Chain fishing was introduced in Gen 6 and allowed the player to sit in one spot, keep landing fish, and increase the chances of encountering a shiny Pokemon.

Have you bothered with this feature? Have you had any luck? Got any cool shinies from it?

I've never been able to truly try it out since I don't own the games (I played a friends game for about five minutes but didn't get to try it out), but it sounds like something I'd like to try. Seems easier than the PokeRadar chaining method.

This probably doesn't count, but I tried it in my hack and my chain kept breaking. So maybe it isn't as easy as I thought.

Anyway, I'd like to know your thoughts.

I haven't done it myself but I have seen people do it.

It seems like a cool way to get shinies, not the most efficient but what is.

I never did chain fishing yet, because it's hard if you don't land a bite. Having a Pokemon with Suction Cups leading the party does help though.

I've tried it and let me tell you, it's torture. You chain will never break at the start but once you're really far in to it an you're feeling awesome about yourself, snap. there goes the chain :P I've also tried chaining with the DexNav and I find it to be much easier. I hear it's more efficient too but I've never had the patience to do it long enough to get a shiny xD

That sounds really terrible! I hate when that happens! Would you say it's less or more tortuous than PokeRadar chaining?

I've never chain fished before, and am not sure if I ever will. I don't have the patience to sit in the same spot all day trying to find a shiny. Maybe it would be better with a Shiny Charm, but shiny hunting has never really been my thing anyway.

Holy muk, chain fishing is relaxing next to PokeRadar chaining >~< PokeRadar chaing involves so much focus making sure you step on exactly the right patch on grass and then you've even got to count your steps so you don't leave the 9x9 space O.o Chain fishing is easier, it's just that reflexes often fail me and it breaks the chain xD DexNav chaining is the easiest though :P

All those memories of wasted time are flooding back to me... So much time spent on PokeRadar chaining that I could have spent doing something productive.... Such wasted potential...

Oh well, I can't say I didn't have a little fun with it.

I had a lot of fun trying to chain xD It was annoying and I wanted everything to die but it was kind of fun. Sort of like the Mach bike puzzle in Sky Pillar (that was really fun :P)

I know there are a handful of people out there who have done chain fishing, and I haven't tried it myself, but there are some nice shiny Pokémon that admittedly would be cool to get, like Clawitzer. I did get a shiny Relicanth once but it was not intentional and I don't think that was at all related to chain fishing (it was during a Nuzlocke, and probably less than 10 I had chained then).
