Wonder what everyone's talking about :\

Well try reading up to get a grasp on the conversation. It honestly ain't that difficult.

And while you're at it, it may be best to check out the rules for this section.

That's earlier than here in New Zealand. Here it's only when you're 16 that you can drop out of school and go get a job or something elsewhere with only high school education.

I know of a few people in my year dropping out, which I don't really see much point to it though I'm afraid.

eh, it's not worth dropping out before year 10 anyway, so it's not as if many people do it.

Well, if you know what you wanna do, and you can do it without finishing year 12, then why not start as soon as possible? Particularly for jobs like a trade in which there is a shortage of those working in these industries. If you're not gonna do something productive with year 11 and 12, then there's no point to it.

They're in the same breeding group. It has no hidden sexual meaning. Any further questions on the subject should be directed to the Breeding Corner.

Furthermore, changing the topic suddenly in the DCC is prohibited. Refrain from doing so in the future.
I know they are in the same breeding group. Well, I will not continue this talk. ;P

I wouldn't think so. New Zealand Year 9 is the equivalent of Australian Year 10 and from what I can tell, you don't really get taught enough if you want higher hopes for achievement anywhere and I've just finished Year 11 now. But Australia does have a more complex and difficult curriculum than here and I suppose you guys get taught a bit more at the same age level than we do here?

That's logical I guess. But not everyone will get hired instantly and the lack of work experience or knowledge could see them underdone and discarded in preference of someone older.

I was told that if someone older applied for the same job as you and obviously had the same qualifications, they would have a higher chance of getting the job. And to add to that, even though it's not really part of the topic XD the younger the employee is, the less that they would get payed.

I'm not really sure if someone older would have a higher chance of getting the job than you if they didn't have as many or the necessary qualifications.

I would choose the younger person if I was hiring.

Younger people have longer time to improve at the job they will be doing and learn more.

I wouldn't be sure to or not. Mainly because the younger person would tend to move on to other jobs quicker, other than the middle aged person. It would also depend on whether the younger person is single, married or has a child(ren) etc. If they are married etc, they would tend to stay longer to support the family.

On the other hand, the older person would most likely have a family and would stay on the job a lot longer and maybe wouldn't even leave it, unless of coarse that person was retiring or got sacked or something.

And yes, the younger person would learn more. But that may mean lots of mistakes at the start of the job. Maybe the younger person would be more enthusiastic, you'd never know.

I don't think it's classed as ageism to me. :P

I'm feeling rather crappy atm...

I'm so flustered by a lot of things in my life, despite the fact that I don't have school to burden me.

I'm trying to decide whether it's worth it or not to stick a controversial plot point in my comic that's in the works (writing stage, art stage within the next 10 yrs, lulz)...On one hand, I really want it in there, but on the other, all these watchdog groups are gonna jump on me.

One of my teachers that I emailed is kind of an arrogant prick, and thus he seems kind of insensitive to the fact that I'm not at home doing his work. He's really kind of an idiot, too, considering this may be his first year and he types like he's in a chatroom. He's easily taken advantage of, which makes for great fun in the classroom messing with him. It must suck to be him.

But I love my teachers, so I'm facing a really horrible thing. See, I have a severe mental illness. I can't go to school right now because my doctor won't let me. But I love the atmosphere around the adults, they make me feel so happy.

OTZ Everything seems so bleak.

I guess you could say I've grown impatient with my situation and I want to be with adults and mingle in their world. :I

That would depend on the age gap I'd hope. But the older person would be deemed slightly more mature than their younger counterpart.

It'd depend on the job that they're allocated to. You don't always find enthusiastic
(why does that spelling look so weird?) people at every job.

And the possiblity of mistakes could drag a person's chance of success in the job down. Older could also mean more experience and that would certainly see them ahead if they have had previous jobs with a decent CV record.

Ro-ohs, I can appreciate that you're going through a troubling time at the moment where you've reached a crossroads of sorts - most, if not all members here will experience the same thoughts at some point during their life.

But I must remind you that suddenly changing the topic is nor permitted. Just letting you know that for future reference ^^

O sh-

I had no idea. Ops. Forgive me.

That would be another reason for me to higher an older person, more job experience in the same area as the job. The younger person wouldn't have job experience or maybe just little job experience.

An older person may have commitments to a family and may have to leave alot to pick children up from school if they were sick or something.

Personally i would pick the younger person, but i guess that is I'm a young person. It would be a bit difficult to fit it if you were the oldest (by a long way 30+ years) trying to fit in with a load of young people.

I might have a mixture.

Young people are quite unreliable at jobs, the ones in my mother's shop are always "ill" but they arent.

Yeah, a mixture would be good. I worked at this Cafe once and the rest of the workers were all adults and would even talk to me. It was pretty horrid.

I was apparently unrealibe, the manager went and told all the other workers it took me 10 minutes to wash a plate and make jokes after i left

Thats not nice.

No offence but shouldn't they just of fired you?

Probably, but instead it got to the end of the summer and they just didn't re-hire me the next year.

Even though the manager promised my mum they would.

Nothing, She couldn't really. But she did want to go down to the Cafe and shout at the Manager but I told her not too.
