6th Gen Could the DexNav be the reason for the gold rings?

Okay, so this is all just assumption, presumption and conjecture, but could the reason Gamefreak went with the Gold Rings to battle the legendaries be the DexNav? Cause when you encounter pokemon in towns just standing there, the Dexnav reads them and gives information about them, but with the Gold Rings there is nothing for it to read and when you battled Kyogre/Groudon your DexNav got shorted out so all you see is static.

If they were read as wild pokemon on the DexNav could you potentially have used the Dexnav to keep leaving and coming back to the area to get better stats, or even hidden abilities? Yes, it's true that you need to have captured at least one for the Pokemon info to start showing up in the DexNav, but that's very easily doable thanks to poke bank and poke transfer, so even if transferring multiple of the same legendary may not increase your search level (I don't know if it would or not) getting one would make it show up as level 1 at least, so even then you might be able to get a slim chance of being able to increase your odds of getting beyond 3 perfect IVs or even the hidden ability if applicable.

Obviously storyline wise it's going to end up having something to do with Hoopa, but in terms of the mechanics of the game, do you think this is why they went with portals instead of interacting with the pokemon themselves? Or do you think it will end up being solely story related and when the actual event happens it will all make sense?

I think it's a decent explanation. However, it could have just as easily been designed so that the DexNav... didn't short out. So maybe the two things came hand in hand. Perhaps there was no desire to create overworld sprites for such large, detailed Pokemon - especially the Legendaries within the rifts and clouds in the sky - so the gold ring + portal mechanic idea sprung up, and the DexNav had to be made to "short out" to explain why it was impossible to register the Legendaries' presence.

Here's another idea. The portals, different (old-gen) battle themes and all imply these legendary Pokemon are coming from different dimensions. That may be enough to screw up the DexNav which relies on its surroundings and what is in it; if stuff is really coming in from other dimensions, it may just give up trying to find wild Pokemon for you and short out.

What bobandbill said kinda rings true - since there are legendary Pokémon that come from other regions that might have been where the gold rings may have spawned from. Either that or the mirage spots that appear everywhere.
