I have a sort of psychological aversion to dubs by now. A relic of the old Sub vs. Dub wars of the 2000's heh.

I have a thing for writing in dubs. I love to see how they bring over lines, adapt phrases and jokes, use slang and figures of speech, and take liberties (regardless of whether I've seen the original). Another reason we already discussed, the whole focus thing. Among others.

But yeah. With subs its pretty much the same deal, though dubs have a much more varied, bizarre, hilarious, and interesting history of progression and efforts to make localization work. Subs generally don't for the sake of integrity and shielding backlash, though when they're too "straight-from-Japanese" people get PO'd, too.

I watched a few of the early episodes of DBZ (Mainly the Raditz fight) with english dub, but with Japanese subtitles

It was so different I thought I was watching one anime and reading another
Yeah. Though I ultimately prefer the English dub, it's just more fun and they have more fun with the script (though it did lead to some inaccuracies, both in the Funi and the Ocean dubs). The uncut version is redubbed and still great, though closer to the Japanese. And Kai is Kai.

Dragon Ball was the same way, and its dub was incredibly well done and just plain hilarious (intentionally so). It's one of my favorite dubs.

On that note, watched Japanese Kai, recently. It has the most boring narrator on the planet.

Hey, watch the almost language, mister. There are children present, and the last thing I would want to do is offend Laptrap.

Also, regarding to last topic, you know something that I love to hate and hate to love in older dubs? Name pronunciation. Sukoora in Cardcaptors, Tomo in Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal, Airy in Those Who Hunt Elves.

Good stuff all around.
