    tbh anna
i assume that if pokemon can speak the human language
    they can read it
    writing is a different story
speaking isnt hard for the most part

yeah but what abt pokemon that cant speak? are they limited not by their intelligence but by their physiology?

i'll answer that question with another interesting question
since smeargle cant talk, do you think it can write in the human langauge because it can also draw?

if it takes the time to learn how i believe it can
i think most any pokemon can learn to somehow form letters and write
clumsily, perhaps, but they could certainly
if they are so intelligent to understand intricate commands
they could certainly learn reading and writing

    discuss

The thing is we don't really know how intelligent Pokemon really are. Even our knowledge of the intelligence of real life animals is limited. My thought is that Pokemon can understand commands and at least some human language depending on how they are trained and how much they interact with humans. Being able to read and write is a different skillset from understanding the language though. I don't think they could write, but I suppose they could be taught to read human language if trained to, or at least they could be trained to be able to respond to written words read like some service dogs and other service animals are.

C'mon, if you're talking about Alakazam, that thing can use a spoon. So why not a pen?

If Pokémon in the Mystery Dungeon universe and Meowth from the anime can, I don't see why others can't.

I'd imagine Smeargle being someone who can write with its tail. But a Psychic-type Pokemon can probably draw with their minds, and that includes writing.

i feel like writing isnt particularly limited by the pokemon's motor skills really? like, writing on a piece of paper like how we do, only a few can do that for sure. but taking a stick and drawing letters in the dirt, or fingerpainting it? i think a lot of them could do that.
