Doubles, triples and rotationals in Unova!

So something new that these games had was wild double battles WITHOUT having to have an NPC with you. Oh the freedom of using your OWN Pokemon! What was your reaction to this feature? Did it make it easier for you to train? Or harder? Did you not care about them?

On the other hand, would've you liked wild triple battles or wild rotational battles more? Do you think they could've been a better way to introduce the new features?

And talking of triples and rotationals, which was your favourite of the two? Do you think they should've been introduced one by one (like one in BW, another in B2W2?) And did you have enough battles of each? Would've you liked to have had more to fully get into the new futures? Do you think they put enough effort into making them seem like a fun new way to battle?

I liked the addition of these new battle methods. First, for wild double battles they were a bit strategic, since you could get thrown into a fight with two wild foes that were often rather high leveled they can mess with you if one of them was left unattended. However, it was annoying that you always had to defeat one before you could catch the other AND you have to throw the ball and take up your entire turn if you wanted to try. Not THE greatest way to train your Pokémon (since it splits EXP between them), but being 2-on-2 was original.

As for Triple and Rotation Battles, they often require more strategy than usual. Triple Battles can have you faced with tough opponents, so it can get dirty when you're faced with them, especially if your Pokémon are slow. Rotation Battles are also enjoyable to me as you can get caught using a move that ends up not being very effective against what the foe brings in. I prefer Triple Battles more, since I really like being able to have all three Pokémon attack at once. xD (A Battle Girl in Reversal Mountain in the sequels says that very line, I think, haha.) Black put more emphasis on Rotation Battles while White put more emphasis on Triple Battles, so I think they did that implementation well. It was disappointing that the Battle Subway didn't have these two battle styles, so I was glad that they made an appearance in the Battle Maison in XY.

That's my take on the matter, I do like these battle styles since they make trainer battles more entertaining when they show up.

The triple and rotation battles are one of the most interesting new features introduced in 5th Gen, because like what Stargazer said it makes you think more strategically like how rotation can make your moves get resisted by what gets brought in while triples have moves unable to target the far end but some moves have the exception, especially Flying-types.

They can be a nightmare for Nuzlockes though if you have no prior knowledge, especially given these trainers can have really tough Pokemon.

I really liked how they improved upon the Double Battles, it helped give me a chance to train up the weaker members of my party by pairing them up with some of the strongest to reduce their chances of fainting :)

Between the other two, I DEFINITELY prefer Rotational over Triple Battles, the latter kind of annoyed me with not being able to attack Pokémon on the right with my Pokémon that was on the left and vice versa, especially cause more times than not that was where my type advantage was lol :)

Rotational were so much fun though, especially cause I got quite good at predicting how the opponent was gonna attack and switching up my own Pokémon accordingly :) I would've liked to see more Rotational Battles, maybe even have had the Striaton Gym be a Rotational Battle with Cilan, Chili and Cress as a way of introducing the player to them, that would've been great :)

I liked the two battle styles, I just wish that there were more of them! We barely got any exposure to the two types and I really liked them a lot. I liked them both because Triple battles were fun all out brawls with some mechanics (ex. Pokemon can't hit the opponent on the opposite side) and Rotation Battles were a bit of a challenge because you had to think about what Pokemon your opponent would rotate to next. I remember out-predicting an NPC one time and completely getting my time wiped out! It was kinda annoying, but also fun because I wasn't losing to hax or anything. I wish they had included more of those battles, or at least rematches!
