle Tyrogue!" Laured nearly screamed. Tyrogue masterfully flipped around in mid air, landing its feet on the tree trunk. It kicked off of it and flew right for Rokko, who didn't have time to react. With a loud whack, Tyrogue slammed into the Zigzagoon, sending him flying backwards. Rokko lay there unable to battle. Kliff's first loss.

"Alright!" Lauren called out exstatically. Tyrogue too gave a look of satisfaction and happiness as a result of its victory, "Return Tyrogue, you were great!" the small fighter got sapped back into the pokeball as Kliff walked over to Rokko. The small pokemon wearily looked up at him,

"Don't worry about it, you did your best," Kliff said patting him, "besides, you nearly had him. Return for now." He tapped the ball off of Rokko before he was sucked back inside.

Kliff walked back over to Lauren and held out his hand, " Well done," he said with a smile, "that was a good match."

Lauren shook his hand gently, "Thanks! I loved it, and so did Tyrogue!" she began walking towards the city, "Let's go to the Pokemon Centre,"

"Good plan," Kliff replied. His pokemon needed a proper rest.

    ----------

"Your Tyrogue's fully replenished," Nurse Joy said to Lauren, handing her pokeball back,

"Thank you," she replied. She clipped it to her belt before turning to Kliff, "Well, I'm off." she said, "I'm going to challenge the gym in town before I leave."

"Same here actually," Kliff said, still waiting on his pokemon.

"Listen, thanks for everything." Lauren said, "You didn't need to help me out yesterday you know,"

"Well I couldn't have just left you," Kliff said with a laugh. Lauren joined in aswell, "besides, I needed someone to talk to,"

"Yea," she replied, "Take this, and I guess I'll see you around." With that, she left the Centre and continued her journey.

Kliff looked at what she had just given him - it was a small piece of paper. He unfolded it and read. It was her phone number. He was slightly taken aback,

"Guess she just wants to keep in touch," he said, putting it in his pocket. Just at that, the nurse approached him,

"Here you go. Both Tangela and Zigzagoon are fully healed!" she said surprisingly cheerily, handing him two pokeballs,

"Thanks a lot," he said politely as he took the balls and clipped them to his belt. He picked up his bag and set foot outside into Rustborough City.

He planned on challenging the Gym. But first thing's first - he decided to explore town a little.

  • Cuddles pounced forwards, lashing out at the stumbling Ralts and sneered as its sharp claws skimmed the fluttering dress of the smaller Pokémon. The green-helmeted girl looked up, glaring from beneath its cover, before slowly staggering to its feet and raising its arms in a defensive stance. Cuddles sniggered at the idea that this weakling was even challenging it. For a moment, it considered smacking the Psychic-type around a bit, just to teach it a lesson. But no. That would just be sadistic. Cuddles turned to Warren, wandering over with the intention of smacking him back into wakefulness. Unfortunately, as it turned, it felt something very hot and very painful smack it in the small of its back and send it flying forwards to faceplant into the ground. Hard. Groaning, the bear clambered back to its feet and looked over its shoulder to see Ralts standing, grinning, by the fire. Clutched in its hands was a short, stout branch, pulled from the fire. Its end was ablaze and, unfortunately for cuddles, so was his fur. Realizing this just in time, the bear dropped onto the floor instantly, quenching the smouldering fur on its back. Standing once more, the Teddiursa looked over at the giggling Ralts, eyes ablaze. That little squirt was gonna pay for that. Leaping into action, Cuddles sped forwards, slashing madly with its claws. Ralts shrieked as it was struck again and again, before being sent flying by a vicious uppercut. Struggling to its feet, the Psychic-type raised its burning branch and swung at the bear. Cuddles yelped as it ducked under the flame, but the Ralts stepped forwards, sinning, and jabbed the ursine in the gut with the other end of the branch. Gasping for breath, Cuddles sank to one knee, clutching its stomach. Glaring up, it grimaced as Ralts stumbled back over to Warren and began to poke him sharply in the side. Warren responded in typical fashion by rolling over and snoring on. Ralts looked around, seeming a little frantic and Cuddles paused. Just what did it want, anyway? Ralts looked back as the bear stood up and raised its stick once more. Cuddles grimaced. Oh dear. Desperately raising its arms in defence, the Teddiursa was driven down on one knee as the burning branch smacked it dead on. This was going badly. The smaller Pokémon was destroying the bear – one strong push and it was done for. And then, just as Cuddles began to slip, it saw the shadows behind Ralts begin to move. The bear grinned as, with a menacing snarl on its face, Silver stepped out of the dry undergrowth, dropping at its feet a small….something that seemed to be bleeding profusely. Cuddles tactfully decided to ignore this as Ralts turned, grimacing as it swung the burning branch from side to side, unsure of whom to go for first. Cuddles paused, thinking desperately. Warren ad mentioned something about his moves. There was something about one of them. But what? As Ralts swiped at the wolf, Cuddles dived over to Warren and pulled his Pokedex out of his pocket, hoping that it was waterproof. It was. The bear grinned as the screen flickered on, poking randomly at buttons. Suddenly, a picture of itself flashed up. Cuddles grimaced as the screen filled with English text – to the Pokémon's eyes, it might as well have been gibberish. Cuddles pressed a random button and the dex began to speak as Silver flew through the air, pouncing at Ralts. Ignoring the duelling duo, Cuddles grinned as the dex began to recite a list of moves.
"Covet, Normal type. Scratch, Normal type. Fury Swipes, Normal-type. Lick, Ghost-type." Cuddles froze. Ghost type? Warren had been explaining the type differences earlier and, if he remembered things right, then Lick should be devastating. The bear turned and stepped forwards as Silver and Ralts sprung apart. Swinging wildly, Cuddles slashed the Ralts in the back as it faced Silver, sending it tumbling to the ground, the bear following swiftly after it and pinning it down. Silver turned and wandered back over to its food as Cuddles bent down over the quivering Ralts and, opening its mouth, smacked it straight across the face with its tongue. Ralts froze, glared angrily at Cuddles, then collapsed, unconscious. Cuddles grinned as it staggered back upright, then paused as it saw the Pokéballs on Warren's belt. Ralts weren't common by any means and Warren might finally be happy…but then again, it was a bit weird, for the Pokémon to do the catching. Cuddles paused as it picked up one of the Pokéballs. On the ground, Ralts stirred. Now or never. Grinning, the bear spun, jumped and brought both of its hands down in a double handed throw that sent the ball flying forwards, to strike Ralts directly in the face. The Psychic type froze as it vaporised into a flash of red light, which was instantly pulled into the ball. Cuddles grinned as it began to rock madly from side to side. After all this fuss, that damn Ralts had better stay beaten!

