Would it be possible to put a sort of alternate creativity forum (mostly music, probably) under creative discussions? There is 'Life, The Universe, and Everything' for sharing whatever you find on the internet, but I think artists of the media would greatly appreciate their creativity being noticed in the correct forum.

Only problem I see is inactivity because I'm sure there are a lot more visual artists and writers. In that case, my suggestion would be to allow compositions and etc. in a subforum under art gallery, or something, since the main art forum itself doesn't allow music. Or better yet, just allow music in the main forum.

D: I dunno, I just felt kind of bad musicians have nowhere to go here. Q_Q; Thank you for your time.

Anything can be labelled as an art, Zeffy. I agree with Lily's suggestion for a new forum (I've written a couple if indie folk/baroque pop songs that I think would be cool to showcase) but activity would be a really big issue... I don't know how many creative musicians there are on PC so such a forum dying very quickly is a very possibly scenario.

    I know that. =S

But I don't think that a subforum of that would get much activity. If its just lyrics and no melody/hymn/notes/whatever yet, then it can go through the Poetry section. So all in all, I still think that music being allowed in Art Gallery is one alternative if the subforum doesn't work.

I would imagine that Culture & Media would essentially cover what you're asking for- a place for music/musicians. Or maybe the Creative Writing boards? You could post lyrics there, just ask Astinus.

I was under the assumption Culture & Media was for discussing the arts in general, not somewhere you can showcase them. Lyrics alone without the music would definitely be placed in the poetry section. I'm talking more about the actual composed music itself.

Activity would definitely be an issue, which is why I suggested maybe letting music in the art forum in the first place. >_<

I agree that music should be allowed in the Art Gallery. We can have the "what is art" debate, but there are very few people who claim that music isn't a kind of art, so I'm not sure what that would accomplish. I do worry about activity in the forum, so the best option would be to open up the Art Gallery a bit. I mean, look at the rules - every other thing disallowed has an area for it. It is pretty unfair and shouldn't be left as it is, whether it's making another forum for it or relaxing the rules a bit.

C&M could just have a sticky for your own creations, which allows you to discuss in the thread, while allowing the main part of the forum to cover more commercialised forms of media.

I was just thinking about something like this like maybe in the music section, AMV makers can place there as well although there is a group for that but I can actually see it in the music section. Other then that I like this idea and support it.

That's what I noticed. It's almost like "You want this? Here! How about this? Here! Music? GTFO!" (I know that isn't the intention, but you catch my drift, right? It might be construed that way. :\) I support the idea of music being allowed in the art section, because really, it's like we are excluding musician's form being able to share their works. :\

Music composition is so different from visual arts that it would feel awkward to see them mingled together under the umbrella of the Art Gallery. Songwriters/musicians having their own forum separate from the visual art and writing sections seems like the best option.

Activity may be an issue at first, but once it gets a foothold, there will be people joining the site just for the music section. Besides, I know that there are several talented composers and songwriters on PC, we just have to draw them out of the woodworks. I know there's at least one music showcasing thread a week in either the Pokemon gaming or Pokemon General sections that I have to begrudgingly report because there's no place for it. :/

I would probably see this in Culture Media. I agree that it shouldn't quiet be in the Art section since it's not dealing with drawing or animation. It's music and isn't Culture Media a discussion place for Music, movies, etc? It would fit in just find in that section.

You know what? I honestly believe it wouldn't kill the mods of AG or C&M to make allowances for presenting Musical works of art.

It's pathetic that they actually disallow it now, I think the H-staff and the mods of those sections need to get together and decide now on how they're going to classify those threads so people have the ability to showcase their hard work. Art is art...but it's not really art at all if you have no place to show it to the masses to be appreciated or unappreciated. There really should be a place for this already considering the outcry I've been hearing about this lately. (And honestly, I don't even frequent those sections!)

Culture & Media has always been where you post your music, unless its strictly lyrics. Then that belongs in Other Writing or something. People get the impression that it's not allowed because nobody ever posts their own work. But really, it's allowed. I've always said this and it's in the rules and everything. Hell, I don't personally even care if you're just linking a bunch of YouTube videos and whatnot in the thread. You made the song, you worked hard on the song, YouTube is a form of sharing, so you should be able to post it and let the lyrics and the song speak for itself rather than writing an essay about it and what it's about. :|

Though I agree that music is a form of art -- especially since it's a branch of the fine arts. We just don't have enough people who actually make music to have a dedicated forum for that.

You never know. We would have to see just how many more people are interested in it- and maybe try a pilot project and launch the section in the Art Gallery section for a month and see how it flies.
Uhhh, yes I would know. lmao. Trust me, there isn't enough activity in that field to warrant it's own forum. No matter how much I agree that there should be a dedicated forum for it to encourage people to post what they have, two or three threads are made a month in Culture & Media of someone showcasing their work, and it often goes unappreciated and ignored. But regardless, the Art Gallery isn't a place for it. That's for visual arts. I'd support a new forum under Creative Discussions if there was enough activity to warrant it, but there isn't.

Though what Nica suggested is something that I'd like to do. Hmmm... if that thread is active enough, perhaps I'll bring up creating a designated forum for it, branch out the replies to the thread into single threads for each artist and let it run like the way Fan Fictions are run, of sorts.

From what I've seen of the people who do post their music - either directly in C&M or somewhere else but it gets moved to C&M - they get no responses. Before talk of a specialised sub-forum should arise, there should at least be a small-but-loyal community of people using the existing C&M framework, in order to warrant future discussions of a separate forum.

Although, considering people seem to think that it IS currently against the rules to post stuff like this, maybe more could be done to advertise. A contest in C&M or something to get budding musicians to stretch their musical muscles, or something else that at least makes people aware of what they can do?

Advertising / Contests is an interesting idea, and maybe we could make the description a bit more clear. Culture & Media's description does say 'Performing arts', but people probably tend to assume that it means discussion of popular music artists. D; If it could be worded differently, then maybe it would clear up some confusion?

If we can get an increase of band / song writing / violin playing threads, etc, then that might prove that it could hold up it's own sub-forum. Though, we need to start with making it more clear that those types of threads are allowed in that area, and if they get popular enough, then they get popular enough, and we can do something about it.

Lets see if this thread gets to a lot of pages before deciding, I vote for temp thread in Other Chat in meanwhile as there isn't a place for it at the moment :(
