It always takes me awhile to type my posts... but then again when you think about it, it makes sense cuz they're usually really long. Kinda like this one... it'll be really long! But I'd feel bad not responding to Jordan's last post since I was tired and went to sleep before he got a chance to reply... but I'll try to make it as short as possible...
I guess there really isn't anything wrong with starting band as a junior... it would just feel awkward. Especially since I haven't played the flute in two years. But I'm almost positive it would mess up my schedule. Chorus is last period... but hopefully next year it won't be. But I think band meets earlier in the day, but I'm not sure. Plus my schedule is already tight and I don't want to have to move things around. My schedules for the last three years have had to messed with. Except this year I couldn't get it fixed the way I wanted it to. But it actually worked out for the better. Every other year the chorus and band go on a trip. Last year we went to Williamsburg, VA. Next year I heard rumors that we're either going to Disney World in Orlando or Texas. But those are just rumors. And yeah, they do cost a lot of money... but it's not just a random trip for fun... it's a competition too. But they do allow us to do fund-rasing stuff to help pay for our trips so that helps a lot.
I'm pretty sure I don't have a great singing voice. How I ended up singing solos I don't know. My friend and I used to do them. She would sing one verse and I would sing the other. I'm afraid to watch those old tapes of it though. I have no idea what I sounded like when I was in 5th and 6th grade. But I doubt it was good. I don't really mind singing in a choir though... as long as I'm not alone. I actually think I've become more outgoing as I've gotten older... but then I look back at the solos and rethink it.
And yes, I went to school today. My fever is gone... at least I think so! I'm pretty sure it was gone yesterday too. My throat, however, still hurts. I went to go say something to my friend this morning and nothing would come out. But it's not as bad as before. Chorus wasn't fun though. Of course on the one day my voice doens't want to work is the day we spend the whole period working on the song with all the high notes in it. Ah well... hopefully I'll get better soon!
I found out some good news today though! There's rumors going around that my last day will be June 18 instead of June 21! Sure it's only one less day but now we get out on a Friday instead of Monday! But the elementary and middle schools still get out on that Monday. Hopefully this is all true!
Wow that's a long post! I told you it would be! It took me about a half hour to do it too! Wow...
Okay... my sister plays the clarinet but she rents it. I do own my flute though so that's why my mom didn't want my sister playing the clarinet. We don't have any contract thing like you do... I don't think. We have to rent it by year. But I really was pretty bad at the flute. I could never get the fingerings for the really high notes. I even had trouble reading the high notes. I hated having to play on my own. When we tested... or when we were supposed to test... we wouldn't play in front of the band or anything like that. We would have to go into the back room alone and play in front of a video camera for my teacher to evaluate later. I actually think it's worse that way. But then again, I wouldn't know since I never actually tested!100marios said:Your sister went for the clarinet? It is kinda nice that she is playing a different instrument though. It adds more variety! A flute layer and a clarinet player! Did you buy the clarinet too?
The flutes were probably the best section of the whole band in my middle school! They always seemed to go first! The same thing happened to us, the tenor saxes. Sometimes we were the last section, and he would forget about us. It's not like I was complaing though hehe....I hated doing the tests. Having everyone stare at you play seemed to make my playing worse.
Schedule issues, tell me about it. It took 2 months before they were able to switch me out of that beginning band class. I really don't see anything wrong with going to band as a junior, but if it messes up your schedule then that's a different story. A trip? That sounds cool! Where are you going to go? I never went on any of the band trips. They cost too much money...
It's hard to judge whether you have a good voice yourself. I'm sure you have a great singing voice!
....you're going to go to school tomorrow? Oh, by the way, how are you feeling? Do you still have a fever? Hopefully that's gone by now...
I'm not sure if the singing will help your throat a lot. It would seem as if it would make things worse.
Ah, you sang solos? Wow! I was a lot bolder in elementary school, but I remember it was embarassing for me to sing in our winter concert in 4th grade....and that was with a lot of people. I could never sing solo!
You must of had a good voice to be able to sing a solo!