  • Chapter Four: Getting' Ziggy With It Part One

The ball shook once, twice, a third time…and then a fourth. The ball kept shaking and shaking, and didn't seem to want to stop any time soon. 'Obviously," the Pokedex grumbled. "It won't catch the Pokémon. You didn't weaken it enough. I mean seriously, a Thundershock?" And with that, the ball clicked- the Surskit had been caught. "Oh COME ON!" The Pokedex yelled. Jazmine giggled.

"I…I caught it….I caught...my first Pokémon!" She said, triumph flashing across her face. "But…is it okay? Can it breathe in there!? MY POKEMON ISN'T DEAD IS IT!?" She panicked, shaking the Pokedex.

"Hey, cool it, if someone sees you talking to a battery-run machine, they'll think you're crazy. Now, I doubt that it's dead-don't you ever watch television?" The Pokedex responded, annoyed.

"Well…" Jazmine answered, embarrassed. "Yeah. Sorry, I kind of…freaked out...a little bit. And now I just…pick it up?"

"Yes. Pick it up, and put it somewhere safe….you could really use a backpack or something. Now, I'm off to sleep. Do whatever you want next." The Pokedex's voice trailed off, and the small red button in the corner's light went out. Jazmine wondered how a Pokedex could go to bed, but wasn't to concerned. She proceeded up the route, and the trees seemed to be growing thicker. A small voice spoke in the back of her mind, a chattering noise…something wasn't right.

'It's like I'm forgetting something…hmm, what could it-'And then she realized. She had left the Pokeball and basket behind! Spinning on her heels, she quickly ran back to where the Pokeball lay, on the grassy ground. Halfway there, she ran into Pichu- which, she realized, was where the chattering had come from. The electric mouse was heaving the basket along. The two glanced at each other. Then, they both burst out laughing. "Come on you." Jazmine said, scooping up Pichu and putting her in the basket. She then picked up the basket, and continued back along the way. Once more, the forest seemed to thicken. Jazmine looked around, and spotted a tiny wood sign. 'Petalburg Forest' it read. "Well, at least we're on the right track." Jazmine said, glancing down at Pichu. She was already asleep. Jazmine sighed. Now she had no protection from whatever could be in this forest. She could send out Surskit, but where would that get her? Sprawled on the ground with a lump on her head? Yeah, that idea was out.

So Jazmine walked along in silence, the trees forming a dome above her, occasionally rustling due to the wind, or some creature. The forest was rather straightforward as well- no twists, turns, or forks in the path, and no trainers blocking her way. 'This is rather nice, no one to bother me here. Besides, I've never actually battled a trainer before. But of course, when something can go wrong, it will…' She thought. All of a sudden, she heard a clunking noise coming from up ahead. 'God, I have the WORST luck. It's like everything I think…actually happens. So maybe…. I think this thing will be an incredibly hot dude that is lost and looking for Rustburo, and needs assistance from a cute young girl like me.' Jazmine smiled at the thought, squeezed her eyes shut, and walked a few yards. The blinked open.

"Does it usually take you that long to blink?" A repulsing high-pitched voice said, loud and squeaky. Standing in front of Jazmine was a boy, surprisingly. He had short, bright red hair that was spiked near the front of his head, and was cut around his ears. He had a flat nose, that was abnormally small, and round, dark-brown eyes, that had a certain light in them. He was wearing a robe that matched his eyes, and was lined with black. But the most drawing feature to this boy was his height…or rather, the height he didn't have. The only reason that the boy was as tall as Jazmine, were his shoes, the source of the clanking noise. They were about as tall as him- and were made entirely of wood.

Jazmine sighed, disappointed. "No, actually, I don't. Now, what are those…shoes for?" She asked, expecting him to go into a schmeel about his height. Instead, he answered,

"They are to keep the wild Pokémon away. But I'd believe that stench radiating from you has been doing it to every Pokémon within a three-mile radius, so I should be just fine. What are you called, anyways?"

"Um...my name is Jazmine, if that's what you ar-"

"Oh, I'd imagine you would have a much more exotic title. My name is Ninjalphabetti. I am proud to hold such a nice name."

"Uh...no offense but, was your mother in a coma when she named you? Because I would definitely never name anyone…that. It sounds like a kind of disease or something."

Ninjalphabetti gave Jazmine a hard glare. "How DARE you insult my NAME!" He cried. He tossed out a Pokeball into the air, and out of it came a small fury Pokémon, with zig-zaggy fur that was striped, and brown. Jazmine's Pokedex crackled to life.

"Zigzagoon. The Tinyraccoon Pokémon. Its ability, Gluttony, will make an effect of a berry kick in earlier than usual. It is a normal type."

"Say hello…" Ninjalphabetti said, a smile flashing quickly across his determined-looking face. "To Ziggy. Ziggy-Y."
