In Alpha Sapphire, if you go to Lilycove before Mt. Pyre, an Aqua Grunt makes a reference to 101 Dalmatians as well as a reference to Hot Skitty on Wailord Action

Not sure about that, long running shounen often have subpar adaptations. Content wise it isn't like HxH is particularly special.
The first arc is paced so much better in the newer version, there mist be at least a 10 episode difference.
