I think he'll finally come back, probably when Ash reaches the League. Charizard has got to be everyone's favourite Pokemon of Ash's, and it's high time they brought him back!
They didn't bring him back and Sinnoh so why now? Ash has a team of 9 so if he gets 3 more he could have a two team rotation so really there wouldn't be much of a point to bring pokes back for the league. Maybe if they have some after the league battle frontier like arc. He already has enough pokemon to deal with they don't need to add any more.
If he actually gets to the Championship match of the league I could see him use his Big Guns like Charizard, Sceptile, Pikachu, Snorlax, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Infernape, Torterra. But I think he will stick with Unova, until post-league. Shoot I'd rather see Gible so we can see it evolve into Gabite then maybe on day Garchomp.

I agree with this. There really isn't a point for him to return, especially since the writers are piling on new Pokemon for Ash in the hopes he'd have enough to use in the league without leaning on his previous region Pokemon. And I just don't see a reason for Charizard to return besides Ash possibly returning to Johto to actually challenge The Frontier Brains. OR god forbid he actually wins this league, he could use the above Pokemon as a powerhouse to win but I honestly don't see him returning for a long while.
Torterra? A big gun? .-.If he actually gets to the Championship match of the league I could see him use his Big Guns like Charizard, Sceptile, Pikachu, Snorlax, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Infernape, Torterra. I don't see your point. I would think the fact that Charizard never got a chance to shine in Sinnoh would increase its chances of appearing in a future league. There is a point in bringing back Ash's older Pokemon. The main reasons are continuity and fanservice. Letting the classics appear once again is like a nod to the long-time viewers of the anime. It reminds us that Ash is not some new trainer from Unova; he's a veteran trainer with a huge arsenal of powerful (Well, they might not be that powerful anymore.) Pokemon from across the world. It's just too bad that Ash is ignoring his "friends".
Likewise, I would love to see some of my old favorites like Kingler and Tauros get a chance at glory again, but they may never get a battle for a long time. When you really look at it, there really isn't a chance that Charizard or any previous Pokemon returning for this league because of how much they're heavily focusing on the region Pokemon. They reset the routes, the moved this region far away and basically reformatted things, which is a clear sign that they want to move on from the previous sagas. I'm honestly seeing it by how the writers are going about the latest saga. I don't see a window for Charizard or any previous Pokemon. And as for giving a nod to the long-time viewers, that's rare if anything, and when they do it, it's to benefit or promote something else. As much as i'd love to see past Pokemon of Ash's, I just don't see it.
As a long time fan, yes i'd love to see it. But also rationally, no, I don't see them coming back. There's a clear distinction of what I want to happen and what i'll know will happen.
Likewise, I would love to see some of my really old favorites like Kingler and Tauros get a chance at glory again, but they might never get to battle ever again.
Still, I find it funny how Ash is portrayed as a loving and affectionate trainer when he Oaks every single one of his Pokemon (Besides Pikachu) after a certain period of use. I would think a loving and affectionate trainer would release them or give them away so they could actually do something again. I guess Ash is too busy with his new friends to care.
Which is why I said "They didn't bring him back and Sinnoh so why now?". I don't see him coming back, and no point when Ash already has an abundance of pokes to use in this Saga. And yes Torterra did lose all it's matches as Torterra so probably not the best example. If he does bring back pokes the I would prefer to see the Sinnoh pokes get a chance to battle post league arc.Charizard is most likely never coming back; this is the sad reality of the Pokemon anime. It's just out with the old and in with the new. Sure, people are ecstatic about the Unova Pokemon and the new characters right now, but in a few years they'll all be forgotten and replaced by newer Pokemon and character. The fact that Ash has already caught quite a few Unova Pokemon and that Black and White are trying to emphasize a fresh take on the anime makes it evident that the classic Pokemon will probably never get to battle in this league.

If we get a post-league saga with older Pokemon we'll probably see Gible. I think it's safe to say that post-league is our only chance of seeing any of the classic Pokemon.

