For sure, I think the battle backgrounds got some serious improvements from X and Y, even though I think it's the same engine. The one for Mudkip looked especially nice! Now after re-watching it, I'm even more in awe of the graphics. The wait for these games to be released will be extremely painful :[

One of them showed a coastal town in the background, I'm assuming that's Slateport considering we battle at the beach nearby against those beach goers.

Certainly some great stuff. I'm probably going to watch that trailer at least a hundred times before the next release, to be honest. Too much to take in after just one viewing, haha. I can't decide what my favorite part of it was; everything was so wonderful. Really like what they've done to slightly improve the areas like Cycling Road, Fortree, and others that they showed in the trailer.

Has anyone seen the Hoenn map on the official site? It looks rather square...but anyways I wish I could zoom it to check out any new areas. Also they're covering up where the BF should be with clouds...to surprise us?
To be fair, Hoenn was originally very square.

Yeah, but the original map had more curves, this one is far more box like. It's even more straight lined than my own redrawing of maps I've drawn (it's easier to draw straight lines than trying to remake the curves one originally drew)...far more.

They also seem to be hiding Sky Pillar behind clouds. So all of the emerald things are covered up.

Yep agree with CycloneGU, Hoenn was very square but oh well. Can't see any new areas really :/

It could be that this is the map you see at the start of the game, and other areas later reveal themselves through exploration. Maybe Sky Pillar shows up out of the ground or something after an event, or offscreen after you beat the E4 (since it wasn't seen until after the E4 before).

I think they're just hiding the BF and Sky Pillar for us to learn about post game. Well for those of us who played the original Hoenn (or for those who looked it up too) we know about those areas already xD. A pillar that massive rising from the sea and the ground...that would be awesome to see but I think they will just block off the path with a rock like in the originals and simply use the excuse of the earthquake/waves caused it to become open.

I honestly don't like the new map. It is Minecraft-styled. Everything looks so small, even the unused islands have shrunk and became squared.

There are a few new things on the map; Building on Route 123, Cave on Route 105, way more sandbanks and rocks in the sea routes, Rustboro has an expansion at the northwest, small mountain across Route 111 and some eerie purple void above Lilycove.

Is this the map you are speaking of?

Yeah.
Anyways does anyone see that thing north of Lilicove? What could it be? It looks like an island with a tall peak but covered in dark clouds. I don't think it's simply clouds as the rest are all white.

- Route 123 may be the daycare you're thinking of.
- 105 had a Regi cave.
- There were always little islets on the water Routes. They didn't appear on the original minimap, and this one can give more detail.
- That "expansion" is Route 116. It's original. (EDIT: That's east, you might mean the small islands along Route 115.)
- Route 111 has a desert area. There was a mountain between the main Route and the desert, and the entrance is inaccessible without an item.
- Purple void might be the Magma/Aqua HQ.

EDIT: I notice the island in the lower-right covered by clouds. There's some new secret there, I will warrant.

The map does look square, though it also looks exactly like the original. This could be a single artist's view of Hoenn.

I LOVE that there is more land on the water routes! I thought that would be the best way to fix the water problem. Lets hope there is actually stuff on those sand banks. Like grass, items and trainers NOT using water pokemon.

Does anyone else think the dark area in the map is a new area? It look ominous like the portal to to the Reverse world in Platinum. I think it may be a new area that has something to do with Mega Evolution or the Ancient Devolution, or both.

I agree, but oh well. At least it ain't a circle like Kalos and Unova.

anyone knows if the room with some trainers and cylindrical platforms is either the rock or electric gym?

The other place that shows a falling pit I'm pretty sure it's the fire gym of lavaridge town.

Lavaridge is due south of the volcano; you can see the hot spring which is connected to the Pokémon Center. Go too far south and you hit Route 117 connecting Rusturf Tunnel and Mauville City.

The HQ though is seen on the map, it's the small cavern by Lilicove, it's still there. So that could be where the evil team will maybe activate the Ancient Evolution. It even looks like it has some symbol of some sort. One can also make out a silhouette of an island.

The Lower-right would be where the Batter Frontier/Tower is suppose to be. I did say that it was being hidden by cloud after all xD.
