None of us are deserving of anything. This thought comes from the idea that we are all born inherently wicked and deeply flawed (<-- there's a whole topic right there). I'm no better than the one person in prison. And neither is anybody else in this world. To say we are deserving of anything at all speaks of our hubris. We're all human beings, not some holy, flawless deity. However, second chances can be earned, or on some levels, depending on the situation, it can be simply given as a gift. If you are able to examine just how flawed you are, like truly, from your own motivations, from your own thoughts, and from your own wrong doings in the past, then I think you are more willing to give someone else another chance, you are more willing to forgive, show mercy, be gracious, be kind.
