    For those of you who haven't heard yet, the first episode of Digimon Xros Wars has recently aired in Japan and is now floating around the interwebs in raw format. It should be a little while until there's a fansub, I'm guessing.

    Though I can't say anything for the script (don't speak Japanese), I was generally amused by what I saw. Yes, they're clearly going the evolution-by-combining route right from the get go, which I don't exactly love, but I got used to the human-to-digimon stuff in Frontier quickly enough so I'll give it a chance. One thing that surprised me was how well polished and sometimes epic the visuals were. The HD broadcast helps, and the computer generated image work meshes better than in any previous Digimon series.

    It took me a few minutes to think of what the new style reminded me of, but then it hit me: Gurren Lagann. The hyper shininess, the sheer gusto, it's all there. Even the general set-up is making me think of GL a bit. If Tamers was Evangelion with Mons, I think Xros Wars may well prove to be Gurren Lagann with Mons.

    In short, this first episode makes me optimistic, and I think we've got the makings of a fun series here.
     
    I've only seen the first two minutes and the opening, but so far I'm not disappointed. I'm currently waiting for subs before watching all of it. But I have heard the Gurren Lagaan, which I've never seen, comparisons before.

    I think I like the fact that they're children again, which was my main reason why Savers never appealed to me.

    My grammar is so wonky right now.
     
    I knew the Digimon season 6 anime was premiering in July (but didn't recall the exact date), and I just decided to go look up info on it. Didn't realize that the premiere was today! :) w00t! I hope this series turns out to be awesome... The new opening sounds great as well! Hopefully, the dub theme will match or surpass it in greatness! :D Go Digimon!!!! :cer_boogie:

    I just don't want to ruin my experience with too many spoilers (like I'm partially doing with the BW Pokemon leaks...)
     
    Hmm. This feels a bit like a Frontier sequel or spin off to me. While that doesn't necessarily cost it any points in my opinion, this immediately tells me that they fell way short of topping tamers, even though Tamers is where Frontier spun off of. (Remember the Biomerge Digievoutions?, Frontier took those a step further and sadly cut out important characters who make Digimon tick as a series;o;*coughpartnercoughdigimoncough*)

    Still, this is a chance they have of improving upon the Frontier concept now. Honestly I was hoping for a Tamers sequel, or an "Adventure 3"...but this doesn't seem to be the case. x3

    I may sit this season out entirely and wait for the dub, like I did with Savers/Data Squad. It doesn't seem compelling yet...but perhaps once it comes out and makes it to fansub it may prove itself to be good. If it is good, my fellow Digi-fans will let me know. :3
