Contests

With today's exciting news (HOENN HYPE), how likely is it that contests will be making a return to the anime? I mean, they're probably gonna be in the games (and if they're not im gonna cut someone) and we have Serena interested in fashion and the Idol career path- which does overlap some with contests. So will we end up with another Coordinator on our hands?

 

[Hiatus]

I loved seeing May participate in contests in Advanced Generation; it was sort of tiring to always see Ash battle in gyms and whatnot, so that definitely gave us some breath of fresh air. Seriously wouldn't mind if they brought it back. Hopefully, this would give them a reason to have May make appearances again. She's one of my all-time favorite characters, right beside Brock, Drew, and Misty, so if they did, I would be very, very happy. :]

Unfortunately, her Japanese VA retired, so we're not going to see May again, seeing as Japan will never replace voice actors unlike the U.S.

That said, I'm expecting only one Contest-centric episode as part of the Hoenn remake promotion much like how they had one Pokelathon episode in DP.

But PokéAthlon wasn't a huge hit really and like. It was only in one place; there weren't events all over the region. And PokéStar Studios got a significant amount of screentime and practically nobody liked that lmao. And Contests were so huge, and they were really successful in the anime for two generations. I don't see why they would be featured for like just one episode or neglected entirely.

I'm not sure what to think. I can't see Serena becoming a full-time coordinator because contexts weren't a thing in give XY games. If anything, there may be an episode or two with a context but I think Ash would be more likely to participate since he has tried them in earlier seasons. I understand the popularity of contests but the focus will be more on XY's features and not on ASΩR's features imo.

Serena really does strike me as someone who would be into contests or fashion at the very least, kind of like Dawn, so I'm absolutely itching to see contests make a return. As someone who found the contest aspect of the Hoenn saga the best part of the series - more so than gym fights - it'd be a very welcome addition to bring back.

But I also agree on where Wobbu's coming from since we don't have contests in X/Y and yeah. :( So I don't really expect it but nonetheless it's a nice thing to think about.

I personally do see them doing something with Hoenn, but I can't see anyone on the current lineup getting into Contests. It's possible, but just seems unlikely. I could see Eureka getting excited and dragging them to one, and perhaps something coming out of that, though. Whether it means someone doing a contest or not would be hard to say.
