I'm a big fan and practitioner of comedy at times i go a little to dark .... that's besides the point
my question is how far is to far when it comes to dark humor, and have you ever offended anyone with dark comedy?

Dark humor is only good when handled tastefully. If it's something like blatant racism/sexism, then no, it's not good, and it never will be. It has to be kind of, how should I put this, clouded. It can't be direct, because that's just hateful. It's hard to do dark humor in a tasteful way, honestly, so people should leave it to the professional comedians. Otherwise it's just rude.

Generally I don't even attempt at dark humor because what I personally find funny, others may, or even probably find offensive.

That being said, do I like dark humor? If it's done right I do get some "schadenfreude-esque" feelings. Otherwise it's just an unfunny garbage that means nothing but offense to some people.

    Examples of Good Dark Humor:
"A raccoon tangled with a 23,000 volt line today. The results blacked out 1400 homes and, of course, one raccoon."
    - Steel City News

"Based on what you know about him in history books, what do you think Abraham Lincoln would be doing if he were alive today?

    1. Writing his memoirs of the Civil War.
    2. Advising the President.
    3. Desperately clawing at the inside of his coffin."
    - David Letterman

"The word good has many meanings. For example, if a man were to shoot his grandmother at a range of five hundred yards, I should call him a good shot, but not necessarily a good man. . ."
    - Chesterton

    Example of Bad Dark Humor:
    Lewis Black.

It just depends on the type of Dark Humor you're using. technically it's called Black Humor
Personally I love it, and my dad and I often joke saying things such as "Dead people are cool, no really."

I really enjoy dark humour. It catches people off guard and is highly effective at breaking the ice.

Also "Lewis is black" doesn't classify as a joke, at best it's a fact.

I love black/dark humor. And somehow I havent yet offended anyone...which is a miracle considering what type of jokes me and my friends tell sometimes. Although they are somewhat hilarious...

    lol Andy

But as for me, I am one of the more humor-influenced members here, and I don't think my sense of humor is too "dark" at all. I'm more of the person who enjoys happier laughs. I don't discriminate people here, so yeah my humor is not really dark, I'm often too bright to do that.

I don't really do dark humour but my humour tends to be very politically incorrect. You should hear me around my blind friends. I don't really care though since they think it's funny, so it's just a bunch of PC uptights who get upset anyhow.

    3. Desperately clawing at the inside of his coffin
    I was eating when I seen this and I almost choked because I started laughing. X}

I think this type of humor is amusing, obviously. My jokes tend to lean toward offensive rather than "dark", though.

My sense of humor is more dry and deadpan.

...Except I usually laugh at most of my jokes, so maybe they're not so deadpan after all.

"They say there's safety in numbers. . . Tell that to six million jews."

    I couldn't resist, DON'T JUDGE ME. . .!

you can never go to far with dark humor

I absolutely 100% disagree with this. There is a fine line between what is funny and acceptable to what's cruel and invasive.

If I were to make a humorous reference to the event that killed one of your close friends or family, that would be too far. I've upset you by making your friend's death look like a game.

I never pass on breaking a race joke, so you could say I'm into dark humor. ;)

...no, seriously. I never pass on cracking a race joke. They're my favorites.

OMG I'M DYING AT MY JOKE RIGHT NOW YOU GUYS!!!! I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO TELL YOU HOW FUNNY I THINK I AM!!!!!!!!!

I do dark humor, because I believe that there is no boundaries when it comes to comedy considering different people have different taste. But I do believe that comedy should be done in good taste and not just for the sake of getting attention

WTF that was hilarious. Just because my text isn't capitalised doesn't mean I'm not rolling in a puddle of my own urine.
    Dom, why so punny?
