You forgot Argentina, they seem to have been favored here as well here given their opponents in Group F are quite low-ranked (Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria), one of which is making its first-ever WC appearance. But yeah, definitely agree that France and Russia got easy draws.
These matchups are a sign they are favoring certain countries to pass, while making others look certain to fail. I noticed a pattern with Australia's group matches at their last two World Cups (2006 and 2010) where they won against one team in the group, lost to another (in both cases with the loss it was against their powerhouse opponent) and drew with the third. I'd not be surprised if the pattern is broken this time around given how tough Spain and the Netherlands are.
