Not going to pretend to be some kind of know all but it is a bit disappointing when people genuinely don't care about what is going on in the world outside of their own little bubble. Almost as bad as people that ram their recycled opinions down your throat at every opportunity they get.

I don't see a reason to pick a side on a polarizing issue that has nothing to do with me. I know that there are only losers and not much else, and neither of those losers are the "bad guys" (if it were, it wouldn't be so polarizing). In that sense, I can see reason in not caring other than it being plain selfishness.

And I don't think it's as bad as pushing opinions on people because one thing is intrusive and the other is...nothing. And there's nothing I hate more than when people complain about something and don't do anything to try to help to remedy it. Having an opinion on its own doesn't do that.

@Pokey - Well that's what I'm saying. I don't see why not caring at all would be any worse than just knowing if you're not going to do anything to seek change. Otherwise, it's just the same as pleading ignorance, because you're not helping anybody.

I mean, I can understand if it's a moral value, but in that case I'd have to wonder if that moral is even selfish or not. It's a "what's worse, being aware and not changing or blissful ignorance" type deal.

Oh, sorry. Didn't read carefully enough.

Most of all, I think having a proper understanding of what's going on in the world is really important. Building an opinion based on that is good as well, though it's practically not any different from not having one, if it's a situation you don't have much control over.

Then again, with the power of information and propaganda over social networks, it could be argued that everyone HAS that control these days.

I suppose whatever works for you. Whilst I am never going to change anything out there I at least like to know why phosphorus shells are falling on innocent civilians.

That's a fair statement.

I'm clearly not thinking clearly enough at the moment, because I'm confusing whom is thinking what exactly, and I'm too lazy to read back for further inspection.

Doesn't help that most of my knowledge on this particular situation is a couple of years old and mostly given to me by sources which are biased to one side.

''Am I the only one who doesn't give a flying whazoo about the middle east?''
''Nope, same here. I pretty much just ignore it.''

The comments which started this strand of conversation.
