I was playing Emerald, and I breezed through the Elite 4... maybe a bit of trouble with Salamence, but I came out of it all pretty good, and I was all high on myself... then I got to Wallace, and the guy totally tanked me! I have a pretty good team, with a strong Electric and a strong Grass type, and Wallace just walked right over me. It was actually so pitiful that it was funny.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is as amazed as I am at just how powerful a single-type team can be. I was always under the impression that a multi-type team (like your Rival in the original games) was the strongest kind of team you could have, but wow... Wallace is by far the most powerful Champion out of all the Pokemon games.

Yeah, I had the same embarrassing kind of defeat when I battled Wallace. x_X I thought I had quite a good team myself until I battled him, bleh. I'm not exactly amazed as such, more like wanting to shake my fist at that single-type team than to be amazed by it. xP

Not to be rude, but beating Wallace shouldn't be difficult at all. Wailord typically starts off with Rain Dance, so you should be packing Thunder to take advantage of that. If you remember, RD makes Thunder's accuracy 100%. Personally, I start out with Gardevoir and Calm Mind that first move and then abuse Thunderbolt. I do this because Tentacruel (iirc) is the next Poke that comes out. A STAB & CM Psychic makes Tentacruel cry. Ludicolo should be next. You switch out to a flier like Swellow or Crobat (Ludicolo is weak to Flying and Poison), or if you have Gardevoir like me you use Hypnosis. Wallace is too retarded to switch out, so you can CM up a few times and then sweep it without any problem with Psychic. The next Poke you face should be Milotic. Thunder here will eventually take it out. It also likes to use Toxic, which is why I use Lum Berry on my Gardevoir in the Weak5. With Gardevoir's Synchronize Ability, Milotic gets poisoned too, and Lum Berry heals Gardevoir. Beating Milotic is quite easy. Just damage it enough to where you know it will heal/Recover and then CM. A multiple CM'ed Thundebolts do the trick for me. The fifth Poke should be Gyarados, that happens to 4x weak to Electric attacks. Bzzzzzzzzzt. Fried Sea Serpent in one hit. Last but not least is Whiscash. Switching to a Grass move Poke = gg. Personally, my Gardevoir has CM'ed up enough to take on anything and makes short work of it.

That is one of many ways to beat Wallace.

Wallace was always easy for me because I always had an Manetric with me all the time and what Shane said was true

I didn't find him too difficult...I think challenging is a better word for my showdown with him.

I didn't have any problems because I was also using a CM + Thunderbolt Gardevoir and it wiped the floor with Wailord and Tentacruel. On Ludicolo I only had Salamence and Milotic left so I went ahead and took it out with Salamence. Milotic was the challenge. I called out my Milotic and they went into a Toxic battle. (They pretty much had the same moveset!) Except I used a chesto berry to get rid his Toxic while he kept using Full Restores when his health got too low. Eventually he ran out and the toxic ended up klling Wallace's Milotic. I used Salamence against Gyrados and it was funny because I kept using Headbutt but Gyrados kept flinching. So I beat him using headbutt...XD

Heh... I had fun battling Wallace. It was tough because of my team, though- I had decided that in order to make the game a challenge, I was not allowed to rebattle trainers or run through tall grass for the sole purpose of earning experience points. The only exception I could make for this rule is if I was tracking down a particular Pokemon, such as Absol. It made everything harder, but I still had fun. CMed Gardevoir wiped the floor with the first two (Okay, so I had to use a hyper potion once. Big whoop.), and then he switched in Ludicolo. I had only CMed once, and Gardevoir doesn't know hypnosis, so I switched in Rayquaza. I then proceeded to pwn Ludicolo and do a bit of damage to Milotic before getting RQ knocked out with that annoying Ice Beam. So I switched in my Absol and got a lucky shot in with slash before getting knocked out. Gardevoir switches back in and delivers the finishing blow. Gyarados gets crispy fried. Wiscash appears. My Sceptile, who I have been saving for this moment, also appears. Critical Hit with Leaf Blade. Wiscash becomes a catfish fillet. VICTORY DANCE!!!

Yeah, I can beat Wallace using a team consisting of level 37 to 44 Pokemon and one uber who is good for one knockout before getting pwned by Ice Beam. Beat that!

Wailord has yet to start out with Rain Dance. Come to think of it, none of his Pokemon have used Rain Dance when I battles him. I have an Alakazam with a tanked Special Attack, but also a very very weak Defence. I was surprised that he didn't take out Tentacruel with one move... but he didn't.

My problem is that Wallace can cover his two weaknesses: Electric with Earthquake, and Grass with Ice Beam. My Magneton is probably my toughest Pokemon, got me through most of the Elite 4 (and took out that ice gal by himself). Gyradados uses Earthquake against my Magneton, and tkes it out with one hit. Milotic, amazingly enough, I didn't have a problem with.

It could also be I went after him with my highest Pokemon (Megneton) being level 45. LOL, but I caught Rayquaza last night to sort of help me out. So perhaps a bit more training is due.

    But thanks for the advice!

Wallace is always a pushover. My Sceptile OKO'd Wailord, Ludicolo, Wiscash, and Milotic with Leaf Blade. Tentacurel got pwnd by Gardivor with Psychic, without Calm mind, and Gyrados gets pwnd by Gardivor with Thunderbolt, and volia, long credits.

Pretty much the main purpose of this thread was to discuss which is more beneficial, or powerful:

a.) A multi-type team, like most people go with.

    or

b.) A single type team, like Wallace or any of the Gym Leaders/Elite 4.

I would normally say a multi-type team, but I don't know. Single type teams can be pretty darn tough. And if you carry only one kind of Pokemon that is strong against it, and he gets taken out, then you're almost screwed. However, with facing a multi-type team, the chances are very likely that you have a pokemon to take out each of the others.

So I would say, if thought out well with move sets, etc, a single-type team is more powerful than a multi.

    I agree with you, Graceofbaal.
That's why I wish that one of the games would give you the option of being a Gym Leader/ Elite Four member
There's just so many possibilities of coolness with a one-type team...

    Insert random filler here.

Well i developed my own strategy which could help conquer this gym with ease, i have two theories for both versions of the game as you will se why now.

This Gym is extremely hard if you are playing Ruby, but easy if you are playing Sapphire
First, if you're playing Sapphire. Catch Kyogre right away and it must have these moves: Surf, Thunder, Icebeam, and Calm mind.
When Kyrogre is sent out it will automatically rain because of its drizzle ability therefore not having to waste a turn using rain dance. Then, use Calm Mind three times and use Thunder to the rest of the Gym battle. Thunder will never miss because it is raining and it is best move for Kyogre.

Finally, strategy for Ruby. You need Lanturn, with Shock wave and Thunder bolt.
I suggest you should use Male one because of Milotic, because of it's attract move.
You can use Thunder Bolt until you win the Badge or there is another way to defeat this Gym.

he's not too difficult but by far, he's the hardest trainer to beat but not really difficult. I don't even save before I battle him but of course I need merchandise.

Actually, it depends on your Pokemon. He was easy in R/S for me because I got a good team