I don't see why Ash couldn't use Charizard in the Unova League, I mean - It's a rare pokémon to the Unova region, pretty much like all his others, so I don't see why they can't put Ash's others in their too.
I don't really see how having quite a few Unova pokémon caught already really makes a difference to me. I mean, come on - however many he manages to catch in Unova, there are still going to be plenty of battles and trainers in the league, he won't have much luck with just those, just look at Hoenn.
Leave Torterra alone, in my opinion it was just handled badly. It is a powerful Pokémon in it's own right, we just didn't see enough of it after it evolved.
There may be many Pokémon Ash hasn't touched or developed much, but I don't think thats a reason to put them into the League, they're just too weak, I would go for more like Post ark. I wouldn't be suprised if he pulled a Phanpy with Gible and brought it along with him for a bit and it could evolve.
On the actual topic, I would much rather see Charizard return in a movie, take the third movie as an example. I don't see why it would be a bad idea.
Johto was a mess, period. I'm sort of disappointed that Cyndaquil evolved. It felt so random and Ash hardly even used him after that. I thought they handled Phanpy's evolution pretty well. If I were in charge I would probably do something similar to Pokemon Special. I would have a new protagonist for each saga, but the old ones would still appear from time to time. It's sad that we probably won't unless there's a remake of a game or something. There are alot of Pokemon who were really cheated out a development, for example Gible and Quilava (that little return was nothing for me.) Johto was the most undeveloped region ever, if you ask me.
If I were in control of the series, I'd have Ash go back to Kanto/Johto to try winning the league (I'm sure you're allowed to do it. I've never heard a rule against him retrying.) Perhaps he challenges the Johto and challenge the frontier brains which would give him the opportunity to use a rotation of his Kanto/Johto team with obvious little addition from Hoenn/Sinnoh/Unova. Aw, I should write my own fanfiction of Ash or someone else challenging the Johto Frontier Brains. XD
I still think the fact that he didn't appear in Sinnoh increases his chances of appearing in a future league. Let's say Ash decides to use his older Pokemon in the Unova league. The Pokemon that battled in Sinnoh probably have a lesser chance of appearing just because they appeared recently. And again, the point of bringing back old Pokemon is to provide fanservice and a sense of continuity in the anime.Which is why I said "They didn't bring him back and Sinnoh so why now?". I wouldn't say they're never coming back, they just probably won't come back for the Unova league. I'm sure they might get a chance to battle again if we have a post-league saga. Just look at all the older Pokemon in Unova after the E4.I loved Charizard and he is my favorite pokemon, but he and the other old pokemon are not ever coming back, since Pokemon Black and White are entire new reboot for the pokemon anime.
I agree. Unova is being handled very similar to Hoenn. They were both reboots of the franchise that focused on the "new". GSC and DPPt felt like they were expanding on what was already there, rather than trying to revolutionize things. Not to say they were bad generations, they just weren't reboots. I think Unova's focus on the new destroys that tiny glimmer of hope for Ash's classic Pokemon to reappear for this league.I see what you mean but when you compare previous regions to Unova, it seems the writers are speeding up things up so Ash relies only on his rotation team. Like, Sinnoh had a slow progress and the team got more and more powerful but it seems they're moving things along quite swiftly so come the league, Ash will have a powerhouse of Pokemon to use for the league. Honestly, there aren't many openings for previous Pokemon since they seem to want to focus on the new region Pokemon. They have enough on their plate to get each Pokemon enough screen time without having to worry about bringing in older Pokemon. It just doesn't seem to fit in at all.
The pace the current saga is going, I can just see Ash having a host of powerful Pokemon on hand for him to use. It's only 36+ episodes in and already he has about nine and they're quite strong. They haven't even entered the second season and already the team shows alot of promise. At the rate the writer are going, I just don't see Ash really needing to bring back any Pokemon.
Although Charizard would be a massive addition to the team, it would seem quite pointless (besides pleasing the older fans, that is.) to have him appear in just the league. From where i'm sitting, I just don't see it at all. As for him appearing in the future, it's possible and I hope they do it. A movie featuring Charizard heavily would be pretty awesome.
Ash's old pokemon are not coming back since he have caught a whole lot of Unova pokemon and they will be the focus in the Unova league,we don't really know for sure what will happen after this region is done with.

What's with everyone assuming they know everything that will happen this season?
Here's an explanation for why Ash has been capturing more than 6 pokemon in this region: PAUL. He learned the benefit of rotating his team from Paul. Did you honestly think that Ash learned nothing from those experiences? That it was just an excuse to run that same tired old theme of the rival learning to treat his pokemon with respect and all that?
You can quote me on this, and I will stake my reputation on it: ASH'S OLD POKEMON WILL MAKE A RETURN IN THE UNOVA LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS. Regardless of the reboot, if they expected you to forget that he has other pokemon, they'd have expected you to forget about Team Rocket as well.
Also, Gible must never evolve and Charizard is Ash's second strongest pokemon. There I said it.
